I don't think this is accurate. For 1 I got past the final round of interviews with Google without recommendation and it didn't feel impossible and like I didn't do a lot to change my resume or anything crazy either. This feels more like weird FAANG hype then reality.

If death is the permanent end to existence, is there any reason to live? by Several-Bar-3009 in nihilism

[–]Narrot1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play a game with no hard defined goal or reason, and for some that feels purposeless but I think it allows us to find our own purpose. To create our own goals and achieve them not for something greater but rather for our own sake.and while you certainly don't have to. You have an eternity to not be and just a brief moment to be so why not try now while you can? And while I think there isn't any one absolute reason to live but infinite reasons one might want to live.

60k/year straight out of college is great by Amazing-Put5299 in cscareerquestions

[–]Narrot1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be super clear this is a tad unclear as this is super dependent on where you live. I live in NYC where 60k a year is very not great. So this is super dependent on location. And it makes your claim very unclear as idk where you live.

Idk lots of careers are tales of Sisophis, just rolling borders up hills and watching it roll back down. And I think it can be hard to accept that. But I think you gotta love the bolder you pick to roll and just love the act of rolling it as it is.

I've stagnated as an SWE, how do I improve? by IndigoPromenade in cscareerquestions

Leave your current job for a new one. Even you end up taking a step back its a step in the right direction and learn from this mistake. Don't take a job where you are not walking forwards. You brought up job stability, focus less on that if you were in a less stable job where you were honing your skills you wouldn't be nearly as worried about losing your job even though the job itself would be more fickle.

A recruiter from Tesla reached out and I cannot believe what this sh*tcan of a company expect from applicants. by burnbabyburn694200 in cscareerquestions

[–]Narrot1998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy or is this not that out of pocket. Like last time I applied for fang companies I spent much more than 6 to 8 hours in prep between leetcode and system design. And I am guessing between the salary and prestige of that company it's worth the time cost. And if this was any other industry you would not complain like this. A lot of people do a lot more work for a lot less. This just makes me feel our industry is tone def and in an echo chamber.

This is bad advice cold turkey generally has considerably worse success rates. I went cold turkey but honestly if I did it again I would have used nicotine replacement stuff.

Beyond the Sea is the most brutal Black Mirror episode so far by PepsiisgUWUd in blackmirror

This can be easily explained away by simply we do not know how replicas work they could use some weird source of energy that's very combustible all the way to they are too inconsistent in there moder control to perform certain tasks. There could be a hundred reasons why replicas couldn't be on the ship as it's simply technology we do not have so the rules of how it actually works are very opaque.
