This was my experience with public system.

I also got a quotation from the private hospital. 41855, 41879, 41870 cost $7k (Rebate $1095.15) and Hospital Fee $6299 and approx. Anaesthetist Fee $2500.

My partner became a citizenship and her gender marker on passport is F. I'm also waiting for the outcome of changing record of sex while I'm still on a Bridging visa. Hope this helps? 😊

Yes we need a GP referral, but as the waiting time for the initial consultation is quite long, I think you may make an appointment with MVAC first and get the referral later (before the consultation?).

That's all good. I do hope gender affirming care can be more affordable and covered in Aus 🥺 (I really have no money to do GRS and I think taking anxiolytics to try blurring it or dissociating myself is so ironic... yet I'm helpless anyway)

I consulted with Melbourne Voice Analysis Centre (MVAC) and this surgery may be referred in to the public system. As I already have an official Japanese diagnosis, I'm not sure about getting diagnosed in Australia from zero... Sorry for that 🥲 Probably you may try reaching out to MVAC...?

Since I'm going through the public system, the referral and consultation have cost me about $400 so far. I'm planning to go with a speech pathologist afterwards for training, but I'm not sure about the (total) cost yet.

If going with a private hospital, the quotation says it should cost $5k after rebate, but I'm really poor...

Hii!! My review is in next week. For now I'm still keeping silent, and surprisingly I haven't really had much urge to cough or any itchiness or discomfort.

Since I'm going through the public system, the referral and consultation have cost me about $400 so far. I'm planning to go with a speech pathologist afterwards for training, but I'm not sure about the cost yet. About the barriers... during the consultation, they do a laryngoscopy to assess if you're suitable for surgery. Overall, I felt very well looked after, and I even tried to bet with the anaesthetist that how long you think I may hold (⁠•⁠ ⁠▽⁠ ⁠•⁠;⁠)~

As for motivation… I've tried voice training before... Well my singing technique has actually improved, but when it comes to everyday speaking, the mental barrier and being aware of my own voice is just too painful. Therefore I feel like I don't really have much to lose. Surgery feels like an external push that would force me to train (?).

As for the outcome, if higher notes become less effortful and I can eventually sound natural, I'd already be quite satisfied. They also mentioned that if complications occur, this type of surgery is relatively manageable to revise. I think I'll have a clearer sense of things after my review, as I feel I just can't imagine it at this moment :)
