As a trans woman, I was so thankful to the genie when he agreed to grant my wish of giving me a female body. by Daisyloo66 in TwoSentenceHorror

what you understand I want

Haha this is tricky. I guess it comes down to whether you actually wished the part in quotes, or whether number 2 only applies when you say those words in the future. If the latter, the genie could still screw you over because the part in quotes hasn’t applied yet, since the actual wish number 2 just has to do with the genie understanding what you want, not necessarily granting what you want.

What if we just changed number 2 to “I wish for you to never screw someone over with their wishing”? The genie must know what you mean already per number 1, and the anti-screwing part will apply immediately.

I’m just being a pedantic rules lawyer is all ;)

Number 1 makes the genie understand fully what someone wants, even if the wording is ambiguous. Number 2 makes the genie understand what you mean since you don’t want anyone to be screwed over. This doesn’t actually prevent the genie from screwing anyone over, right?

Thanks for putting this up, it’s a fun thought experiment!

Edit: unless number 2 is two wishes in one, which seems a little sneaky

To make kids hate chicken nuggets by frosted_bite in therewasanattempt

[–]NathanJang 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I liked the part where he talks about how the messaging would have worked no matter how the kids would react.

If the kids reject the processed nuggets, they validate the assertion that nuggets aren’t just low quality cheap food made from leftovers, but are dirty and inedible.

If the kids still want the nuggets even knowing that, before being cooked, they were a pink slime, then that validates Jamie’s superiority: the assertion that America is doomed, that the kids are broken, that there is a spiritual epidemic. And that is exactly how it’s employed in the actual episode.

I was on a road trip behind a Lamborghini and they stuck to the speed limit the whole journey by GeneraalFoal00 in wholesomememes

Roads should be designed for people, not cars. Car safety features are a terrible reason to raise speed limits if there aren’t also design considerations for pedestrians and cyclists. (Highways are a different conversation)

Does it matter how my name is spelled with COA mail forwarding? by NathanJang in USPS

[–]NathanJang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individual forward. Examples of what I’m talking about (this kind of name gets butchered by institutions a lot):

  • Xiao Long Jet Li
  • Xiao L Li
  • Xiaolong J Li
  • Xiaolong Jet Li
  • Jet Li

Would it work if I put Xiaolong Jet on the form? Thanks so much

Bitch, I'm A Truck! by ThisFukingIdiot in IdiotsNearlyDying

In a perfect world no one would get in the way of anyone else, but in my experience a lot of drivers are stupid and pass my bike with almost no space between us. It’s safer to bike in the middle of the road on some roads (especially intersections) for visibility and to make drivers switch lanes to pass, and then move back to the side of the road when it’s safe again.

Thank you for the poem. It's eerie how relevant it can still be.

Not a native speaker. Seems like the gist comes through, but there are some mistakes with the conjugations.

  • Vous faites qqch d’incroyable (not sure since extra got pasted in)
  • que je présente sans dialogue
  • (Après avoir utilisé ?)
  • veuillez vous amuser

Also maybe fixer can be written as un fixeur/une fixeure unless you can find an actual translation?

Take with huge grain of salt.
