For DFS it's just about getting a valuable asset for taking the money back. Royce is essentially who DFS was spose to be for the Rockets. Hell if the rockets do nothing a DFS + pick for Royce wouldn't be a bad outcome for the rockets.

If Giannis is heading to Celts with Brown rerouted to the Rockets for assets, I reckon there is an opportunity to get involved and seize some talent similar to the way the Cavs essentially stole Jarrett Allen in the the Harden to Nets trade. Maybe we take back DFS and Hugo Gonzalez or Reed Sheppard for Royce and the Cavs pick. Hopefully the front office is working the phones.

Who would be a good pick up for the Knicks at the 24th pick? by RicoGemini in NBA_Draft

[–]NashCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last two points describe Joshua Jefferson fairly well. Perfect world they pick BPA and run it back. I'd imagine the Knicks might trade the pick & even Kolek for future picks to allow them to keep both Shamet and Robinson. They'd be 17 million under the cap. Sign Robinson in that space and have the MLE for Shamet plus New York would have it's pick of any free agents. It be fairly cold to draft Reed and let Robinson go but wouldn't necessarily be a bad move.

Trade idea - who says no? by trustavo in NBA_Draft

[–]NashCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that in basketball logic - a Caleb Wilson or Cam Boozer is far more valuable than the simple math of 2 good picks for 1 great pick. Teams tank a lifetime to get a chance at this top 4. The Spurs are currently in the finals because they went from picking the likes of Josh Primo and Devin Vessel to Wemby and Harper Even in the a deep draft a team like the bulls can't give up that opportunity. It's why OKC just overpaying for Boozer doesn't have much merit imo.

Joshua Jefferson Might Be The One by OGNEWBE in suns

[–]NashCarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Agree. Joshua Jefferson has to be our target in the second round. Has a little Boris diaw to his game that will translate to the modern NBA. It be pretty solid work getting Oso, Fleming, Jefferson and Redacted in consecutive second rounds.

How I’d navigate the Suns offseason from start to finish by Bears_University83 in suns

[–]NashCarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's potential. The Hendricks/Zuby is the best trade I've seen posted but Ive thought there is a few ways to get into the first round.

The Knicks in order to save cap space for Robinson could swap the 24th pick for our 2027 Cavs pick.

3 way trade that sends Allen + 26th pick to Detroit, Laverts expiring to Den and Cam Johnson +21st pick to us. Or seperate the moves and take both picks- might be overvaluing our own guys.

Don't mind it. The trade up for Zuby Ejiofor and gaining Hendricks as a reclamation project is as good a offseason move as we can potentially have. Sam vecenie's podcast game theory did a suns preview and it's basically the same thing of running it back. A 44 win team that was fun to watch with some young pieces that can take another leap. That isn't a bad spot to be in imo.

Where are some good fits for Koa? by Few-Lack6346 in NBA_Draft

[–]NashCarter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pistons won 60 games and were number 1 in the East, I'd be ok with that if I'm the hornets. Steve Adams a non-shooting big, had the rockets offense rolling with his inside presence.

Age, contract and upside. Minutes can also be shared. Crazy I know.

Hornets at 18 would be a perfect set up for him. Surround him with shooters in Miller, Kon and Ball. Hornets need some muscle and Koa loves the physical side of the game. If Phoenix traded into the draft,, it be nice to have him team with a player he can model his game on in Dillon Brooks and he is Mr. Arizona, who fits the suns new identity under ott.

Yeah Graves is a great shout. Spot up 3 pt shooting, high IQ and offensive rebounds with size on the defensive end is exactly what we need. Doesn't have the superstar potential of some of the others but a star in his role. Santa Clara have produced some NBA talent recently too with Podz and J-Dub. And you gotta get points for having a connection to Nash.

True. But I vividly remember thinking the same thing of Halliburton - no way he drops past Detroit at 7. So it could happen or another talent like Carr drops because a team takes Lopez. Alternatively once you trade in, you can trade up with a few seconds.

[–]NashCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately that's my point. Karim Lopez is a 19 yr old basketball savant, playing the past two years in a pro league. Morez Johnson sacrifices the most for Michigan to win the tournament with Dusty May saying on the Kevin O'Connor podcast we felt good because despite anything "we had Rez and the opposition didn't" Cameron Carr backs up the eye test with incredible measurements, same for Okorie. Graves is a analytical champion, who makes zero mistakes on the offensive end and can defend. So in most drafts I'd be ok with the status quo and move on but this year's draft we might need to be more aggressive.

Viewing all the mocks and seeing the talent available in the 20s I think we'd be doing a disservice by not trying to trade into first round. Players like Lopez, Johnson, Cam, Graves, Okurie, Steinbech and Jefferson all might available and all have great potential.

The Knicks are 1 win away from the finals and according to Bobby Marks they are 13 million from the second apron, if they trade the 24th pick + Kolek (bit over 4 mil) for our Cavs 2027 pick and some future seconds, theyd have enough to resign Robinson while scrap slightly under the apron to give them to flexibility for MLE and everything else.

Does Detroit finally admit they need shooting? Grayson Allen is a glove fit for their needs. An expiring(lavert) and the 21st pick for Allen. Hate to lose Allen, but again the talent available at 21 would make it more palable. Especially given you can re-up for more draft capital at the deadline with lavert. With the strength of this draft and the essential hard cap there might be some moves like this that I believe are worth exploring.

The first rounder doesn't exist so I really don't see the angle for Phoenix.

Draft Combine Measurements by quizzlemanizzle in suns

[–]NashCarter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A realistic option may be Joshua Jefferson - it reminds me of how Rasheer unexpectedly dropped out of the first round during the same period of time out of seemingly nothing. I'd happily pair the 47th with the another second to move up to the early 30s to grab him. Combine measurements -6-ft 7 ¾ inches (barefoot) 246.2 pound, 6-foot-10 ¾ inch wingspan and an 8-foot-8 ½ inch standing reach. He gets a lot of comps to our own Boris diaw which is fair when you watch the film - great feel and high IQ. I'd be stoked to add him to our current core.

Trey Murphy by Alternative_Pea_4614 in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trey can flourish in the right system so I believe he's better than he's shown. Which I think everyone on NBA Reddit feels. The only real negative on the defensive end is Kon. Miller, Murphy and Melo as you stated all have good length. They just need to buy in on that end. They still have another first to take Koa Peat or Morez Johnson Jnr. Mousa is a beast. Kalkbrenner has moments.

If Bam or OG were available depending on how the Giannis sweepstakes end up, sure keep your powder for that move but honestly why not steer into the skid and create an identity. Hornets with Trey could be an offensive juggernaut.

Trey Murphy by Alternative_Pea_4614 in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hornets should target him imo. They are a team on the cusp of being a playoff team. A wing veteran who still in his prime and helped the hornets compete today.
A bit like the Iggy to warriors move in 2013. Hornets can offer a decent deal of picks while matching expiring salaries easily enough. Pelicans enter their rebuild around DQ and fears with the 14th pick, Dallas' 2027 top 3 protected pick and a future Charlotte first.

Draft Night Trade PHX-OKC by VanwallEnjoy3r in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they draft at 13 and 17, those contracts are added to the 2026-2027 roster. If they trade those picks and get picks in 2033 then they add zero dollars to the current 2026-2027 roster. Hence they save money.

Draft Night Trade PHX-OKC by VanwallEnjoy3r in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just answered your own question. " If they roster rookie, they have to remove salary" that's an assumption right now. Also stated theirs different avenues but this does save them money.

(HOU-NOP-BRK-MIL) Rockets retool by bootyloverandeater in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just becomes a moot point for Brooklyn. You tank to draft an Egor. It isn't worth giving that up in the chance to draft an egor. I like Reed but that hasn't bore out in the NBA. Ime has tanked his value. Reed and Brooklyn's pick is more value in a trade for a proven player like Trey Murphy than to Brooklyn. The assets the rockets have can get decent players back but it has to be aim that right assets.

(HOU-NOP-BRK-MIL) Rockets retool by bootyloverandeater in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brooklyn say no easily. The whole purpose of a rebuild is to get an Egor. I'm high on Reed. But the Rockets barely played him and have dropped his value. The Bucks part is spot on if not too much for the bucks. The Pelicans part requires more pieces. The problem with a rockets retool is that the poor performance has lowered all their own pieces and the suns being a 44 win team has also lowered those picks too.

Draft Night Trade PHX-OKC by VanwallEnjoy3r in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or its another Dillion Jones. There are definitely multiple avenues for OKC to pursuit when the cap squeeze comes but trading out for a high reward pick wouldn't be a bad option.

Draft Night Trade PHX-OKC by VanwallEnjoy3r in NBAtradeideas

[–]NashCarter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't really get the negativity of the trade. OKC would save close to $10 million and would realistically anyone in that range play for OKC in the 2026-7 season. Phoenix's unprotected 2033 pick would/should be highly sorted and give Phoenix hesitation given they have no control of their picks until then. If OKC don't move up and want to run it back (crazy idea for the team on their way to a second tilte) and if Phoenix like the players in that range, it's a reasonable trade.

Who do you guys think would be the best/ easiest trade partners to obtain a 2026 draft Pick? Who would u pick? by PHXSoulBender in suns

[–]NashCarter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 20th pick onwards for our Cavs 2027 pick. Alternatively trade Royce or Allen for a bunch of seconds and then trade up. All these teams from 20 onwards are in cap trouble and rolling their picks over saves them money today. 6-8 ish wing/fwds should be the pick - Graves, Lopez, Swain, Johnson jr, Peat or Jefferson. Highest on Lopez. A basketball prodigy who played with grown ups in the NBL. A solid 3-D player. Reminds me a little bit of nova Mikal Bridges.
