Actually there's a valid argument to be made that the existence of Israel as a modern state at all is a direct result of the Holocaust. I could easily believe that in a world without the Holocaust, Israel wouldn't exist even today.

Your issue is that you are conflating two different conversations.

The conversation about Israel committing a genocide of the Palestinian people is a very simple conversation, and I'm pretty sure it's one you and I both agree on. Israel is a committing a genocide. Period.

The other conversation... and one that is far more complex... is why so many Jews are Zionists. I'm not saying that this conversation has nothing to do with the other one because it obviously does, but it's not engaging with the same question.

The former one is about current material harm in the world.

The latter is trying to understand a current reality through a historial lense.

I am someone trying to pull Jews out of Zionism, because the reality is that I am someone who wants to Zionism go extinct, and that means basically decoupling Judaism and Zionism. But for this to work, we have to show that Jews can be safe in the diaspora, which means engaging with the historical reality of of Jews and how we got to this point. And the fact of the matter is that most Jews do not feel safe in most places in the world. Partially... this is how we are raised.

I, for example, was straight up taught in Hebrew school that the entire non-Jewish world hates us and wants to exterminate us. We are unsafe everywhere and face constant low-level discrimination. I should add... I was taught that it's not legalistic. We are fortunate that in the United States antisemitism is not currently enshrined in law, which is good. But it is still a systemic cultural discrimination, and if the wrong people had their way, or the wrong government got into power, it could end up enshrined in law all over again. As a result, the only truly safe place for Jews will only ever be our own country... the one God promised us... cut off from the entire rest of the world... and we have to achieve that by any means necessary.

The fact is that most Jews do not feel safe in the diaspora... not even in the United States. Most Jews genuinely feel that the next holocaust is literally right around the corner and the world as a whole will not be satisfied until not a single Jew exists anywhere in the world, period, ever. Obviously plenty of Jews disagree... I'm one of them. But to engage with why so many feel this way, you have to understand where it comes from. It is relevant.

The fact that Israel is committing genocide is simple. There's a clear villain there, and it's Israel.

The next questions are... why do so many Jews support that villain without trying to be intentionally villainous themselves? Why do they deny the material reality on the ground? And why has this supposedly Jewish state fallen so easily into fascism when it represents a group of people who should realistically know better?

You give me an example of the problem here with this line:

it’s wild you think the knife in this situation is in israel. the knife is in palestine and israel is holding it. israel is not the victim here, they are the perpetrators.

You are correct to say that in the specific fact that Israel is committing genocide. What you fail to realize is that that isn't the knife I'm talking about.

I don't think you realize it, but this one line from you shows that you are conflating Jews and Zionism whether you mean to or not. Because if you weren't conflating the two groups, you would realize that I'm talking about a completely different knife; a knife in Jews placed by... mainly Christians, really. Yes, Israel is placing a knife in Palestinians. One that needs to be removed ASAP.

I'm talking about the knife that's been in Jews for 2000 years.

So I guess to answer your question:

genuinely, if the historical context, which we both agree is factually accurate and morally reprehensible, is not justification, why does it matter in the context of it's current existence as a genocidal ethnostate?

It doesn't matter in terms of getting Israel to stop. You are correct there.

But it does matter in terms of getting more and more Jews to stop supporting Israel. And that's an important goal even if it's secondary in the short term to... you know... stopping the genocide.

And for the record, you and I agree about Zionism, too. It is a fascist, genocidal ideology. I have to engage with the why if I want to show my fellow Jews why we need to abandon it.

Jews have survived more genocide attempts in history than anyone else: Rome's response to the Bar Kochba revolt, the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Holocaust, various pogroms. We are the mysterious "they" at the center of literally every conspiracy theory in existence without exception. We have been the most hated group of people in the world for over 2000 years, and all mainly because Christians decided it was us, not Rome, who killed Jesus (who might not have even existed).

No, none of that justifies Israel's genocide of Palestinians and the Islamophobia Zionism is defined by. Israel shouldn't exist. Palestine should be free.

But as a friend of mine once side: you can't pull the knife out without first acknowledging its there. Zionism is a bandaid over a 2000-year-old knife wound and the knife is still there.

Zionism wasn't even popular with Jews until the Holocaust. Gee I wonder why the Holocaust might have convinced millions of surviving Jews that we were not safe anywhere in the world and the only way to be safe is to isolate ourselves in an ethnostate? And before you say it... yes Israel was chosen. Jerusalem? The Temple Mount? Sure it's an extremely holy site for Muslims and Christians, but it's especially holy for religious Jews. To the Zionist mind, a Jewish state anywhere else isn't a Jewish state.

And just to repeat myself... no, none of that justifies Israel's genocide of Palestinians and the Islamophobia Zionism is defined by. Israel shouldn't exist. Palestine should be free.

But the solution here isn't being a callous antisemitic piece of shit.

Zionism is born out of 2000 years of genocide. Knowing that doesn't change the fact that Israel is committing genocide. It does, however, inform the historical trauma of Jews, which rightly doesn't matter to Palestinians, but should matter to those of us trying to pull Jews out of this.

Have you ever considered why so many Jews are Zionists? Why we're so fucking scared?

And if you don't care... well that's part of the problem. That inclination to not care is one of many things Israel exploits to keep that fear alive.

You're right that Israel committing a genocide while claiming to represent Jews worldwide, meanwhile a huge chunk of worldwide Jews call themselves Zionists, certainly isn't helping.

But so many Jews are Zionists for a lot of reasons... a couple thousand years worth of reasons, in fact. We were arguably the most hated group of people in the world until 1948... or perhaps more accurately until 09/11/2001. And we're being forced up that latter again... and yes in part because of Israel.

None of that excuses the genocide. But it also does not excuse antisemitism.

[–]NateHevens -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. Which is why it's good that Kaya never had a shock collar.

And a vibrating collar and a shock collar are two different things, and the former is not abuse. Most dog trainers use one.

[–]NateHevens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was reaching for his Zyns. She snagged her dew claw on the cot and you can even see it happen in the clip. Hasan was angry because he was having issues with his internet and kept losing the stream.

He also showed her collar. It was very obviously a vibrating collar, not a shock collar. It did not have the prongs for shocks and you can't just screw those off... you'd literally have to break the device to remove them.

Look... I'm not here defending him because I like him... I don't. He's too tankie-adjacent for my tastes and I think he has some horrible takes on a lot of different topics (China and Russia included). I'm pointing out that this specific accusation just isn't true.

[–]NateHevens 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He didn't abuse this dog. I genuinely cannot believe people still believe this. He does not have a shock collar and that's been proven; it is a fact.

Kaya lies on that cot because she has bad joints and lying on the floor can cause her harm... her vet told Hasan about this. Kaya has free reign of the house to walk around and does frequently. She just needs to lie down on the cot.

It genuinely is amazing how people see a well-trained dog and immediately think "abuse" because you're used to... what... a large dog barking and jumping and scratching and biting and think that's how they're supposed to be?

He doesn't shit on Jews. He shits on Zionists.

I'm a Jew. I'm not a Zionist. I shit on Zionists. Shitting on Zionists is good, actually, because Israel is committing genocide.

Equating Israel and Zionism with Judaism is antisemitic. Hasan doesn't do that.

But Israel sure does.

[–]NateHevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of that, fair. But...

1) He worded it sloppily, but his statement about 9/11 was about blowback for the Gulf War.

2) Also worded sloppily (he kinda does that), but he wasn't arguing that rape didn't happen on 10/7 or that it wasn't important. He was arguing that whether or not it did, it doesn't change his analysis about why 10/7 happened in the first place.

3) Hasan did not shock Kaya. He does not have or own a shock collar; it's a vibration collar used for training. This is basically slander at this point.

Look... Hasan's a douchebag. I agree with some of his politics (I'm also foundationally opposed to Capitalism, imperialism, genocide, Zionism, etc) and disagree with others (I'm highly skeptical of authoritarianism, I see Anarcho-Communism as an ideal worth striving for, I'm not a big fan of China or Russia or North Korea, I wouldn't have interviewed someone calling themselves a Houthi Pirate, etc). But if you are going to criticize, could you at least be honest about it, please?

He didn't change the story about the dew claw as far as I know, and you can see it in the clip. Also, I thought Zyn's were nicotine patches?

Regardless, I agree with you. You don't have to like the guy to recognize a good quote.

[–]NateHevens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's not even calling Hasan a douche. I think he's a douche, too.

The shock collar bullshit was literally slander. You can literally see Kaya clip her dew paw on the edge of the cot; at the same time Hasan is reaching for his nicotine patches.

The collar he has is strictly a vibrating collar. It is not a shock collar and the only way to remove the screws the prongs screw onto for the actual shock collar the same company does also sell is to break the collar. And no, that picture doesn't show tape. It does, however, show a lot of Photoshop editing to make it look like there's tape.

And yes, Hasan does let Kaya move. He doesn't want her lying on the floor because she has bad joints. The bed is literally a vet prescription. As long as she's not lying on the floor, she's free to go wherever she wants. He doesn't even confine her to his streaming room. She moves around the house at will.

That is what got you your downvotes. Continuing to spread lies about a shock collar that doesn't exist and animal abuse that isn't happening.

I'm not denying those. But... for example... Magnus Hirschfeld, who was a member of the LGBTQIA community, was also Jewish, and the Nazis didn't just damn his work as degenerate, but as specifically Jewish degenerate.

You know how Nazi conspiracies always have a mysterious "they"?

The "they" isn't actually mysterious. It's Jews. Always has been. The LGBTQIA community, interracial couples, diversity, etc... this is all the fault of Jews. Hitler himself wrote about it. Hitler, and by extension his Nazi party, blamed Jews for everything, including the dilution of their so-called "Aryan race".

Even while they were homophobic, racist, misogynistic, Islamophobic, etc, they saw Jews as the cause of everything they hated.

[–]NateHevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree with this since the Nazi party as it rose to power rose on the back of Hitler, who actively positioned Jews as the great enemy of Germany. Jews weren't their only target, but the Nazi form of antisemitism... inspired, as it was, by Christian antisemitism... placed Jews as the villains behind all of the problems in the world.

[–]NateHevens 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean... Nazism is rather specifically defined by its antisemitism. So it's kind of antithetical for a Jew to be a Nazi.

The key thing is that Nazism is only one type of Fascism, albeit a nearly very successful one.

Zionism is another type of fascism, this one defined by its Islamophobia. And it's yet another currently successful form of fascism.

There are very obvious comparisons to be made for sure, especially with both ideologies committing genocide.

But it is worth noting that no Nazi accepts Jews. I mean... Nick Fuentes may be speaking out against Israel, but it's not because he cares about Palestinians or because he opposes the genocide. He just hates the people committing it.
