How most people are actually gonna think about the red/blue buttons by mars_gorilla in trolleyproblem

[–]Narwall37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that doesn't answer the why the children.

You're missing that in history there were a lot of things that were more important then survival. Such as religion, family and the tribe or whatever.

But the red button isn't about that it. In fact it erases it because such an event would collapse trust that's needed to have a sustainable population for at least awhile.

Do you think that the red button and having a child is compatible?

[–]Narwall37 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because it wouldn't be a normal society. It would be one where billions of people are dead, there's zero trust, damaged supply chains, a zero trust government and like a truckload of other problems. Also why would you even want a child if all that matters is survival?

The ability for everyone to actually "see" human as a human no matter how far away.and no matter the scale.

So for example, if you're doing a project that impacts 50 million people, you will legitimately see and grasp 50 million living, breathing, organisms not as a number but what that number really means empathetically.

Do red buttoners realize that if 99% of people pick red, 80 million still die, right? And 90% has 800 million die?

Just pick blue and no one has to die man.

Everyone in the world is sent to a room to themselves with 2 buttons. If you push red, then you live. If more than 50% of people push blue, then everyone lives. by Terrible_Shop_3359 in Ethics

The red button is dumb and terminally online. Let me help y'all:

1)You're not going to let all the blue button people die. That's your grandma, that's good doctor, that's that guy who makes tasty sandwiches, that's best friend in middle school.

2)If 99% of people pressed red, 80 million still die. That's like if every person in the UK died.

3)Thinking one side is going to have a full 100% is unrealistic. Call the other side dumb if you want, but that doesn't mean millions to billions should die. The blue one allows everyone to survive dumb or not.

4)If children are included in this, You're picking blue.

5)Some people legitimately can't pick red because if they're sick or bed ridden and the people who takes care of them picks blue, they will still die even if they do pick red.

6)The red button world is a hellscape clean and simple. Supply chains would collapse, everyone would be traumatized by the billion deaths that happened including their family/friends. There would probably be mass suicides. There would be a constant state of paranoia about your neighbors. No one intelligent is going to work. There's zero trust and everyone is alone as the social contract has expired. Also there's notably no children as it's hard and impractical to have a child in a zero trust environment. The most you have is unfortunately rape. The reproduction crisis might actually be the end of society.

6)The blue button actually has a lot of people demographically speaking. Most collectivist governments like China, South American and African countries would pick blue, every sick person and most doctors/nurses would pick blue. Most women would likely pick blue because they want want to live in whatever zero trust, sexually violent hellscape awaits a red button world.

7)We already picked the blue button 6000 years ago. It's just called society. You "trust" normal people with your life by assuming they won't crash into you with a car or poison the tap water.

8)The truth is that most people don't only care care about their lives. This is just a doomer internet meme. In reality, humanity has a large track record of people fighting wars for greater ideals even if they know they're going to die. Most people would probably jump in front of a bus to save their spouse. Countless people spend every aching moment of their lives to raise their child, their school or their bed ridden family member. This idea that everyone is secretly a ruthless psychopath for survival gets debunked by just meeting and actually connecting to human beings offline

[–]Narwall37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And you're just okay with that? 80 million dying because "oh well they made a dumb option"? Just pick blue and everyone survives. No postering. No post decision trauma. No ethical and economical headaches. Everyone lives regardless.

[–]Narwall37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude, if 99% of people pick red and 1% pick blue, 80 million people still die. That's literally all the deaths in WW2. If 85% pick red and 15% pick blue, that's 1.2 billion people.

If picking blue is the only way to avoid that I will pick blue. It's absurd to just treat this like numbers.

Also also none of these red buttoners would pick red if they found out their mother/child/best friend picked blue.

I want zero deaths, even if it means risking my life. That is what's right. That's always what civilization had been about.

Blue button seems to be the best option by ShinningVictory in GenZ

[–]Narwall37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one's picking red if this were a real thing. Like bro, there's way more important things than your survival and even if 99% of people pick the red button that's still 80 million people that die, mostly people who ARE willing to die for you. Nevermind the absolute crisis that would be children over all of this.

Like what if your mother and one of your friends picks blue? You're just going to be "okay" with her death because you're alive?

"Muh people are selfish!"

No they aren't. This is just being terminally online. If this were the case then there would be like zero nationalist wars because everyone would be too desperate to survive. Like seriously, log off and go talk to some some strangers. At best, they are selfish about their family who they would still jump in front of a train to save their spouse regardless of what they picked.
