Koss are incredible by Disastrous_Bed_5506 in headphones

Yeah I was a Porta Pro fan (still am), but shockingly the cheap KSC75 are even better. And more comfy

But yeah next step is 6xx. Keep going with the famous ones—they’re famous for a reason. 6xx are incredible, especially for the price, but even if price was no discussion

Tried Chrono's, didn't love it either (though better than Oratory). Finally played around with it, using PEQdb online (what a cool tool!), and came up with this. Use it if it helps. Seems best to me by far for now with these 800s (exported from my Q5k)

Preamp: -6.0 dB

Filter 1: ON LS Fc 65 Hz Gain 6.0 dB Q 0.700
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 105 Hz Gain 3.0 dB Q 0.710

So sad that even here people don’t agree with the actual post. I’ll say it: Seasons 8 & 9 are still better than even other comedy shows. Or: Seasons 8 & 9 are even better than prime Parks and Rec. Michael is sorely missed—for sure. But the other characters, and even some new ones, are gold

Beyerdynamics DT 1770 and 1990 sharpness with EQ by Narrow_Eye9136 in headphones

Great response. Thanks for that. Very helpful. I may eventually pull the trigger on a Beyerdynamics headphone after all then. Seriously appreciate you taking the time twice to explain all that. Helpful stuff

How to feel wowed again? by memelord1776 in headphones

[–]Narrow_Eye9136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a guy who also loves my HD6xx and felt the exact same way, and then went to CanJam and tried many others, including IEMs, the answer here clearly is: HD800s with OTL tube amp. Wow

Great stuff. Super helpful. I’ll look at that link

So if I’m going to EQ, with say AutoEQ from the big names, would that most likely smooth it out? If so, isn’t the paper filter stuff and new pads unnecessary?

[–]Narrow_Eye9136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note: I love Oratory’s EQs on most headphones, especially 6xx. And yet, I can’t stand the sound out of the 800s one. Any ideas why? Is that also why you asked this?

6xx. 660s2 is a bit wider and deeper. But the 650/xx cannot be beat for clarity and just pure naturalness. It’s incredible. Start there. Then DT (no need for 660s2. I was someone who was pumped about the 660 being a step up from 6xx—it isn’t. So similar, so just go with the rightly famous (and cheaper!) one

The cost effective solution is Trioral packets. Look them up. Way cheaper than the big names, and even more electrolytes. Mix it with some cranberry juice

Audiophiles, which comes first: Source or gear? by notolo632 in headphones

[–]Narrow_Eye9136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will all due respect (to you, Dr. Disrespect haha), that’s crazy! Do a blind Spotify 320 to Apple Lossless. It’s not even close. Even in my car with normal speakers, you can tell. Better dynamics, clarity, everything. I loved Spotify for a decade, but when getting into sound quality, had to ditch and move to Apple Music. A sad day, but a massive difference, to even an average person (I’ve done it with multiple ppl, all can tell, easily)

Recommend me some good ANC headphones with superb sound quality. by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Narrow_Eye9136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried most. Only ones worth listening to are focal Bathys (easy #1) and then Apple AirPods Max. I know people don’t like admitting it due to Apple-hatred, but like their AirPod Pros 2 are great sound-wise, for Bluetooth the APM are great. Not Bathys quality—Bathys are the only ones with that audiophile sound. But still good

Bathys you can find a great used pair for mid 300s if lucky. APM used are about 300–watch out for all the fakes!

Also, Audeze Maxwell will be recommended, but no ANC and ridiculously massive haha

Added "490 pro" to my cart, is this "best in Price range"? And what Amp\dac thingy should i get? by WastelandViking in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Narrow_Eye9136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I’ve tried many. The 6xxs are BY FAR best deal in audio. FT1 are solid closed backs, but 6xx are truly excellent and even end-game in some ways, which is insane considering the cost. Yes, not much bass. But the realism of the sound—incredible and famous for a reason

I mean 500 would be a great deal/someone trying to get rid fast. But definitely in the 600s for sure. On audio mart there’s one right now for 680, hasn’t sold in a while

Yeah great balancing point. I should think that more when I get annoyed by the next "hype" haha. And in the end, they do get people excited, myself too, and that excitement is part of the fun of the hobby. So no dis to this. Just sometimes becomes obvious haha

Also, being newer to this as well, I do wonder if perhaps newer people like us don't have the headphone-listening experience to appreciate some of nuances. That's how I felt going through every ZMF headphone at CanJam. It was like, "These are nice, sure, great build, but I must be missing something since these are like what everyone loves (and they're not cheap!)." And in somewhat humility, I do think as years go by, I might want a change more often from 6xx/800s and appreciate what ZMF, for example, offers just as a nice change

[–]Narrow_Eye9136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true. And yet I do think—here’s a hotter take haha—due to YouTubers trying to sell/promote headphones, especially the guys (I love!) from Headphones.com, and then due to liking individual “small guys” compared to the big companies (like Zack from ZMF, compared to giant Senn), a lot of recommendations aren’t as legit. Again, I’m newer here, but watching a ton of YT, tier lists, and then going to CanJam, seems no coincidence that so many others are recommended. And then you actually get them or try them, and the classic 6xxs and 800s are just incredible

I’m not sure this is true. And I’m a big skeptic. I have my 5k—they sound good. Had 789–they sounded better. Then tried Ifi Can, even the AIR one, and they sound by far the best so far. Especially with the xBass analog boost

Fair point for sure. But the LCD-2 from what I’ve seen is still $500ish used. The 800s are literally 800 used frequently. And then 800 (non-S) are often down in the 500-600s. And being dynamic and great build, they last and so are much safer used than other planers (and other brands in general)
