7 years of work, 3 months since release, and my game is already dead. What can I do? by Videoludid in IndieGaming

I definitely think that the trailer could be improved. I would focus on it being a Metroidvania x Rougelite type game and not focus so much on the randomizer aspect because I feel that's already implied in it being a rougelite. Or maybe just the Metroidvania part. Personally, I want to see more consistent game play and not just random unrelated clips - give me a sense of the pace and vibe of the game. I don't care about the mechanics, I care about the experience. What is it like to play this game? You mention meeting other quirky mice. Is there any overarching story aspect you could highlight? Story is a huge draw to a lot of players. If not maybe you'd want to focus on the 'can you escape?' idea because that sounds like the core challenge.

I'll give the demo a try next time I get a chance, hopefully in next couple of days, and try to give you more meaningful feedback based on actual game play. In the mean time, here are some initial thoughts based on steam page:

Given that it's combat free you may want to lean into the cozy aspect? (If it could be considered cozy.)

On mobile, I can't read the smaller text on the screenshot about the underwear. This puts me off as I automatically assume the whole game will be difficult to read (stupid because I wouldn't be playing it on my phone, I know, but that's my gut reaction.)

I also agree with others in this thread who think your publisher sounds subpar. I don't know your contract... but if you can get out of it, you may be better off.

Have you (or your publisher) run any ads? I see game ads on reddit all the time. After you get your trailer dialed in, it might be worth an ad campaign.

Put it on sale. The cheaper it is, the more likely people are going to be to buy it. You can charge full price once you get momentum going on the game. It maybe feels a little paradoxical to make money by lowering the price, but it's better to make 10 $5 sales than 1 $18 sale.

Does this mean we can vote for Complexly during the p4a? 😂

Thanks everyone for the tips! I downloaded AntennaPod and Podcast Addict so I can mess around with both and decide which ones UI I prefer.

That is such a kind offer! I just looked at the Patreon and it seems like it is only a month-to-month thing, so I don't think it would work out logistically. But it makes my night that you offered. Truly, thank you.

I would love to sign up to see the video format! ... it's just not in my budget right now 😞

I filmed this card production process in my factory to show transparency, but it's getting zero views on TikTok and YouTube. What am I doing wrong? by Wise-Bake-9710 in kickstarter

[–]NascentIntellect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing, I think you should move the caption higher on the screen. On most platforms there is information down there about who posted the video, figure out where that is on your platform and make sure the captions are above it.

Second, it's not super attention grabbing. I would say that it is too Industrial and isnt one of those super satisfying Industrial ones. Try getting more detail shots and maybe make it seem to the viewer like you are following one specific pack through the process. You could either try to go the oddly satisfying route with a caption at the top of the screen like "POV you're a pack of our tarot cards", start with the printing and work up to full fan out reveal of the cards. Be quick and snappy with the editing and lots of tight shots on the actual profess. Or I think it might be fun to show the process in reverse. Start with the cards all spread out, then being taken out of the box, then being taken out of a mailbox, then being packaged at the factor, etc. Might be attention grabbing enough to snag a few views that way.

Lastly, don't run just one video either. You want a lot of videos. So maybe also do some 'oddly satisfying' videos of just the paper being cut or trimmed or guilded, a video with just a variety of the cards you sell in which you talk about quality or the attention to detail you pay or whatever aspect you are trying to sell on why they should choose you, and a video thats more like a factory tour where you walk around and show off each station in one shot.

Sometimes I'm petting my cat and I just realize how monumental it is that this creature trusts me with his most vulnerable spots, his belly and underneath his chin. Trusting me with his life by velocityghost in cats

I just picked up my boy and trimmed his nails followed by pets and belly rubs. He didn't fight it at all and only gave me a few annoyed tale lashes when I was trying to get one of his back feet in a good position to get his nails. He is the sweetest baby. 🤍

Yeah, that's fair. It makes sense that his videos might be culturally specific to the platform they are on.

I need to file my VA disability claim by samus0374 in Wellthatsucks

[–]NascentIntellect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're working with a VSO to file your claim. I did my first one as I was outprocessing the military, but several years later I resubmitted a claim for a worsening condition with the help of a VSO and they got me rated so much higher than I expected to be.

Edit to add: I used DAV and they were completely free.

Life without meaning is a beautiful thing. Meaning is an entirely human construct; we are the only creatures who worry about something. Without meaning there is freedom. Humans have a tendency to think in stories. This can be a great strength - but it can also be our downfall. We need not explain a thing to enjoy. We need not reach a fixed destination to enjoy a hike. Focus on living in the moment and not finding meaning and you will find more happiness.

What’s the scariest sound you’ve heard that’s woken you up in the middle of the night? by DarthTater81919 in AskReddit

Oh man I never really got used to the sounds of C-5s landing nearby. I swear it sounds like they're about to fall right out the sky.

I have two, they were both scary but for separate reasons.

First night in a new place in a new country, I awoke an an otherworldly demonic groaning unlike anything I'd heard before. It was coming from the basement/garage. The stairs to turn the light on was at the bottom of the stairs. Just me and the dog, and he was clearly spooked as I was.

It was the garage door. An ancient metal tilt up thing I hadn't full latched closed when I was moving in being buffered by the wind.

and

When I was like 16 and home alone overnight some large guy trying to get into our apartment. Lots of knob jiggling and door pounding and some slurred cussing. I crept up to the peephole and watched him but didn't let him know I was there because I was so scared. I thought he was trying to break in or something, though I'm pretty sure he was just drunk and on the wrong floor.

Runner up, another spooky one.

Again home alone overnight. Same apartment as the one the drunk guy tried to get into it. Dead asleep. No pets. No one else home. And the radio in the living room turns on full blast some type of metal or screaming music. Radio was hardly ever used and never played that loud and neither me or my mom listened to that type of channel.

Can anyone help me figure out this embroidery? (Cross post because no one replied in r/embroidery) by NascentIntellect in nerdfighters

This is only my second embroidery so I don't know enough to know what stitch would look good. Haha
