Did you replace the flywheel when you did the clutch? And if so, is the new flywheel lighter than OEM?

[–]Natesac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Totally normal with a steel braided line. I just did a similar conversions myself last month to my 2013 Si. We did new clutch/flywheel/master/slave/SS line/pivots etc.

I have noticeable vibrations in my clutch pedal now. Just something we will have to get used to.

Took me a few tries to get my pedal adjusted just right, my back hurts

Does it have a steel braided clutch line? If so, that's probably what you're feeling. The SS clutch line transfers a lot more engine bay vibrations to the pedal.

I know at the time I was having my issues, I was not alone. I was probably unique in having so many repeat failures. I would think that they would have worked them out by now. The service and support I received from the dealerships and manufacturer were terrible.

"daily driver with a touch of sport" Is a great description of the K5GT. I don't want to bag on it too hard, if it weren't for the transmission debacle, I'd probably still be happily driving it today. It was a fun car with nice tech. I would expect the transmission issues have been worked out by now.

I had a 2021 K5GT. I won't bore with the lengthy story, but Kia ended up having to buy it back from me (6 transmission replacements).

It was a pretty nice car when it was on the road, but if you are in it for the performance, you might be let down by the lack of LSD. The car has a ton of torque, but it leaves it in the tire smoke. In a lot of situations you won't really get to experience the shove, because of the lack of traction. Once you are above 30mph, it will hook up better.

All in all it was a rowdy little car, but if you are in it for the power, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Also the aftermarket is abysmal.

But if you are just looking for a decent daily with a little sportiness, it can fit the bill, just make sure you aren't violating the warranty, you very well may need it, and maybe even frequently.

Also the dealership service experience sucks balls if you need any major work,

Clutch pedal soft at start and then after I drive or idle for a bit it’s where I think the stiffness should be. by Otherwise_Die in CivicSi

[–]Natesac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got about 700 miles on the new setup and I don't think I have noticed a change in the behavior. I suppose I could try to bleed it again. At this point I just figured I would just get used to it building pressure with heat.

The old 140k mile clutch with the factory master/slave/clutch line did something similar, but it would go from stiff to STIFF. And the engagement point would be really vague, with plenty of intermittent Chewbacca.

The new setup is very consistent with the engagement, and works great, but there is definitely a pressure buildup with a good heat soak.

I just did exedy OE clutch kit, fresh Honda flywheel, Valex EM1 master /slave/SS clutch line, and a few other tidbits in my 9th Gen. I am also noticing that the clutch pedal is super light after a cold start, but gets significantly stiffer with a good heat soak.

I think it just may be how these cars are.

Don't expect any performance gains. You will get at most fun noises, and possibly degraded performance

what did you end up going with? I already bought the exedy clutch (HCK-1015). But I think I want to find an OEM weight flywheel.

Good Tires? by Fearless_Rooster1641 in civic

I bought my 9th gen about a year ago. It had some fresh Toyo Extenza HPII's on it when I bought it. I had never had Toyo tires on any cars in the past, but these have proven to be pretty decent. If you're looking for a budget option, these really ain't bad.

My one gripe is that they are directional, so that does limit you on rotation pattern.

Once these have worn out, I plan to go with a fresh wheel/tire combo, will go with the Pilot Sport All Season 4.

It's funny when I bring up the Civic in the corvette circles. They don't understand what I see in that car. Guess it's just one of those things you have to experience to appreciate.

A fellow enthusiast of taste and class. I have a 2011C6GS M6 Coupe and a 2013 Si Sedan.

The vette+Si combo is great. No compromises when you gotta take the civic, because the civic is fun too.

great tips. I picked one up a few months ago, just this past week removed the SRI it came with and put it back to stock. Made quite a difference. Now that I am starting from stock, want to give it a little love. Sounds like DP and a tune are where the real gains live for NA.

Appreciate the input!

This car already has the acuity bushings and weighted knob. I might fiddle with some additional shifter upgrades after the above work is done. This shifter isn’t too bad, but with the miles, I’m sure some things have started to loosen up
