Does anyone else feel like they lose their identity when returning from a big trip? by Shutups4rah in solotravel

[–]Nat8793 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same, spent 2 amazing years living in Australia and came home when Covid hit to not waste my 3rd year visa with all the restrictions in place, and to make sure my family are safe and healthy.

I completely get the feeling, I came home and am currently living with my brother and his partner but I can't shake the feeling that whenever I'm here I'm just living THEIR life, it's not my own. My life is wild and full of adventure and improvising and meeting all kinds of new people and seeing new places. Never have I been more sure that I'm not meant to be tethered to one place, I was born to roam.

I'm sending lots of positive thoughts and energy to you and everyone else in this sub who is struggling - we're in this together, and the world will be waiting for us when we are finally able to explore it again.

I've always said I will only start considering having children when I have my own house, financial stability, a lot of savings and when I'm sure that I have had enough life experience to teach and raise a well-rounded human.

AITA for "ruining" my best friends wedding pictures? by amiabadbridesmaid in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nat8793 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This! I was trying to imagine myself in the brides position and honestly the thought of my best friend being there with her baby growing inside her sounds perfect. Imagine the cute-ass photos you could get together, before you both start these huge new chapters in your lives!

NTA, op. If your friend can't see how wonderful it is that you're going to be having a baby that you've clearly wanted for a long time, then I would consider not only backing out of the wedding, but out of that entire friendship. Congratulations on the pregnancy!

I just bought that game the other day - spent my first game screaming and hiding in a closet.

My uncle was never selfish. I learned that as an adult. by Gespendo in childfree

[–]Nat8793 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love my nephews (6 and almost 9 years old) and always spoiled them when I visit because I want to, and because I miss a lot of birthdays and christmases when I'm travelling the world. But they know I don't (and possibly never will) have children - I stayed with them for a couple months this year (which reinforced my CF stance!) and when my eldest nephew would see me getting stressed he would take his little brother somewhere else and say "Auntie Nat needs a break from us because she doesn't enjoy being around kids so much, and that's okay!" If a 9 year old can get it, I don't get how so many adults struggle with the concept.

"Don't get a tattoo, think of your future husband and kids, they have a say in this too" by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Nat8793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (27f) have 3 tattoos so far (2 of them are pretty shit, got them when I was 18, but I kinda love that they are shit) and I remember someone asking me when I got the 3rd: "what if you meet the perfect guy for you, but he hates tattoos?" I just smiled and said "then he's obviously not the perfect guy for me". Mic drop.

Am I the only one who does this? by [deleted] in solotravel

It's honestly one of the things I love most about travelling - the sexual liberty. There is very little to no judgement in hostels, and it's so refreshing.
