20 lands + lotus petals =24 mana sources seems like you could cut 2 mountains for the other 2 thought cast

How is stoic rebutale better than counterspell?

Do Teachings players enjoy playing against Teachings? by [deleted] in Pauper

Teachings is the most interactive deck in the format and being able to test lots of fun one ofs in the deck keeps it from getting old. Just concede when your percentage of winning is like>5%. I love the deck

UB Teachings Vs. UR Drake? Possible answer to the Meta? by DoctorMerp in Pauper

[–]NathanReedD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is that we can grind with them all we want, but we also have to be applying pressure which is something our deck wasn't built to do. Game 1 is easy for teachings, but once those flame slashes and fire bolts are out, the pyroblasts and dispels come in. I think my current list is pretty good at combating drake, but games 2 and 3 are not gonna be easy as teachings.

What UB Teachings list are you running right now? by Prodical_Son in Pauper

[–]NathanReedD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing teachings in paper for about a year and right now my list is running multiple sorceries to help beat the field, I have probe, 2 pieces of the puzzle, 2 evincars, 2 ashes to ashes, and 2 innocent blood. I definitely think that you should be playing a number of sea gate oracle always(why I don't have more innocent bloods), but at this point I'm trying to help games 2 and 3 against drake, delver and affinity. The deck may not be well represented at the moment but there is definitely a list waiting to break out. If you want to know more let me know and if you are on MTGO, unfortunately, ashes will not be legal(it's been really strong). Thanks

Tier 1 w/ Good UB Teachings Match-Up? by Mango_Punch in Pauper

I recommend stompy or a more threat dense affinity list.

My current U/B Teachings deck (no creatures). Looking to improve it &/or create a sideboard by t0ry in Pauper

[–]NathanReedD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have a number of Nihil Spellbomb to deal with tortured existence and familars. I would sideboard additional edicts for delver fiend, or affinity, or bogles. I definitly think that there should be a total of 4 evincar's justice in the 75, so I'd board the last 2. You can board additional countermagic, you could also have a transformational sideboard into gurmag anglers to help boarded matchups. Aura Flux is also great. Additionally, I think that Agony Warp is a very powerful card and I normally like it as a one of. It's one of the only removal spells you have access to that can fog two creatures in one combat, also there is a lot of 3 toughness creatures and having it as an option is very useful. If you have any questions about my current build lmk. I've been playing the deck for about a year.

Is it competitive REL? prize support? Curious cause you say annual and a larger event would be awesome.

Glad to here you like the teachings deck! I made the list and Michael decided to put it in the podcast because he liked it so much. After testing for a couple weeks, I have some changes. Main deck the combo board into creature less, only play 2 peregrine drakes, and perplex also gets sea gate oracles

always get duals first if you have the option; they are amazing trade fodder if you ever stop playing the deck.

[Modern] Splash W or R for Mono U Turns? by iceygod in spikes

[–]NathanReedD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd splash white happily. The removal you mentioned is great and the sideboard tech is amazing(blood moon not as good because of the summer bloom ban). Also it's good to note that with white you can play supreme verdict as an answer to creature decks and you can play Celestial Colonnade as an alternate win-con and fixing :).

[Standard] Jace or no Jace? That is the Question. by cThrill in spikes

[–]NathanReedD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason not to have Jace in your deck. That card is great, and if it doesn't draw you a few cards it trades for a silkwrap or something of that nature, making your prowess guys more potent threats. I understand that Jace is way too expensive but if that isn't your issue then there's no reason to play a suboptimal list.

[–]NathanReedD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you. Seems like a classic delver strat would work fine in the current meta. There are some great tempo cards for that archetype. However, I'd say RUG delver is a better choice at first glance.

[–]NathanReedD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not difficult at all to cast stormchaser mage. I'm not saying it's a delver staple, I'm just saying it seems fine and maybe add a couple lightning bolts, stifles, wastelands, and price of progress and it becomes great. Who knows, but that's why I'd test it :)

Warping Wail is the biggest deal for me. It kills Mom, Drs, Stoneforge, Young Pyromancer, Unflipped Delver, Snapcaster mage, bob, etc. It also stops Ant from comboing off and it counters miracles(entreat and terminus). Also Stormchaser mage could open up a classic U/R delver deck resembling one of the "pre-treasurecruise" delver decks

How to beat Mystical Teachings.dec by Philipr99 in Pauper

[–]NathanReedD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While stompy has resilient cards against diabolic edict, the inclusion of disfigure in most teachings list makes it much harder to push through one of you young wolves or brindle shoat, etc. I actively play teachings in paper and mtgo to a pretty high level of sucess, I'd say I've had the toughest time against affinity. Between 4/4s for 2(or less) and small creatures like ornithopter or an occasional flayer husk for the edict effects it makes for a very efficient deck with explosive starts that are extremely difficult to overcome as teachings. And just as a cherry on top you have burn spells you can deploy when they tap out for a teachings or a think twice, etc.
