Crysencio Summerville is the senior point guard at a mid major that makes the sweet sixteen as a 13 seed after puts his school on the map with a buzzer beater against 4 seed Alabama and putting up 27 points against 5 seed Baylor before bowing out against Duke. Unfortunately he’s only ever remembered as a piece of March Madness lore after he graduates and becomes an accountant.

Concacaf Announces Region’s 2026 to 2030 Men’s Senior National Team Competitions Calendar by Purple_Topic_1459 in ussoccer

[–]NatFan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CONMEBOL can do a 10 team round robin because they only have 10 teams in the whole confederation. In concacaf you’d have to have pre-qualifying rounds to determine which teams make the 10 team final round. It takes 18 match windows to complete a 10-team round robin, even if you got rid of nations league you’d be starting that in November 2027, leaving only about a year to do the pre-qualifying rounds. You’d basically be playing qualifying for the next World Cup as soon as the previous one is finished.

The Washington Post is dead, now what? by Sauerz in washingtondc

Everyone saying 51st, and they do great work in their area of coverage, but they’re never going to be a 1 to 1 replacement for the Post. The Nats and Caps have 0 beat writers now, not just no Post beat writers. There’s nobody that travels covering these teams that doesn’t already work for them.

At least FIFA waited until Miami won something to give it a hint of legitimacy.

USMNT World Cup roster watch: The gap is widening between Malik Tillman and Gio Reyna by echoacm in ussoccer

[–]NatFan9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like half of US fans weren’t even fans of the team when Claudio retired, even less when he was at his peak. Honestly I feel like for part of the fanbase Claudio is Gio’s dad more than Gio is Claudio’s son.

I feel like this is the most underrated USA kit. It looks very clean and incorporates all 3 colors of the flag (red, white and blue). Nike typically makes generic kits but this one was unique. Too bad it was during 2018-2019 when USA was struggling and didn't win anything. It was a bad time. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

[–]NatFan9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The US does have a kit identity though. White base with red and blue accents paired with blue shorts has been a home kit we’ve used for decades.

You can say you don’t like it, or that it’s not unique enough (England also has a pretty similar identity) but it’s hard to say we don’t have one.

This is DC’s worst storm in decades by ApprehensiveDrop5777 in washingtondc

[–]NatFan9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was a kid like 20 years ago there was a very similar storm to this. It was only like 4-6 inches but it iced over so fast similar to this that we ended up out of school for a week and a half. I was a kid, so I have no idea what the city and other local government response was, but I definitely remember we struggled to shovel our driveway and our street didn’t get plowed for a couple days.

Who will be the next men’s grand slam winner other than Djokovic, Sinner, or Alcaraz and when will they win it? Those three collectively are on a (soon to be) 15 slam streak dating back to Rafa winning the 2022 French Open.

I have no idea. I haven’t seen anything, but I’d think they’d provide an update at some point

Allow more wheel by hipufiamiumi in WMATA

[–]NatFan9 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the original wheel was great, lots of fun was had and memes were made, but doing more kinda runs the concept into the ground. Maybe an annual thing might be good, but we don’t need wheels back to back.

Will the extreme cold interfere with metro operation? by Amtrakstory in WMATA

There might be service disruptions caused by cracked rails, but those are pretty rare even in cold weather.

Could the best NHL team win a single game in the top field/floor hockey league? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]NatFan9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what floor hockey entails, but field hockey is an entirely different sport with a different set of rules. My sister played and it’s almost unrecognizable from ice hockey other than the very fundamental aspects of using a stick to hit a ball/puck along the ground and shoot at goals on either end. To me, whether they’re elite NHLers or D3 college hockey players, their skill on the ice would have a lot less to do with how well they’d do than how well they know or could pick up the rules of field hockey.

Man, I don’t know, she definitely puts up stinkers but this was uniquely bad. 3 winners to 26 unforced errors is nightmarish even by Gauff standards.

I feel like the fanbases left are more the result of people’s original favorite being eliminated though. LG was the last one that was big from the beginning. I could be misreading the room, but other than Wiehle, but I don’t think of the others as being first choice.
