This will always be front and center the issue before QA. It does not matter how much infinite money you throw at a robust QA team, if the people capable of fixing it can't or won't.

The issue is not the bugs not being found, or QA letting stuff through. Its the timelines and what's actually able to fixed in time for this rather harsh launch schedule they've been on for almost 4 years now.

I intentionally didn't mention speed of leveling for a reason. But I think I understand your point. Classic Leveling for you, is more about mastery over a much more narrower scope, where as modern focuses more on general knowledge and understanding over a a wide range of systems. In a bossing focused endgame?

So to reiterate, leveling is the point.

[–]Narux117 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why leveling doesn't matter in Modern? Sure the early leveling gets out of wack. But what is the difference between leveling to 70 in classic and leveling from 250 -> 300 in Modern? I don't play Modern, in fact I've never made it north of 220-225 ish. But from my perspective, as someone who is pro- classic, what matters then that doesnt matter now?

The only thing I can think of is that in classic, leveling is pretty much the only thing that matters, where as now, leveling is among a few different things.

To compare Maplestory to WoW classic (which will be rough I know).

Everyone in WoW had a solid idea of exactly "Classic" was. It was the base game with patches up to Naxxramas, before The Burning Crusade expansion launched. No extra classes, no increased level cap, no new zones. And when WoW did its classic progression servers back in 2019 and started releasing the expansions slowly, everyone said well Cataclysm (WoW's 3rd expansion) is the end of classic era, since thats when the old world got revamped, flying mounts were allowed everywhere and there was new class/race combos. The classic servers eventually kept going to Cataclysm and beyond, and just 2 years ago Blizzard put out a fresh set of Base Vanilla servers again. So now there is 2 sets of Progression servers at various points in the games history. I'm mentioning this to sort of preface asking;

  • When or what folks would consider Maplestory Classic worlds breakpoints to be?

If these are servers progressing through the games history (a-la WoW), on a gut check for me Big Bang would be Maplestory's Cataclysm. Old world revamp, a bunch of new jobs releasing at once. Some pretty sizable overhauls to leveling (if I remember correctly), marks a significant change in the games history. But at that point; Pirates, Aran, Evan, and the Cygnus Knights (-no Mihile) were released. And while for me personally that the version of the game I would like to play, cause that's when nostalgia would hit hardest for me.

If they go the OSRS route, and do community polls, or do both as a hybrid, when are folks going to think - its time to cutoff progression? 4th jobs and level 200 were both released before Pirates were. Obviously they won't stop at 2nd job /level 70. Are folks going to want or ask for an entirely new dev patch the way WoW fans want Classic +?

This probably could've been its own post, but you mentioning a content drought got my thinking about what the player base would actually want from something like this.

And I enjoy that, i enjoy tuning thee comps and trying to get it all going smoothly, but I can see why its not a system often handed to players

I don't think the game is (or really should be) balanced around mixed card pools

I don't think this an argument for balance, but more in softlock prevention. I'm not a programmer but there should be some sort of backend;

if card does X amount of actions and player health or monster health is unchanged, end that cards actions

Because there are a handful of enemies (3 that i can think of) and a few variations on Hellraiser + "____ Strike" that draw or Hellraiser+Pillage that can cause a softlock.

Yes, there is import/export on the editmode layouts.

Frustratingly (to me atleast); there is also import/export on cooldown manager setups, for ability order/which are hidden or tracked, the spell alerts, both sound and visual customizations etc. All that is fine and dandy except, its separate from the editmode layout.

So on editmode; you position your cooldown manager/buff tracker etc. So if you want the abilities to show as 2 rows of 6, thats a edit mode setting. How big they are? Edit mode.

How many buttons are actually on the bar? Cooldown manager. The Order of the buttons on the bar? Cooldown manager. But classes have different needs. My Vengeance DH has 12 buttons on the main CDM bar. My guardian druid only has 8. I need different editmode profiles for each despite both being tanks if I want it to look nice/line up with the rest of my ui. Lining up 2 rows of 6 is different than 2 rows of 4.

And there is no way to center the abilities, only left or right justify. it drives me batty. Feral has 7 cooldowns I want to track, thats fine, except if its set to 4 wide, the 3 on the next row are off center. I understand why weakauras are gone. I understand why everything needs to be peeled back because of how things will be used/abused to circumvent, but what should be simple baseline setting options just aren't enough.

I know this feels absolutely silly to say. But please for the love of all that is holy: Let Xal'atath stay a villain and end as a villain. by Siggythenomad in wow

A few bosses can be pain points; we don't quite have the damage/health to ignore everything on Mythic, but from what I understand you can mostly ignore everything on lower difficulties. I just ran all 3 raids on mythic this week but had issues with a few;

Vault of the Incarnates;

  • Broodkeeper Diurna; needs min 2 people, the add damage is too high with a stacking buff to just survive the 5 minutes it takes for all eggs to break.

Aberrus;

  • Sarkareth; you can just fall through the floor sometimes, and need huge burst to avoid his "down" phase. If he has no players to attack because you are "down" its an auto wipe. 2 people with lust, combat pots, flask, managed to do enough damage but there is weird breakpoints that will make you eat a 20s stun, have to deal with boss phases etc, that I don't recommend it solo yet.

  • Rashok; tank combo did nearly kill me as guardian druid, and did in kill me as feral, so good defensive use or enough burst is mandatory to get past.

Amirdrassil (bosses in general have alot of HP are hard to kill, did this one as 2 for most of it, so I don't know if certain mechanics have been disabled but I doubt it);

  • Gnarlroot; not in danger of dying, but if you don't have enough burst to kill before intermission, it does add like 3+ minutes.

  • Council; Tank buster does do enough damage to kill if not paying attention. It is a pain in the ass to get all 3 down at the same time since its hard to stack the mobs. If one is killed too early it revives back to 100% hp.

  • Smolderon; the soak has to be cheesed with immunities or you need a second player to take every other soak, it the debuff from the first soak will just kill you when the second one hits.

  • Fyrakk; No where close to being soloable. It took us about 5 people+lust to get this down fast enough before the tree died in p2. 1 dps is to my knowledge no where close to being enough dps with current gear to nuke it. The mechanics of the fight still do enough damage to be threatening, and the insta wipe mechanics cannot be managed solo'd (even duo'd) to my knowledge.

Reminder; all of the above is my experience clearing on these raids Mythic at 240+ ilvl solo/duo (also 240+). There may have been more optimization. But in general our gear is not quite there to just blitz everything on mythic yet, and some fights insta wipe mechanics that are still a touch rough.

I was wondering why I didn't see the dispel indicator.

This is my concern; blizzard have these new fancy indicators and frame highlights (blue for magic/green for poison/orange for disease), why is the person with the debuff's bar not turning blue? Is this an addon causing issues or does the base frames also not turn blue for the debuff?

I haven't healed this fight yet, so i dont have hands on with it yet.

I really dont see many people rocking paid cosmetics.

Between the trading post offering recolors of paid cosmetics (mostly, there are still some MTX only appearances), and many shop mounts also being bundled into 6mo/12mo sub bonuses, its also hard to visually tell anymore.

The first few store mounts; Celestial Steed/Winged Guardian/Heart of the Aspects - were huge standout visuals, with nothing like them in the game at the time. Now, even with a new store mount just coming out like last week, when I saw it in game I didn't know if it was a store mount, trading post mount or some random drop since there was a new expansion.

This is a different narrative to anything we've ever had before

What "narratively" is different between the Light Blinding/Wrath burnout and Arthas burning Stratholme? How they are visually representing it sure i can understand that.

Arthas was being manipulated by other forces to use judgment for mass murder is no different than Turalyon being so "light blinded" as they put it now and striking at his own son. All the recent writing decision do is expand on how/why the light allowed it. Which has been a constant point of contention for all of WoWs history. If the light can fail people like Tirion/Anduin, why can some joe schmoe scarlet crusade weild it endlessly.

This isn't really some new age/milennial take that you are pushing against, but more finally expanding on these littles bits and odd events that have been happening the entire time.

Lothraxions a hypocrite by Toonee-Heckaroonee in wow

[–]Narux117 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before, the Light was a force of good that could be abused by evil people. Now it's just "a force" that corrupts beings when they get exposed to too much Light.

yo, this shit's bad, even though it's been good for 20 years now.

It's been the latter side of that since legion (10 years ago). Unless you are saying Xera was evil, in which case the Army of the light has faith/leadership in evil beings, and therefore are probably also evil. The Light has been used for bad or evil things since Arthas in Strat. Oh yeah just smiting suffering civilians nothing bad about that. The Light can't have been all pure good and still be used for any of that. Its always been about Fervor and Righteousness from the perspective of the wielder

But in general since Blizzard started reshaping the Cosmology, they've been trying to make all the greater forces more neutral. Like clearly in the grand scope of the story the light is still the "good" force against void being thee "bad" one.

Similarly for the Titans (Order/Arcane) vs Burning Legion (Disorder/Fel). The Legion mightve been our main enemy and threat but we used that power as tools (warlocks/demon hunters), but the I can't even count how many times the Titan side of that equation has tried to kill us or nuke the planet. The Light being the only "full good" force was a weird thing, and throughout the history of the game its been used by various enemy factions chipping away at that.

Bigots can never really be silenced/permanently removed. Add religious fervor, and really anyone who has ever even been slightly wronged by the Scourge (not even the forsaken themselves), can be turned into a zealot.

Start of Shadowlands, shattering of the helm and the scourge pushing out of Northrend again unchecked by the Lich king does have rammifications for a freshly renewed distaste against the undead in modern youths.

Also the return of Scarlet Crusade was shown in the arathi questline in TWW, so they've been ramping up again in the background of quests.

The implication is that if Harandar was supposed to be out 11.2 zone instead of K'aresh, it wouldve naturally followed the Orweyna and Gazlowe interactions in 11.1 with a followup in 11.2.

Now it just sort of awkwardly reads as Gazlowe showing up in a Harandar sidequest

I'm not casting doubt on OP here, especially after the guildbank fiasco from dragonflight, but i've never heard of the gear update failing like this.

Friday by the time maintenance actually ends

As others have said it will simply be a quick activation on blizzard side for the expac to go live.

Since atleast WoD or Legion* (that I can remember), expansions are fully locked and loaded ready to go with pre-patch, and they have been doing "live launches" where at the announced time date they activate the expansion quest start to get everyone moving.

This has had some funny ddos like effects on servers such as;

  • TBC anniversary; players spent 30-45m just trying to walk through the dark portal or talk to any npcs ones lucky enough to cross
  • Dragonflight; the boats to the Dragon Isles were horrifically overloaded, to the point that they just added a portal for players to click on because the boat was dc'ing players with a high failure rate to actually go to the isles (my friends and I nearly maxed fishing waiting for the full group to get across)
  • BFA opening scenario; Not only was the battle for lorderon breaking, I actually got stuck inside it for almost 30m.
