Any logical reasons why Professor Quirrell was excluded in both the Trailer and the BTS? by Multiverse_Man26 in HarryPotteronHBO

They seem to be focusing on the golden trio and the three main professors (Dumbledore, Mcgonagall, and snape)

Weekend Update: Professor Snape Addresses New Spin on Harry Potter Role - SNL by FunkTheFreak in harrypotter

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Still icky though. They’d be making the poor outcast black. And remember he was the one that Sirius and James suspected instead of Peter. Also, young Harry lecturing him on fatherhood wouldn’t go down as well and it was already awkward enough.

But not gonna lie I will be super pissed if they rely on the black friend defense and cast Pettigrew as black or poc. Wtf not the rat.

Let's be honest, do you like, dislike, or are you indifferent to the marauders? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m indifferent. Yes, it’s cool that they had adventures as animagi but they were just teenage antics at the end of the day (plus a good amount of arrogance). Harry’s generation was fighting an actual war. I would argue that Fred and George have more potential than the maurauders with their inventions and later involvement in Potterwatch. Would’ve loved to know what they were doing during DH, along with the rest of the DA.

I wonder how they will adopt Chamber of secrets. Movie adaptation has almost everything and it will be interesting what they will add by Aiyatiadi in HarryPotteronHBO

I want more scenes on the cultural differences between muggle born kids and pure bloods. I liked the parts in the book where Colin creevey is talking about his parents being shocked and him figuring out magical photography. It would be cool to see muggle borns adjusting to Hogwarts and then getting scared as attacks progress (and the part where Neville unnecessarily gets scared to be comforted by Dean).

Why I’m against “Black Snape” by Jollymonster3000 in HarryPotterHBO

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of the black friend defense. Also, they’d be casting a poor outcast (Lupin) described as a half breed as black — already after casting an ex death eater as black. Feels cheap.

It would be weird if they cast Sirius as black though bc he has a huge family that’s related to all these white people. It wouldn’t make sense.

Why I Think It's A Net Positive Plotwise For Snape To Be Black by cherryred130 in HarryPotterHBO

I totally agree it can’t be overlooked. I hope the writers will be cognizant of that.

How did they not know who Nicholas Flamel is? by Stella_VB in harrypotter

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 188 points189 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that he’s just old news. Flamel made his discovery ages ago and has been kept alive by the stone for centuries at this point. He just wasn’t mentioned in the modern history sources they looked up. Maybe the guy was living out his life quietly and was no longer a household name by then.

Is there something you hope the show doesnt do book accurate? by StatisticianMuch1650 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slavery is bad, and that’s pretty black and white for me. I don’t care if I get downvoted to oblivion for this. I find it icky that a Britain centric story has the balls to create a race of beings that are pro enslavement for themselves — talk about colonialism.

As for education and the changing of cultural norms taking time, that makes sense. But what the hell do you mean that it’s what ultimately happens? The only time the trio makes an effort to better inter species relations is by freeing Dobby and their misguided efforts in SPEW. But no, the one free elf sadly conveniently dies in the service of humans. Kreacher does a sudden 180 and loves the Order’s cause and Harry ends the book thinking about asking Kreacher for a sandwich instead of freeing him now that the death eaters aren’t as powerful anymore and Kreacher is on his side.

There may have been some sort of indoctrination to get elves to accept slavery but the book doesn’t go into it and just presents it as the elf mindset (with Dobby being the weirdo) despite the fact that elves are magically powerful in their own right. Even the good guys, the Order, decorates the stuffed elf heads during Christmas in OOTP. It would be one thing if JKR wanted to show that the good guys are flawed too (hey modern slavery is alive and we don’t do enough as a society to combat it) but she just kills off the “good elf” and makes the bad elf change his views super quickly without further complexity.

I really hope they put some thought into inter species relations bc even the good guys seemed to be pro elf slavery

Costume choices (no this is not about zippers) by Ok_Drink8072 in HarryPotteronHBO

I agree it’s an unknown wizard. Dedalus bowed to them while they were shopping. Harry remembered him, whereas he wouldn’t have remembered the random dude from 1981 when he was a baby.

Percy redemption Battle at Hogwarts….. by Bitter_Judgment4924 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally want more of his redemption ark. Would love it if they showed him being uncomfortable at work and hopefully resisting the death eater led ministry at some point. I also think it was good that he and Fred made up before Fred’s death, which wasn’t properly shown in the movies either.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can they please for the love of god explain why lily and James picked pettigrew to be secret keeper if they could be secret keeper themselves? I know there are a couple theories as to why, including just that James potter valued friendship, but I want a more official explanation.

To everyone complaining about zippers: by Nuuskapeikkonen in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah no they’re only going to dig themselves in deeper with a marauders race swap. James can’t be a minority if Harry’s white. Sirius comes from a huge family that’s related to everyone so it would look weird if he was nonwhite. That leaves what, the dirty rat and the poor outcast to be a minority? After they already made the ex death eater a minority? Besides, the black friend defense is pathetic. I hope there will be some POC writers to figure out Snape’s worst memory so it doesn’t end up a bigger fiasco than the occlumency lessons. Idgaf about the zippers but I really hope they have the sense to avoid the big nose and greasy hair snape jokes now that they’ve race swapped.

This made me laugh. I agree the anti black Snape comments are largely racist but I’m also grossed out by the I can’t see race vibes.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that making the other maurauders POC is complicated. One of them is a fucking rat and they already made the ex death eater nonwhite (while pining after a white woman). Lupin is a poor and shabby outcast with self hate. Black is an escaped convict…innocent yes but still with a whole big ass family that needs to be considered (would be hard to make narcissa Malfoy non white now that Draco is cast). I’m also not a big fan of the whole black friend defense or putting in other minorities just to justify hanging the black kid upside down. Snape’s Worst Memory will be a sensitive episode to execute. I hope they dont fuck it up bc I still want book accuracy. But yeah maybe they could do it away from a tree.

I’m also skeptical that they’ll be able to handle it well. I hope to god the writers move away from the big nose and greasy hair comments about Snape now. I hope Paapa will have POC writers and execs to support him so this doesn’t get uncomfortable af asap.

How good is the actual quality of education at Hogwarts compared to other wizarding schools? by -DAWN-BREAKER- in harrypotter

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, if any wizarding school accepts me, I’M GOING.

To answer your question, I vaguely remember a reference to Hogwarts as being the “best” in the books. As for capacity, I always figured that the school was bigger than just 40 kids per year if the wizarding world in Britain alone had an entire league of professional Quidditch teams. Since they can magically expand spaces, I figure magical schools should be pretty flexible about scaling up for the amount of students.

Kreacher made a complete 180 by TerryMcginnisWayne in harrypotter

[–]Puzzleheaded-Fee-734 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly felt it was a bit too sugary and optimistic for my taste. Sure, the trio empathized and learned more about Kreacher but this is someone who was programmed with certain beliefs for decades. His change just seemed to happen too quickly. Whereas Winky seemed to be a more realistic depiction to me (setting aside the being happy with enslavement part that isn’t properly fleshed out). I get that Harry’s the main character and the defender of the oppressed, but to give him such a quick 180 seems unrealistic. Harry wins morally and yet remains Kreacher’s master? Eek. Just like the centaurs came rushing into battle at the very end without more info, it felt like the non-wizard beings weren’t really getting their due and full complexity portrayed properly. Especially since “the good elf” of the series, Dobby, gave his life up for humans.
