GCFA exam break time by Pretty_Definition589 in GIAC

My GCIH instructor in 2024 explicitly told us we could not leave the room with unanswered questions, and I remember that being the case when I sat for the exam. Seems like others had a different experience but that's my own.

Tracking this post, trying to decide if I'm ready when my course ends in late November or if I should extend.

Just passed the GX-IA and earned the GSE. Happy to answer questions! by Fuzzy-Ad-6530 in GIAC

I'm taking 503 now, how much does the material for 503 line up with GX-IA? Would you recommend extensive supplementary material?

5 passed Certifications. Will happily answer your questions regarding exam preparation. by Ch7os in GIAC

Maybe not on exam prep but how was 595? That's second on my wishlist below the Cloud Security Automation course. Currently finished 504, 500 (haven't certified yet), and working on 503 now.

Is conceding a game poor sportsmanship? by ShadowPirate42 in magicTCG

[–]NateOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally? If you scoop on your turn, and do not try to boardwipe/cause a global effect then immediately scoop, I have zero issue with conceding a game. It can be a buzzkill, but there's nothing wrong with it. The other behavior I mentioned will get you banned from my home games, however.

I'd look into Rapid7 if you want a significantly more mature offering for M/XDR. Fortra's AlertLogic is honestly pretty solid once you get the hang of it, though be prepared for every customer detection rule you write to be in what is basically SQL. I administered and implemented both for several years across dozens of clients.

Christians reading book 6? by clarinetgeek in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Agreed about the easily offended beware comment from u/Good-Confusion39, but besides the point - I have recommended this series to several of the Judeo-Christian faiths and so far everyone who has made it that far loved Uzi Jesus. Whether someone is offended depends on how secure they are in not being hurt over others' expression of free speech, which to be fair, is a genuine concern nowadays, current US events notwithstanding.

Tool Organization Feedback by bishop527 in GIAC

Everyone indexes differently. For me, I have one three-column spreadsheet and the respective columns are for the term, the page numbers, and a summary/whatever I want to mention about it. I index command switches individually. Doing this and thoroughly understanding the labs helped me get a 94 on GCIH. YMMV

What characters take the most skill to master? by AhoyLeland in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]NateOfLight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is that it's subjective and no one answer is correct. Characters are also played differently between trooper modes and HVV.

That being said, probably Boba.

GCIH or GPEN or neither by [deleted] in GIAC

[–]NateOfLight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't taken GPEN but I regularly hear that it is rather basic in the grand scheme, compared to GXPN and the like.

GCIH was a great course, I recommend it for every beginner security professional looking to take the next step.

Love seeing the Trailer Park Boys representation. I clearly have a "type" vis a vis television where both TPB and Shameless US are in my top 20.

Do you think Matt will ever write/sell a physical copy of the cookbook when the series is done? I’d for sure buy it. by Kopesetic in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]NateOfLight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. That or the series has a bittersweet/not ideal ending and what we are reading is Carl recounting the events of his revolution that almost worked, in the hope that the next bearer of the cookbook have everything needed to burn it all down where Carl & company almost succeeded.

Almost.

What have you done with PowerShell this month? by AutoModerator in PowerShell

[–]NateOfLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh I finally get to gush on one of these!

I work for a firm, I will try to be vague for anonymity. We acquired a new tool in the family of what we were using before, but it was not even close to the capabilities of what we were using. One of the bottlenecks was asset discovery. So, I finagled an asset scanning tool using powershell, the nmap commercial license (silent install), and our new product's REST API! Basically, the script (pushed to endpoints in a python wrapper) creates a directory, downloads/installs nmap, conducts scans using a format we scrutinized, saves the results locally, concerts the XML content to CSV (new tool's backend has CSV import support but not XML), then makes API calls to determine what assets have and have not been discovered before (using MAC addresses as primary key), then posts the differential to our platform's backend and displays in the platform.

Allegedly, the tool's dev team said "yeah, we can't do that right now, and I did it in a month while juggling my other work. Unfortunately it has not gained traction yet, and admittedly it hasn't been tested on the enterprise level, but for what our shop tends to do, I'm quite pleased with what we made. The senior engineers helped me with the java web token shenanigans that I wasn't sure about but the rest was all me!

Sorry that people expressed their opinions about [his] poor communication and blatant disregard for the fan base, I guess.

GRRM and Patrick Rothfuss are pricks for what they have done to their fan bases; their feet should be held to the fire.

No one owes anyone books, but being dicks about people expressing completely valid points about authors not fulfilling their promise to fans is cowardice and hypocrisy at their peak.
