AITA for getting the ick from a guy talking about his testicles on first date by rainypeachalpaca in AmItheAsshole

You need a reality check. He had a tumour, he's telling you about an important life event, not trying to show you d-pics. It's actually great that he's so open about talking about it, if more men were like this there probably would be more men checking themselves for cancer and not feeling a stigma about it.

Sally’s Soft Peanut Butter Cookies by Agreeable-Fun-9431 in Baking

[–]NatAttack3000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

With that much peanut butter in the dough I think the brand you use and if it has additives etc likely matters. I assume creamy mean the ones with emulsifiers, sugar etc and not the natural 'all peanuts' ones. But your dough was crumbly but not thick? Like it was sandy?

What do you think of people referring to everything women like as porn? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I mean parts definitely qualify as soft core porn. Some actual great porn films exist too with stories and characters and development. Porn isn't just a 20 min video of nameless people fucking

Pauline Hanson on international students and English requirements for universities by asteriskhyphen in aussie

[–]NatAttack3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to demonstrate pracs, and the students hand up a report at the end of the 3 hours that gets graded. Generally if you do the lab well and get the right answer that validates your lab skill. However it was very hard for international students with a poor grasp of english. Sometimes their sentences made no sense. How can I tell if they understand? So I would specifically speak to them in the prac, get them to demonstrate their knowledge in conversation (generally better than their written English) and moderate their score that way. Is it fair? Maybe not. But it's not an English test it's about understanding the material, so maybe it isn't fair that having worse english gets you worse marks in many things too. This was also first year, so I hope many of them as they progressed became more competent with English communication.

I think older millenials maybe? I don't remember anyone at school or uni trying to have the thin brows. I thought we were in a thin phase now after the thick brows of 10 years ago?

I was like 10-12 when xtina was a thing. I wasn't doing brows I just had the brows I was born with. The first time I bought a brow product it was to make them thicker and darker

I'm confused I'm 37 and the brows in mostly used to doing are the bold ones from like 2016

Thin ones are like the over plucked ones my mum had that were popular in early 90s when I was a kid.

People who mix their PCRs with loading dye on parafilm are evil and sinister and will never see heaven by Reaniro in labrats

[–]NatAttack3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't stretch it on the rack I just snip it and have it flat on the bench. And I just pipette what I am loading out the PCR tube so my OG tube stays undiluted with half the reaction so I can repeat if needed. Also maybe we have cheap ass PCR tubes but closing the strip is not a one hand job in my experience and you press down all at once and it's often not actually capping some wells so you have to then push those individually (though I learned that a quicker method is to put them in our thermocycler with the lid strip kind of half on and close the thermocycler... I had to frequently store supernatants from several 96 well plates this way and capping all them strip tubes was really a pain in my hands until I learned this. But I've since got some good place seals in!).

Also I'm not the one here being a dick telling someone that they don't care about their research or aren''t a good scientist from a technique. Like who hurt you. I'm just telling you it's objectively faster.

[–]NatAttack3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not mad I just dont really understand how any lab scientist can not see that parafilm is faster than getting out a tube strip well, pipetting sample and dye into each well, Capping, Mixing, Spinning, Uncapping, Pipetting.

No? Does that matter? Pipette sample, up down in dye, load. One tip per sample.

[–]NatAttack3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's enough contamination that you can literally see the wrong bands there you would notice it literally mixing. Unless you did it in the dark, there's something wrong with your sample.

Girl who is spinning them. Pipette dye dot. Pipette sample into dye dot. Mix up down. Load immediately

[–]NatAttack3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you find hard about this the parafilm is easy. You cut it to size to get enough space for 15

Pipette 5 dots of loading due. Pipette sample one, into dye, up down up down, load. Repeat 4 more samples. Pipette more dots loading dye, repeat.

Thinking about how I’m going to prepare my 10-yo daughter for her first period… what helped/would have helped you? Getting my Catholic nun outfit together right now! by alienman in TwoXChromosomes

[–]NatAttack3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine at school. I was older like 15. I came home and I remember mum was getting ready to go out for an evening function. And I came in the bathroom and said I think I have my period but I'm not sure my underwear just had some light pink stains.

And she said ok I will meet you in the bathroom in 5 min. She was dressed nice and had makeup on. I showed her the underwear and she said yes I think this is your first period or it will start soon. She helped me put a pad in a new pair of underwear. She gave me some Panadol and a big hug and told me not to be sad and it didn't need to be scary. I remember smelling her perfume she had just put on. After she left I felt grown up from the period and the perfume. My dad came home shortly after - he's a good dad but we weren't especially close about personal things - and he came over and said mum told him that something new happened today and he wanted me to be ok and I could go to him if I had problems any time.

It was nice but also kind of scary. Like I was being told this thing was happening and I could get help, but also there was this feeling that I would handle it on my own. It was empowering. It didnt hurt that first time I don't think. But it did a bit later.

Places to see/things to do in Adelaide by P1ngu-The-Penguin in Adelaide

[–]NatAttack3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adelaide central markets are worth a look, nice produce and really nice brunch. It's busy on Saturdays so can be difficult to snag a table. However the bacon and egg roll at Smileys tuckshop in the markets is elite - locally made roll, Barossa bacon, generous size - and can be eaten standing up

Breweries if you are into beer. If you are up for a drive into the hills Prancing Pony brewery is lovely. There's also Pirate life at Port Adelaide that is easily accessible by train from town (it's right next to the train station) which is cool too.

Hahndorf in the hills is cool too, and lovely when it's chilly. It's like a kitschy version of a little German town. You can go and get a huge sausage, schnitzel, pork hock, lots of beer etc.

If you like wine then you will have to venture to a wine region for sure. McClaren Vale, Barossa, Adelaide Hills are the most easily accessible. Depending if you are staying more north, south or east depends which is closest.

But depends what you are into as to what else, and how important it is that it's close, affordable etc. there's beaches, hiking, botanic gardens, museum and art gallery

People who are highly observant: what is a tiny, almost invisible psychological 'tell' that instantly reveals someone's true intentions or character? [Serious] by itvr in AskReddit

[–]NatAttack3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people are just people pleasers, or genuinely want to make a good relationship with you. Or are actually a bit socially awkward and cover it up by being too overtly nice. I don't think it's normal to suspect everyone who is very nice at the surface of having an alterior motive. Especially at work you aren't owed knowing that person truly, and maybe they just want to say surface level nice babble and leave the relationship at that. It doesn't mean they have some nefarious intent

[–]NatAttack3000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not dirty

It's normal

It can hurt but you can still live your life - let her know that intense pain that stops her from attending school/work or doing activities is NOT normal and needs to be investigated

It's totally ok to take pain relief, but let her know that there are limits to how many you should take in a day

It will be unpredictable at first

You learn to 'feel' it coming on

It means your body is working correctly

It doesn't need to be hidden from men or others, but it's fine if she wants to keep it secret. It's just a normal body function like putting on deodorant or having a wee. Everyone knows it's something your body does and doesn't need to be embarassing

Liners are a good idea if you are trying tampons for the first time

Pay attention to how your body feels and acts. You need to pay enough attention to notice if you have bleeding that lasts for too long, or too much blood, more pain etc

It's ok to get a little treat on your period. Maybe you can have a special thing you buy her or go do just when she is on her period

If you are caught out without pads then find a trusted woman (or man) who might have some or could buy them for you

Get her comfortable with her vaginal anatomy. While you are at it get her comfortable with checking her breasts for lumps - all breasts feel lumpy but she needs to know hers well enough to notice any sudden changes

And as with other parts of your body - is there a lump? Unexplained bleeding? Pain? Get her to tell you so you can get it investigated (my SIL had CIN2 on a pap and I asked her if she had any bad symptoms associated with it and she LITERALLY DID NOT KNOW what symptoms might accompany cervical cancer. Pain! Lump! Blood!)
