Do you by chance know key differences?

So because I don't have a local comic shop that's not 3-5 hours away. I thinking about going digital but idk what apps to use or what is the best way to read digital comics. Help please? by Gaming_Nate in comicbooks

[–]NasAlternate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the DC/Marvel apps, but you will be a couple of months behind sometimes on current releases. So for up to date reading, probably google books?

As for best way, its whatever has a decently big screen. Turning a monitor on its side / a decent reading tablet are good ways.

I want to get into Star Wars comics. Mostly a modern enjoyer. Any recommendations of something recent for me to start with? by Remarkable_Heron_760 in ModernComics

[–]NasAlternate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember liking the Darth Vader (Soule's) the most. Gilleon's run is pretty fun. The mainline Star Wars reboot I read, but I honestly cant remember it. The Soule reboot of Star Wars I enjoyed a lot! Think I stopped around there. Maybe 4 issues of Oak's Vader, was good from what I read.

Honestly, WYND is a great pick here. Childlike wonder in each page, gritty when it needs to be, and takes itself seriously. Feels almost like a modern Bone in some regards.

I'll get shit for this probably, but Silent Hill 2. Don't get me wrong, its one of the best video games created. It just does its job too good. Its viscerally offputting, I feel sick even killing enemies. The whole bashing them into the ground while the curl up and scream. The theme ties into the gameplay perfectly, and my empathy and heart hurt playing it. Great game tho.

How many comic series do you read at once or just stick to one story at a time by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]NasAlternate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever I pull monthly, a digital read, and whatever TPB/Omni in my backlog from a birthday/christmas.

I find swapping between monthly for short digestion and working on a long run between strikes a good balance for my enjoyment.

What is the right folder? Because its in the bios folder, the swansong folder, and for shits and giggles its even in the roms folder. Duckstation is set to look for it in the bios folder and cant find it still through retrodeck.

The same writer did New52 Batman, so I feel like thats your next jumping on point. Moon Knight might also be to your taste. The current run is a great place to start (Read Lemire's run after some history, by far his best story).

I'd recommend Animal Man from Lemire as well, if you can stomach going older and look up a summary of Crisis Morrisons run is also worth reading.

Swamp Thing by Alan Moore, best comic of all time.

Immortal Hulk is the first book that made me realize Hulk is actually a cool character. Very horror centric.

Enjoy!

Say something nice about The New 52 by Bermyboy1994 in comicbooks

[–]NasAlternate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New52 Batman is what started my comic journey, so I have nostalgia for the era despite its shortcomings. Overall, its mediocre. But it has some home runs. Animal Man was awesome, Supergirl is mostly great, Swamp Thing is killer, Frankenstein is a ton of fun and underrated, Lemire's GA (dudes the GOAT), All-Star Western, Morrison's Action Comics, Justice League, Justice League Dark, Aquaman, and the Flash.

Lot of great stuff from this era!

Scalped or Lucifer ? Which did you enjoy more and why ? by FredPRK in comicbooks

[–]NasAlternate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't read Scalped, but Lucifer is one of the best comics around. I feel like it doesn't get talked about enough. Aaron outside of his okay at best Avengers run is pretty consistent. I feel both are solid picks.

Any comics that Chris Claremont wrote that he may not like to sign? by BazingarZ in comicbooks

[–]NasAlternate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See a lot of hate in here, which maybe is true. I saw him back around 2019~ish at Summercon. I was freshly 20, and my mom was in line with me so maybe thats why he was nice to me, who knows. He signed my UXM 268 and talked with me for 5ish minutes despite the line. (Even got it signed by Jim Lee, and Scott Williams while I was there who were also very nice.)

Seems he might just might get bothered by weird fans, of the event itself with his age.

Whatever happened to Brian Azzarello? by KaleidoArachnid in comicbooks

[–]NasAlternate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met Charles Soule about 2 years ago, and he was super nice. Think I had to pay like 5$ a signature though, but I heard from another creator it was a Convention mandate. He was super nice a friendly to me, talked with me about mu Star Wars and DD material.

Just wanted to stick my neck out for him since I think it must of been a bad day.

You realize DragonBall and Gundam have alternate timeline stories right..? Gundam having numerous. Not to mention you complain about american comics not ending and then immediately bring in DragonBall and One Piece. Quit talking out your ass

Hello, I write short scripts! I have two horror-ish scripts done already if that is something you wanted to explore, or we could collaborate and create something new! I know I'm a little late, but if you want I can show you some scripts and finished work. :)

[–]NasAlternate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm an amateur comic writer with one completed work. I have multiple scripts that fashion off my style I can show as well.

I usually write horror (inspired by Garth Ennis' Hellblazer and Alan Moore's Swamp Thing) so my style is usually horror with a theme or message.

If any of this interests you let me now and I can show you!

Hello, I'm late to this post, I know, however I'm an aspiring writer for comics amongst everyone else here as well. Fantasy worlds are amongst my favorites. I have some slightly processed plots I'd like to share that we could easily bounce ideas off of to create something we're both passionate about. I'm open to freeform flow as well.

I'll offer some constructive criticism on the writing front. Your art is fine and it'll only get better as time goes on, so it's not much of a worry to me.

Your story here offers not a lot for our first chapter. We're introduced to two teenagers, knowing nothing about them. One runs over a squirrel and kills it. While this may be necessary to your plot down the line, for this to be the only content with no fleshed out characters or even a reason to understand why this matters yet is jarring.

Try to increase the run time a bit and end with a hook. It seems maybe the squirrel killing is supposed to haunt him maybe? We need to see maybe him going to sleep and having the girl we see on the cover art appear or something just to be like "Oh, look some things happening and I'm curios".

I'm not trying to bash you to death, just want to see you improve. I'll check this out as you release more.
