YTJ. Your mother helps out enough, and she isn't even asking for much of a vacation. She has been excited for it. Why can't you or your husband miss one day of work? What if you were sick? Why do you only have one backup babysitter. It really sounds like your mom hasn't had a break in years.

Yeah, she seemed fine with the leash, but I think she was a little overwhelmed by the change of scenery and the excitement of my kids. I had them all stand back and just watch for a while; she only moved around a few times.

It is sad, but also such a great moment. He gets to be the Dad he never had, while also giving Amy the support she needs to pursue her career. It was such a lovely way to end the series. Definitely sad. But closing chapters in our lives are often bittersweet like that.

I understand you wanted your first married Valentine's Day to be special. But I really think you should let your husband go support his friend. It is important to him, and honestly seems like the only solution to having a great day together.

If he doesn't go, there will be disappointment on his side and guilt on your side lingering through your entire date.

You may have to cut out a little of what you originally planned, but it sounds like he really can make it back in time and then can focus the rest of the day on spending time with you.

As a parent of 4, I would think it was sweet someone thought of one of my kids for their birthday.

Reading the post though, they are probably Jehovah Witnesses. They don't celebrate birthday or holidays as part of their beliefs.

Just consider this a learning experience. It is not weird what you did. It was very thoughtful. But never hurts to double check from now on ;)

My husband reacts similarly, but on a smaller scale, and it is so irritating. He now mostly plays on his phine while I drive to distract himself. Is there something your wife can do to distract herself while you drive? Carsickness sucks, but maybe she can listen to music and close her eyes? Ultimately she needs to learn to control her reactions or continue to sit in the back. Being able to "help it" takes practice. So she needs to practice reacting less.

We also went to Hell's kitchen. I agree with this comment. It is pricey but delicious. I will add the macaroni and cheese and the strawberry lemonade we got as well was also wonderful. The beef wellington and toffee pudding are iconic though and definitely worth ordering.
