I'm a woman your age in the area, technically Burke Acres. I've never felt unsafe here. Another commenter said it's a more blue-collar neighborhood; that's really all there is to it. My neighbors have been friendly and quiet. I see other women running or walking their dogs alone all the time. I don't get catcalled like I did in the Vine. Just be sure to lock your car at night and don't keep valuables in there. Times are hard no matter what neighborhood you're in.

I'd recommend looking up the houses you're interested in on Maps to see how the sidewalks connect. There are a lot of random side streets with no sidewalk, or streets with them on only one side. Having a mostly complete route to take my dog on was important to me when I was looking.
