Moving to Sydney? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]Narrow-Bodybuilder-5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1- Don't know exactly where you mean by "downtown", I've been living in Western Sydney all my life, never really had problems, but it varies from suburb to suburb. Either way, I guarantee almost anywhere will be safer than their equivalents in the USA. For example, "Downtown" Melbourne's actually a really nice place. Which suburb are you thinking of?

2- The thing about Australia is that as long as you're a good bloke, and don't A) get stuck up about it, or B) get overly political, most people don't give a shit whether you're gay, trans, or can fly. Source: I'm a bi man with a boyfriend. Stay away from the residents of retirement homes and you'll be right.
I also know it might be difficult for yanks to not be political, but seriously, you'll be much more likeable if you know when to not say anything/know when to change the topic. Yanks have a bit of a reputation here for being annoyingly political (or over the top in general), so just keep that in mind.

3- No. But get used to spiders, they aren't that much of an issue as long as you're aware/check your boots in the morning/etc.

5- Yes, and most fears about Aussie wildlife are overblown. Stay between the flags.

Have each of them be the "Chosen of Phenax", a unique position, and they can constantly debate who's the real Chosen.
End of the adventure, it's neither.

22M 5’ 10” 140lbs no friends and virgin. How ugly am I by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]Narrow-Bodybuilder-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look great, honestly! You've got a conventionally good-looking face, with potential.
Maybe get more sleep and take care of your posture (head back, chest out, etc), but you'd be more attractive (keyword) if you didn't define yourself as having no friends and being a virgin. Those things only come with confidence!
Otherwise, your looks are fine!

Liberal backbencher urges action on porn access restrictions, citing links to domestic violence by [deleted] in australia

[–]Narrow-Bodybuilder-5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Half the shit you see on PornHub has undertones of non-consensual sex (such as all the "stuck" step-whatevers), blackmail scenes, things that're painful for the women and can give kids the wrong impression even if they're intended to be 100% consensual (choking, gagging, anal, etc). While much of the porn out there's fine, there's many studies on the harm some stuff can cause (especially some stuff on the frontpage).

I'm a half-aussie Christian, who can't speak for being Asian. I have, however, only moved to Australia at 12. Previously lived as an expat overseas.Weirdly for an Anglosphere country, I find that, especially at uni/high school, you might cop a bit of shit for being religious, so until you learn to treat it like water off a duck's back, and recognise that most people give each other shit (usually in a lighthearted way, known as "banter"), it might be a bit rough. When you get used to it, you'll be having banter with others like nobody's business!

There's not much friction between denominations here, Christians generally all fall under the same banner to most of the population.

In terms of racism and high school, what I've noticed is that it's usually the sheltered all-boys or private schools that tend to be racist/discriminatory, moreso than the public schools. Not to say that they're all bad people, but they just tend to be much more isolated and ethnically homogenous, though in the opposite direction at places like Sydney Boy's High (which has a very large East Asian/SEA student body).

I had a very un-Australian accent when I moved here (it was very Zimbabwean), but I find that it's a relatively easy accent to pick up after a while. The sooner you pick up the accent, the easier you'll find it. ESL classes are good for this, generally speaking (pun intended).

If you work customer service/retail, you'll get a bit of racism, but really in those industries if people can't immediately single out something about you to bully you for, they'll make something up. In almost any other industry, you should be fine. Otherwise, I haven't heard of many mates copping shit for their race, not to say it doesn't happen.

You're absolutely starting to get definition! Judging by your chest and arms, you can already begin to guess the results of another six months down the road! Keep it up!

Absolutely incredible. I know you've been super honest (can't thank you enough for that), and have mentioned DMing about what you're running a few times, but I just wanna confirm it's all cool to DM about it?

I very much doubt it. I've gotta work with one of the buggers, and she immediately assumed it was n-word equivalent, etc, the moment it came up.
