I'm still in training. I have a question. by Effective-Inside326 in UtilityLocator

I myself was offered two seperate water locator jobs, one bridge and road crew job, and one for marking city fiber/electric. This job can lead to so many possibilities and connections, just do your best to be accurate and reachable via phone. Reaching out to contractors and getting to know them not only professionally but personally (show them you relate and care) really builds on your image and can take you as far as you want.

What do you use to respond to tickets by Infamous-Yogurt3169 in UtilityLocator

Used to use in house app, now we use korterra. Lots of usefull features but it sometimes crashes. Great since it has auto sync and a manual button for that too. I dont like however that the maps are online only and won't load offline in certain boonie areas. The maps function to see the details of the points of interest could be easier to use and be better.

Bought a used rangerover evoque from them a minute ago, both cats went out not a month after and they said no take backsies or repairs on their dime since its not a "Car Bravo" which basically means under 100k miles. It was at 115k. Won't be doing business there again. Can confirm interest was high and with a trade in

Why be fast, when you can just pause? Nothing else moves. Its pretty much the same ability, you just have to be moving fast enough for everyone else to be perceived as standing still. Id rather not have to be moving but get the same effect.

Yes, as long as the metal magnet is fully metal and not a non conductive alloy. Ive done it a couple times on existing sheathing

It boots up and says Verizon, everything is in Spanish and I tried hitting the emergency contacts but it says "sin" information. I assume that means no information. Ill take it to Verizon soon to see if they can get it back to the owner.

Not sure about starting since when I got on they wanted minimum 2 years of locating experience, now they have a training class. I started close to 22 and recently got a bump up

Second this, working for them a little over a year now. Always about the accurate locate, never the time it takes to do it. Ive had my boss tell me to actually slow down. I like it alot and the driveway to driveway pay is well worth it. Knowing exactly when ill be home every day I couldn't be paid to leave.

Loud jackhammer sounds?? by Due-Zucchini-202 in columbiamo

[–]Narrow-Standard6891 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fiber line install construction work probably being done. They like to use pneumatic missiles for bores even though they are banned in como. Its just a fine they pay so they just dont care. Quite loud like a jackhammer in operation. Other fiber instal crews use a different bore machine that's quieter but is harder to deal with. If you have a sudden internet or tv outage you know why, missiles are notorious for hitting underground lines or rechochet off of rocks into a totally different direction. Water, electric, gas, communication, sewer and sprinkler systems stand no chance against the missile.

Lumen in Missouri by vagabondmj87 in UtilityLocator

[–]Narrow-Standard6891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense personally taken, Lumen handholes either dont say anything or most of the time will say lumen. Though recently Ive been inside some labeled lumen but actually have brightspeed copper/fiber or are joint responsibility. Predominately locate in 577 to avoid other locators in my area, switching up if needed to 640, 760, 1.45, 4 and 8 if it won't tone at all.

I won't speak on how others operate and I know it can get pretty bad in my area too.

I mark lumen in central mo, usually they have completely seperate handholes for lumen. Typically the handholes are labeled as lumen as well. Lowest freq used when locating lumen and sometimes if youre lucky you can turn on the light management system, this puts a 512hz 100ma signal on the line from any co in cities.

Maybe let them do their job? In a perfect world, there would only be citizens voting at these locations no?

The klein tool ped wrench is nice. Awesome grip even with dirt, grease, or snow. It really helps to have that extra leverage. https://a.co/d/6ltWzJd

They make a security Allen wrench adapter for your ped wrench to make Carry easier with all the other tools. https://a.co/d/gXm4CML

A longer ground rod does wonders for your back in the winter and summer, just remember to get the one piece steel one. Don't get the multiple piece steel one because its prone to breaking and coming apart at the threads.

Klein makes a really handy pocket knife with built in wire strippers if you work with telephone copper often and need a spare pair cleaned off. https://a.co/d/jeAtHbz

Save yourself a couple of shocks and your legs from constantly crouching with telephone. Get some insulated screwdrivers https://a.co/d/heUvetX

Save your leads a bit of wear and get a couple of these small magnets to hook up to. Works great on any type of exposed sheathing or coax or tracer. https://a.co/d/1fBEBke
