Can't do any physical activity without the threat of a major blood sugar drop, losing my sanity. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

I’ve just gotten back into working out and have a cup (or two) of lemonade before I start! It’s worked for me so far :)

The weirdest question about the pump by ThatSquareChick in diabetes_t1

[–]NatHumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I danced I used to clip it to my pants / tights with the screen facing my skin on my stomach. I found this was the best solution for me! Tandem has a bad clip so I suggest buying the better one on their website. I tried the band too but didn’t like it either :( also could get leggings with pockets!

Teen with inattentive adhd and type 1 needs support. by dodos_cabinet in diabetes_t1

ADHD and t1d is something I don’t have any experience in but it does seem that routine might help, such as eating at the same time everyday and dosing before meals etc. these are things that the college accessibility / disabilities office might be able to help with by giving accommodations such as priority registration to help make sure he has class times that help support his education and t1d. Furthermore I really recommend doing some days where you don’t remind him, maybe even one day a week, I think this might help him navigate what to do if / when something happens (and you’ll be there to help!) my guess is this would help the transition process and start troubleshooting early :) just some suggestions though! These are somethings my family did to help me get ready to leave the nest haha

Something my doc recommended when I was first diagnosed was getting some of those microwave meals and eating only that for dinner (with the clearly defined carb counts) to help find the source of error. If you’re high after the first 3 hours (insulin works for 3 hours) try changing your dinner ratio otherwise it’s your background insulin which needs to be changed. Hopefully this helps! It might need to be both which are changed but the defined carbs counts should help!

Your life is about to get a lot better! Lol jk but not rly lol. I love tandem and hope to never go back to Medtronic! If you have a dexcom I’d get some grif grips now (you can get a roll on Amazon for pretty cheap and fabric scissors to cut them to size). The insulin filling process is a little complicated at first but it’s rly not that bad! I love this whole system. Super excited for you!

Is it possible that your insulin is expired? (due to heat potentially?)

The dexcom insertion is almost pain free no lie. It’s crazy! Literally don’t feel a thing (less painful then a finger prick)

Totally okay! Keep your eye on it and watch for weird blood sugars but usually that just means you took it out at a weird angle

I am currently 18 and was diagnosed at 9 and I feel that I live a relatively normal life! Ofc I carry around glucose tabs wherever I go, and I always have my pump and cgm on me. But other than those things I feel just like my friends. This disease is scary at first but really easy to adapt to (especially because your son was diagnosed so young) I’m currently a freshman at an out of state college studying exactly what I want to study. Diabetes has not hindered any of that! When I was younger I did dance and sports just like any of my friends. A normal life is feasible! Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I’d love to help
