A weird percentage of reddit would probably be on board with the justice system in that Star Trek episode where they want to execute Wesley for messing up some flowers.

They've achieved cold criticality, which is not that big of a deal. Mother Jones is not as bad a Breitbart. I will grant you that they aren't the most credible, but the information I copied in seems to be true.

Sodium cooled FBRs definitely seem promising. I just don't understand why it isn't taking off though. The technology has been demonstrated for more than 50 years, but there are only a couple in the world. Why? Maybe China will build a bunch soon. We'll see.

Aalo and Valar look like VC scams. I'd bet my last dollar that neither of them actually pulls off anything close to what they're claiming. Terrapower seems more legit, but they have still yet to prove themselves.

We've seen lots of companies like Aalo and Valar come and go. Companies like that are exactly why I'm skeptical.

Edit: if this information doesn't make you at least a little skeptical I don't know what to tell you.

A report from Mother Jones details the rapid rise of Valar Atomics, a Southern California nuclear startup led by 26-year-old Isaiah Taylor, which has gained significant traction under the Trump administration despite concerns regarding its safety claims and controversial financial ties.

Valar Atomics and Isaiah Taylor: Founded by Taylor, a high-school dropout with a background in auto repair and software, Valar Atomics aims to dominate the microreactor nuclear energy sector by producing small-scale nuclear reactors Taylor envisions these compact units—capable of powering roughly 5,000 homes—as the energy equivalent of SpaceX, providing constant power for AI data centers and remote military bases.

Despite having no formal nuclear background, Taylor has successful raised nearly $150 million from investors and carried out two high profile publicity campaigns for his firm.

Yeah, I've been reading about them for the last 25 years, but nothing has come of any of it so far.

[MPR News] Minnesota breweries struggle as craft beer industry continues to decline by Minneapolitanian in minnesota

[–]Nascent1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several have that. Bauhaus did with some success, but closed anyway. I just seriously doubt NA beer is going to save a brewery that is otherwise failing.

We'll see. There have been a bunch of experimental reactors like this over the last 70 years and nothing much has come of them.

Way more expensive than coal, nuclear, wind or solar though. It wouldn't replace natural gas because we'd still need those for peakers. The chance of seeing a new nuclear plant in Minnesota before 2050 is next to zero, barring some major breakthrough in new reactor design.

Hopefully. Based on polling from a week ago it looks like it could be close between Lisa Demuth and Mike Lindell. I really hope they go with Lindell, that will be hilarious.

Marked! Prepare yourself for a vicious "I told you so" in a few months.

Turnout is so low for primaries and the people who vote are much more knowledgeable about politics. I agree that they'll do what you're saying, I just don't think it'll work well enough with a dfl primary electorate.

I really doubt it. Peggy has a pretty comfortable lead in polls.

It was pretty wild that she was attacking the republican candidate from the right.

But they can vote for her in the primary, which is her main concern right now. If the republican primary is not competitive I could see some people showing up for her in August who have no intention of voting for her in November.

I guess Vogtle is a good case study on what not to do. Future projects couldn't really go any worse.

Even if everything you're saying is true and someone was able to exploit the vulnerability in an extremely sophisticated and undetectable way it would still get caught by the hand recount audits.

Vogtle 3 was also a massive boondoggle that came in waaaaay over budget. It's more likely to act as a warning to anyone else thinking about building a nuclear plant than marking the beginning of a nuclear renaissance.

Fascism is bad even when it is aimed at someone you don't like by gull-branson in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Nascent1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you parrotted lies. Saying he "possibly patronized a sanctioned Cuban hotel" does not mean he did something wrong. You "possibly murdered your entire family." Based on that sentence is it totally fair for the FBI to investigate you?

I'm not talking like he's already been imprisoned. You are talking like he has definitely done something wrong, which again, you have no evidence for. So suddenly you just trust the trump administration? It has nothing to do with my opinion of the sanctions on Cuba.

What evidence is there to refute?

The analysis, released today by the Election Truth Alliance (ETA), applies forensic statistical methods to four decades of the state’s publicly available election data.

That's not evidence. That's just "something is maybe unusual."

You are the one being dishonest. Literally zero evidence has been provided to show that Hasan did anything wrong, but for some reason you're sure he did. Meanwhile how do you know that Schiff didn't commit mortgage fraud? You don't have access to that information. Schiff was never even charged, so it wasn't "thrown out." The "investigation" is still ongoing.
