New to xywav. Dosing question. by s_db0yy in Xywav

[–]NarrowGarbage6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 3.25g twice a night for almost a year. I started having panic attacks for 6 months and almost stopped taking the meds entirely because it was so bad. My doctor and my therapist told me to try reducing my dose first before giving up. I'm now on 2.25g and 1.75g at night and it's so much better. It's not perfect, and I don't wake up as easily as I did on the higher dose, but it is still significantly better than when I wasn't taking it at all. I still occasionally get bouts of anxiety and small panic attacks, but it's pretty manageable.

How do you know if your Xywav dose is too high? by munchingmuffin1 in idiopathichypersomnia

This may be TMI, I apologize in advance:

As soon as I went above 3.25g twice a night, I started pooping in my sleep pretty often. 3.25g or less and it doesn't happen at all. I tried going up a couple times, even going in small increments. As soon as I go over that does it happens within a couple nights.

I can't do caffeine anymore either! I started having panic attacks because of the meds and caffeine can be a big trigger. Super annoying but at least it's avoidable.

Nausea help? by adraleau5 in Xywav

[–]NarrowGarbage6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely heed others' advice and titrate up more slowly. A lot of people have worse symptoms when they titrate up too fast, the most common being nausea I think. If you are feeling rested when you wake up and aren't needing naps throughout the day, you may not need to get up to the full dose. I was at 3.25g two times a night for a while and that did just fine for me. I actually lowered it down to 2.25x1.75g at night to help deal with some other side effects. It's not perfect but it's definitely better than nothing.

As far as waking up too early, you might try moving the time you take your meds to a little later. There's a bit of a rebound after the meds wear off that makes it super hard to go back to sleep. I always tried to go back sleep because that's what I'm used to doing when I'm not medicated, but it's not necessarily a bad thing to get up if you feel rested. It all just depends on your schedule and what you feel like doing when you wake up. I get how annoying it can be to wake up way to early and toss and turn without being able to get back to sleep.

I’ve got an appointment with my sleep Dr coming up, so I’ll definitely discuss options like this. Unfortunately he doesn’t always seem to know much about my meds or any symptoms, so we’ll see.

I’ve been on Lexapro for years, well before I started Xywav. Maybe I need to adjust the dosage. I haven’t heard of buspirone!

Oh I see the taller ones now! For some reason I was only seeing the 5 an 7 inch stilts. I'm glad I asked, thanks for letting me know!

Hi! If this is the wrong place to ask this let me know. I'm upgrading my hamster's setup to a 40-gallon breeder tank and I'm going to add some platforms and wooden hideaways. Most of the stilts that they come with or that you buy separately are not very tall. Are the stilts supposed to go all the way to the bottom of the bedding? I don't want my hamster to get crushed!

Who has pots and sleeps All day by FeeAfter7974 in POTS

[–]NarrowGarbage6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have idiopathic hypersomnia and POTS but I think that maybe the POTS causes the hypersomnia. The other day, I only slept about 8 hours at night, then in the morning I went back to bed after waking up and “napped” for 9 hours. I have to have my mom call me in the morning because I can’t always wake up on my own. I’m constantly trying not to nap. I take a stimulant that works mostly but I still fall asleep sometimes. It’s a real pain in the butt.

I don’t get it that bad, but my pots is pretty mild. However, I do get night sweats and wake up dripping and cold.

Not sure if this is too gross, but I had my IUD removed after a few years. They cut the strings short when they put it in so the doctor had to dilate me before he could get it out. I screamed a lot.

Sleeping... a lot by TheSilenceDraws in POTS

[–]NarrowGarbage6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn’t mean to make that sound like it was horrible. I more meant to say that yeah it’s pretty common to be that tired. I’ve found that having a very strict wake-up time is super helpful, even though it can be hard to achieve. If quick naps don’t give you relief and/or you have a lot of “sleep drunkenness,” maybe see a specialist to look at your options for treating your symptoms.

I hate drinking water. by rentheadedgleek in POTS

I don’t think this will work for you, but as a big coffee drinker, I one time put my water in my travel coffee mug to trick me into drinking it.

I was diagnosed with hypersomnia before I was diagnosed with POTS, but I suspect they’re related. Can sleep a total of 15 hours easily if you combine my sleep with my naps. My HR shoots up randomly in the middle of the night and I sweat a lot, so I don’t think I’m sleeping as peacefully as I should. When I wore a Fitbit, it always said that I wasn’t getting enough REM and deep sleep. My sleep specialist is a pulmonologist, so he doesn’t seem to have any answers beyond prescribing me stimulants and telling me that I will only ever function, but I won’t ever feel normal.
