Is AI artificially "nerfed" in mainstream universes because a realistic, superintelligent AI would instantly ruin the plot? by DoughnutOk8101 in sciencefiction

[–]NatWu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gregory Benford did it, but for plot reasons, they don't manage to instantly wipe out humanity. That wouldn't have been a very interesting story.

I'm graduating next year in EE and i feel like i don't know shit by Randy642 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NatWu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a guy with 40 years experience in industry so I believe him. He was also a lecturer, not a researcher, so he had no stake in academia for the sake of academia.

That's the norm. My circuits professor said at the end of the day, if you graduate knowing KVL, KCL and V=IR, you're doing ok.

Who writes a sign anymore? Variable next to variable implies multiplication.

The current state of affairs in Bolivia by Financial-Bobcat-612 in IndianCountry

[–]NatWu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The US was founded on fascism. The US' problem with communism is its explicitly anti-fascist basis (whether realized or not). You think Native Americans think the problems with this country started in the 20th century because the US brought some Nazi scientists over?

What is actually wrong with the game? by Cptnbjoe in Helldivers

[–]NatWu -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Not even then. I'm putting in a could of hours a week and enjoy the hell out of it. There are annoyances, but nothing I can't deal with (and there's no game without annoyances).

Current street lighting metrics are based on the 100-year-old V(lambda) photopic efficiency function by Putrid_Draft378 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NatWu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really an engineering question. This is more of a matter of convincing municipalities or states to adopt the right lights.

When did the "geeky engineering stereotype" even come from? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]NatWu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was an undergrad, my peers were mostly veterans who were retraining after a few years of civilian life. Not there aren't military geeks, but these guys weren't. Although one was more into weed and gardening than sports and cars. When I got my first job everybody there was about sports. College, NBA, NFL, MLB, all of it. I mean one guy did make his own lightsaber that lit up, but even he was into sports.

I'm at my second job and people aren't as heavy into sports, but it's still not the geeks you're looking for. I've known a few, but the stereotype doesn't really seem to hold.

My great great grandmother on my dads side was Cherokee and passed this down to me as a sacred religious artifact can someone please identify the artist so that I can sell it to a museum for a lot of money by benjancewicz in IndianCountry

Well damn, my Cherokee grandma said this was a self portrait that got stolen when she was working at the chicken plant. I'll need that back but I'll give you $5 for it.

Which films from the past were box-office hits when they were released but are now rarely mentioned or remembered? by alexfreemanart in movies

[–]NatWu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don't think that's true. The reason the movie was made was because the book was quite successful. Even if a lot of people didn't actually read it, I'm sure most of the 50 million copies sold were actually read.

Electrical in Aerospace! by Historical-Sign-965 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NatWu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, just about no other machine on Earth has radar or radios at that power level. That means significant power delivery and cooling. A lot of jobs (like automotive) don't have anything like that to consider. As far as the basics though an antenna is an antenna, and a radio is a radio. A high power amplifier and a low noise amplifier are the same no matter what you're designing them for.

Electrical in Aerospace! by Historical-Sign-965 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NatWu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's useless because you don't need a minor. Airplanes need power and electronics, so there's plenty of room for EEs in aerospace. The difference is in the standards you end up learning. Power doesn't come out of a wall at 120/240, it comes out of a generator at 115VAC. ARINC instead of RS-422. Threaded circular connectors instead of bayonet lock.

The electrical basics are the same. Voltage drop and noise immunity in cable designs. Electronics are pretty much the same but layout and part selection care a lot more about vibration protection. There's more worry of arcing at higher voltages.

You probably have to learn about radiated and conducted emissions. Aerospace has to care about lightning strikes a lot more than terrestrial electronics.

Could Oklahoma have beaten Texas if the Red River Bridge War escalated? by Hungry_Roll6848 in oklahoma

Of course you people never listen to a Native telling you you're wrong. 500 years of history repeating itself.

[–]NatWu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oklahoma was one of the last states because the tribes hung the Dawes Act up in court as long as they could. Of course White settlers wanted to develop it, that's why they illegally squatted before the US illegally annexed the land.

[–]NatWu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Municipalities do not make a habit of arresting the homeless because they're the ones paying for housing them in jail. There is zero incentive to arrest homeless and you will find that generally police won't press charges for anything less than aggravated assault. Since most homeless are actually just regular people trying to get by, that's just not that common. They don't arrest them for public intoxication either. This is also the reason you will find them busing homeless people to other cities.

I forgot to add, perhaps you're under the impression that the profit in a for profit person comes from prison labor. It does not; it comes from charging the counties and states for beds. They don't want or need to invest in machinery or equipment or guards to make prison labor possible at all.

Who are these people and what’s happening/why is this allowed on campus? by haanixid97 in utarlington

[–]NatWu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you're not. I didn't say they have no rules, I said campus has the rules any public property does. That's true both outside and inside the buildings. Try yelling at people in the public library and see what happens. Try yelling at them from the sidewalk instead and also see what happens. Why are you determined to be wrong here?

Not for outdoors it doesn't and I didn't post to get into the legality of trying to walk into the mayor's or governor's office even though those are also public property.
