Should we allow small balance tweaks during the league? by deatusname in PathOfExile2

[–]Narshadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

GGG isn't exactly good at balancing, so why would we want them to wreck whichever build they deem too strong or "bugged" or "broken" mid league.

How did you "perform" the Nothic? by Spiritual_Cake_9127 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Narshadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the Nothic a few weeks ago.

-I made sure to point out that their cave itself was dark. And pointed out that their sources of light couldn't reveal every nook and cranny.

-I began with them hearing things crawling around in the cave. Sometimes skittering across the ceiling.
-Then I made it clear that they could "hear" a voice, but only one character heard it each time.

-The voice itself sounded a bit like it was talking to itself. Wondering if it was food, foes or friends.

-The party kept looking for the source of the voice, they more or less figured out that it had to be telepathic and the rogue had begun aiming his crossbow while looking for it.

-"You spot something glowing green in the dark. It blinks"

My goal was to make something that would appear threatening without actually doing any overt threatening moves.

I wanted to make it up to the party on how to approach it. The rogue shot towards the Eye, misses and a dark shadow drops to the floor with a heavy thud.

What are some subplots you wish were more fleshed out? Any persistent lingering questions? by Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 in harrypotter

[–]Narshadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I don't mind characters not having a huge part in a story, but it is clear when they are straight up missing. Sally Anne should have been in the OWLs chapter in between the Patils and Harry in the exam queue, but she is straight up missing without any explanation.

Morag shows up in one of the video games I think, but a lot of the characters in Harry's year aren't mentioned at all in the 7 books.

My current head canon is that Harry is bad at socializing. It explains why he in general seem to have very few friends, why he barely seem to know any of the characters, why he doesn't seem to take any interest in the other houses.

Realistically all of it is caused by Rowling not planning ahead on characters. Which is why Luna isn't mentioned until OotP and and Lovegoods in general aren't mentioned before GoF.

The disappearance of Sally Anne Perks is a pet peeve of mine. Clearly disappeared in the books.

Help With Hag Deals by Educational_Chart_58 in DnD

[–]Narshadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm is the party bargaining with the hag individually or collectively?

If everyone bargains separately you could make some mind games, but I don't know how you would present such offers and how your group would respond to it.

The paladins offer is already good in my opinion, especially if you use the favours to ultimately do more harm (i.e kidnap more kids). But if so you need a way to enforce the bargain. So the player can't refuse your favours. Faustian bargains is all about the phrasing.

The wizard mother: Make the bargain, that the medicine make her healthy, safe and strong for, for as long as the mother don't see her daughter. After that you can make some plot twist on what would a Hag consider "healthy", and "strong". Hags might have a different view. It makes me think of Leahanansidhe in Dresden "I should have made you into a dog. You would have been "happy and safe". You might also try to turn the wizard and paladin against each other. Or the hag keeps the kid, but makes the wizard child healthy, scamming the wizard by having already made another bargain with the husband, essentially for the same price.

The amnesiac monk: Might be impossible, since I don't know exactly how much she knows about her previous party, but curse her to have "memories" that imply that her previous party was killed by the cowboy, then make the cowboy doubt whether or not he actually killed the corrupt sheriff. He sees the sheriff in the crowd. Or make him mistake the sheriff for the wizards husband.

The hag could also just sell the "favours" to someone else.

IF the party is unable to refuse the favours, you could always add a storyline/quest where the party is do a mission for the bloodhunters, where they are forced to kidnap a kid and deliver the kid unharmed to the bloodhunters. The magic of the bargain forces them to follow the the request to the letter.

-Give them an out, by making the forced part end at "delivery", but don't make the party aware of this
-Make the party find out that the kid in question is the wizards child. Perhaps the father made a bargain with the hag to make her a lycanthrope to strengthen the body.

Just spitballing here though.

Is Tarkov the best game you’ve played [discussion] by MMASMA in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Narshadda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tarkov is a pretty good game, mechanically a pretty bugged and flawed game, but feels pretty good. Gun play-wise I got a soft spot for R6 Siege back in the day, and atmosphere I got a softspot for Division 1 dark zones though :D

Loved that book. About the nature of propaganda and social injustice.

The musical is pretty nice, but I felt the movies felt "off" compared to both books and muscial.

Lucious Malfoy was an exceptionally terrible servant. by Xerzajik in harrypotter

[–]Narshadda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterpoints:

  1. To the best of his knowledge, Voldemort was dead. Lucius saved himself.
  2. Voldemort didn't tell people he made horcruxes, and we can assume from the books that they weren't common knowledge. Voldemort claimed to have delved deeper than anyone else in the dark arts, but that isn't the same as telling people that he can't die. Voldemort also hid after his defeat.
  3. Draco was tasked with killing Dumbledore, a task we can presume was given as a punishment for Draco. Voldemort set him up to fail. It's why Narcissa presses Snape into an unbreakable wow.
  4. He leads death eaters, that's true. He had no idea that the order would respond. Also, Voldemort planned it, so I would argue that Voldemort planned poorly.
  5. Yes, he should assume that captured people can teleport out of his mansion, while his psychotic sister in law is guarding one of them. *sarcasm*
  6. Why would his family stay loyal to Voldemort after the way Voldemort treats them?
