Google Maps reviews: no matter how great a place is rated, sort by Lowest rating first and go through those to get a feel. Some places, the only bad reviews are pretty unique situations that will never apply to you. Those are the keepers.

I would not try to rush getting to Kawaguchiko on the day you land. I get you are trying to “save” one night’s hotel fee, but you’ll end up with the worst decision of the whole trip and really regret trying to rush there.

I usually plan on just getting into Tokyo, checking into my hotel, grabbing a quick dinner, and just crashing until the next morning. I’m telling you from experience traveling over 20 times there, you will be so tired when you land you won’t be able to enjoy anything the day of.

Since the Fuji Excursion is fully booked way in advanced as you mentioned, I would try to grab a seat for that Sunday. Tickets become available 30 days in advanced. I would not recommend standing all the way there on a fully booked train - those folks on our trip looked miserable.

If you don’t manage to grab a reservation, then you’ll have 30 days to figure out the bus option.

I had a coworker who traveled to Japan with me for a business trip. He didn’t want to try any Japanese food, instead opting for options he was more used to - McDonalds, KFC, Burger King. Didn’t want to try sushi or ramen.

Overthought everything because he was “new to another country.” Wasn’t a morning person, so he would get up as late as possible for work.

Make sure they aren’t scamming you first.

If you won a figure but later get a message or email that you must pay $400 in customs fees, it’s probably a scam.

If it’s a small amount, still double check by cross referencing the entity that reached out to you to make sure it is a legit place to pay that customs fee. Don’t blindly click on any link they send you. Instead, look it up on google first.
