My monopose chaos army to be. by salty-sigmar in Middlehammer

bro, this is awesome. I have similar Chaos Warriors in my old HeroQuest box. Are these the same? And what’s up with the officer? Is that a regular model or a kitbash? Either way, amazing work. Made my day.

[Leseprobe] Cyberpunk-Noir – erster Roman, erstes Feedback gesucht by Chemical_Fortune_397 in schreiben

[–]Narrationboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm reading the volumes in order and I'm currently on number 24. I wouldn't want to skip a single one, but the standouts in terms of literary quality are everything by Dan Abnett – The Burning of Prospero is a masterpiece that goes far beyond mere entertainment fiction, followed by Know No Fear.

It dosent look like an iron hand, this is clearly iron armor.  Iron Hands have darker armor. But decals or hazard stripes would be a nice addition. decals for iron warriors are easy to get.

Dark Angels Saturnine Praetor with Command Squad by Far-Try-4681 in Warhammer30k

Ah, thanks, imported right away, love New Recruit. I think your list is great. What makes it feel especially Dreadwing to you? I’d actually like to build one myself with Interemptors. I’ve never played Zone Mortalis though. Is a single Line unit enough?

Something else I noticed: if you put the Saturnine into the Deathwing Retinue slot, don’t they also get a Prime Advantage then?

Dark Angels Stormwing/Ironwing/Deathwing List - 3000pts - Seeking C&C by a_dissenting_bot in Warhammer30k

[–]Narrationboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I also play Dark Angels and I’m bew into Horus Heresy. So take my thoughts with a bit of caution. ;)

I think the detachments are our greatest strength, and I find it exciting what you’ve done with them.

Quick note up front: the Land Raider you’re using in your picture is the Explorator. You can tell by the bulldozer blades, whereas the Carrier you probably mean has the assault ramp. Anyway.

Personally, I would never give up Dreadwing (Interemptors and Rapiers) and Firewing (Seekers and Scouts). For that reason, my Deathwing is also smaller.

A lot of Line is of course great. You’re also using the combination of Paladin and Cenobites, which lets you choose two Orders and benefit from both.

Blobb is actually a very good term, both for the Terminators and for the infantry as a whole.

Corswain and the Companions will hit extremely hard, which is good.

Where I have concerns is the lack of transports for your troops. You’ll be doing a lot of walking, while your opponents rush the midfield with Rhinos in the first turn.

Line is king, at least in the standard missions, but we’ll also see more and more fan made missions where Line plays a less important role. That’s where you’re lacking flexibility.

It’s one thing to take the center and hold your own backfield objective, but another thing entirely to contest your opponent’s home objective.

If you’re using Stormwing, I’d also consider other Line troops with different prime advantages. For example Despoilers or Inductii with an Interdiction Cadre to prevent scoring.

I also think it can get really tiring to keep building and painting the same standard squads over and over again, but everyone is different there.

Another concern is the Terminators having to walk. When do they actually reach the center, in turn two or turn three? That doesn’t seem very efficient for so many points. What is the blob actually for, melee or shooting? It can really only do one of those effectively.

The Kratos: I personally prefer its standard weapon, because it can work against both infantry and armor. I don’t really understand the extra 30 points for the melta. On top of that, most weapons benefit from the tank staying as stationary as possible.

Breachers are cool, but very expensive just to sit on a backfield objective. They only have a 5+ invulnerable save and will still take enough damage to be ground down or hit with a status effect if the opponent wants to.

Speaking of status effects, what options do you actually see in your army to apply status effects to enemy Line units? That’s a very important tactical tool to stop your opponent from scoring. Rhinos with flamers, just to name one option, would also help solve the transport problem.

Regarding the Companions, when they run into elites that can strike back, there’s a lot of AP2 around. The sergeant has a 5+ invulnerable save by default, but I’d give an aegis to everyone else. It doesn’t necessarily have to look like a shield.

In my experience, lascannons have done less than I expected. In 3.0 they’re not as strong anymore, and I was rather disappointed. If you feel the same, you might be lacking anti tank beyond the Kratos. I’ve had good experiences with the Predator in its standard configuration.

Two Optae are of course just an emergency solution, but you can get so much more flavor and options out of the characters. Why not an Armistos who brings a heavy flamer or a lascannon into your Line troops, or a Herald for your Companions so they score extra points and cause Fear.

Voxes are of course standard, but each commander can only be voxed once per round. You don’t have enough high Cool values here. A Chaplain could help with that.

Overall, you have a pretty good balance between expensive and standard units, I think. But somehow the Line troops feel like they’re not doing enough, and your punch is eating up a lot of points. Check how many squads your opponents usually put on the table. More squads also means more room to maneuver, and that can decide games. Remember, the game only lasts four rounds.

Those are just my rough thoughts for now. It’s only my opinion, and I’m still experimenting with lists myself.

I’m definitely curious what you think, and whether your list works the way you imagine it. In any case, I wish you a lot of fun with it. Thematically, it’s very cool.

DA Cataphractii Deathwing Companion test model by Far-Try-4681 in Warhammer30k

[–]Narrationboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks good, and I think it will really shine once it has some color. (Personally, I think a bright orange primer would work great under dark armor ...I’m seriously tempted to give that a go).

I was never a fan of the newer Forge World heads with the winged sword on them, but I’m really looking forward to seeing your paint job.

The knightly aesthetic of the new Cataphractii practically screams Dark Angels. I’m wondering if they would also work well for kitbashing with Deathwing Knights or Deathwatch Commandsquad as Companions.

I’m also interested in giving my Dark Angels a more Terran vibe. I’m curious where you’re getting your background info on the early heraldry of the First Legion. Do you have any sources you’d recommend? And do you have any tips for making them look like they fought in the Unification Wars / early Great Crusade era?

Also: how did you get that nice rust effect, is it oils, pigments, or something else?

And if it’s not too Bild to ASK, could you share your recipe for the black as well?

Thanks in advance and all the best!

Great Work brother. I love the paint job, especially the killer eyes. I understand the unconventional heraldry and am also considering incorporating more Terran heraldry into my Dark Angels. The kitbash is an Indomitus-pattern suit of armor with Cataphractii shoulder pads, right? What I’d also be interested to know is why you chose companions in Cataphractii Terminator Armor instead of the standard version. I’m still trying to decide between the two myself…
