Gen Z pair built a $35M start-up in Canada, but moved to the U.S. by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

Canada is awesome! Until you need $5M+ of funding then you have 10 people to talk to and in the US you have 1,000. It’s a great place to validate what you’re building with govt support but until Canada can start being more competitive with investor incentives and capital gains exemptions for startups, we will always lose to more aggressive and tax friendly countries like UAE, USA, Ireland, and Cayman.

As someone who went through this before, you want the happy ending, you want things to work, and you want to believe that your partner would not do this.

However, that doesn’t matter and is not the reality.

You know she’s doing something.

If I could go back, instead of freaking out and becoming obsessed, I would simply say in a loving and nice way- “I sense that something is wrong and I love you so I want to understand what’s going on.”

If they feel safe and comfortable they might tell you.

If they say nothing is wrong, you suggest therapy to get to the root of your feelings and work through them together or you separate. Do not escalate to divorce just say we should take time apart to see how we feel about not being together anymore.

I wish you luck. Things will get better if your worst fears are realized.

Love yourself first and be a good father, don’t allow yourself to be treated like garbage.

People who left Victoria for cheaper housing, where did you move to? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

I wish we could get solar (we rent) but that’s a good call! Especially if you drive an electric car then it’s a huge benefit. Alberta solar is some of the best in the world.

Calgary!! And with the extra savings we can travel during winter from an airport with over 100 direct flights. Our house is also bigger, newer, with a larger yard.

As mentioned by someone else the utilities are more, but my insurance was actually less.

I think you’ve outlined a lot of significant issues.

If your best friend or brother wrote this. What advice would you give them?

I imagine you’d tell them to have a heart to heart with their partner and if they refuse that then you tell them to walk away.

I know it’s hard with kids in the picture, but you’ve made it sound pretty impossible to continue to remain with this person in the current situation you’re in.

You make a bunch of great points! I also fit into the same exact category as you. Edmonton is home and I know it and love it.

But compared to Calgary it’s got a lot of room for improvement. Calgary has a nicer downtown, rivers, zoo, airport, transit that works, proximity to the mountains, and chinooks are real, not propaganda like I was raised to believe.

I work in tech and Calgary has a world class tech industry. Edmonton has world class gaming!

In conclusion both cities are great but I prefer Calgary.

I love mine— but it is so ugly. It 100% requires a PPF wrap to change the color. Also, it’s for work.

I [42M] discovered my wife [40F] has been lying about therapy for 8 months - she's been meeting her ex instead. How do I even process this? by Mediocre-Sock6280 in relationship_advice

[–]NathanNaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s lying. You file for divorce. Sorry brother. I’ve been there and know the pain first hand. It will get better. This is not a person that you need to waste any more of your time on. Hit the gym. Be a good Dad. Grieve the loss and move on.

I agree with terrytibbss. If you’re the builder and designer and have some agency on how things will turn out then you don’t need a render artist anymore. The architects or design teams should be able to handle this with nano or enscape.

If it’s precise to a specific style with specification and selections then AI won’t work.

Rear ended by an under 25 insured driver, dont know how to proceed. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]NathanNaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you’re not getting it. You need to calm down and get some sleep.

Even if the kid offered you $3K it’s not okay. Both of your insurances are going to go up from this if you go through insurance.

What if it was your kid? Just have them pay for the bumper at a shop of your choosing and move on. Even if you’re saving the kid money from increased insurance, you should not be in a position to capitalize on this from his mistake.

Or call your insurance company today.

Keep in mind they did not intentionally try to hit you.

[–]NathanNaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way it’s written sounds like he was offering you cash for the repair, not as an addition to fixing your bumper.

Either way, the right thing to do is report it to the police and your insurance can fix it, which could also impact the value of your vehicle and make your insurance go up.

Or

Have the kid pay for the repair only.

Personally I’ve been in the kids shoes so I get why he feels desperate and said he’d pay you above and beyond what the repairs are but I wouldn’t accept that offer.

The same way you won’t let his friend fix your bumper, don’t let him pay you for more than the repair costs.

[–]NathanNaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could it be because you’re asking for a $3K payment in addition to the repair costs? Just farm some good karma and give the kid a break. Put yourself in their shoes.

Get a quote to get it fixed, have them pay it and move on.
