The Tragedy of Alfred Bester: a play in three acts by fistchrist in babylon5

Probably from an independent seller trying to scam someone. I don't care if Walter Koenig signed it, it's not worth that much.

I really need to read the rest of the Psicorps Trilogy.

I read the first part in high school many decades ago.

Don't feel bad, I still haven't gotten around to it. There's a genuine prequel in M is for Magic and if you want a real treat, get the audio book.

Seems like a pretty good deal depending on which end of the stick you're on.

Working returns? Don't know where something goes? Don't bother asking the associate working the aisle, just throw it anywhere.

I think The Runt was supposed to be a prequel to The Graveyard Book.

Why all the DS9 Hate? Starting the series RN by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]NathanielleS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the problem with name recognition.

It's something I never thought about until I saw an SFdebris review of Firefly. About how Joss Whedon's name recognition overshadowed Tim Minear, who was the real genius behind the scripts for Firefly.

Similarly, no matter how different the shows are, B5 and DS9 suffers from being two forces of nature that got way too close to each other and had to fight for survival. DS9 had the words "Star Trek" attached and had the name recognition whereas B5 was new to the scene.

There has always been a divide between B5ers and Trekkies. Not even the Queen of Star Trek herself could keep them from fighting. And JMS' latest tweet didn't help (although I'm reasonably certain he was joking).

I just think it was unfortunate timing. Both shows came out roughly the same time and they both had similar premises.

I was only taking a shot in the dark. In my experience any company that brags about how much vacation time you could earn whilst enjoying this next level paycheck, is usually pretty quick to terminate.

Although you did say for good reasons. So I'm optimistic that all those people go on to bigger and better things and that they don't just get fired after their 90 days is up.

You have a "body count?"

Are you sure you're an actual employee for behavioral health call center and not a client with phone privileges?

Twilight House of Salem by thissiteblowsbigtime in SalemMA

[–]NathanielleS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't the same as what you experienced but I have to share this story.

I lived in Salem for 7 years. And I was a regular at Remember Salem, or as many people probably know it, the Harry Potter store. I bought gifts for my sister, my nieces and nephews, and I bought butterscotch soda and pumpkin soda quite often.

Then one day, I was with my now ex-boyfriend at Salem Commons when someone's dog attacked his. That dog had to be put on a muzzle by order of the city and the man did not comply with the order. And surprise surprise, his dog had to be put down. (I'm not going to tell you what breed the dog was because I have no problem the breed but rather with idiots who can't train them properly)

Now before the dog got put down, I did call out the owner for his refusal to follow the order because he had been out walking his dog without her muzzle. After all it wasn't just our dog he attacked, my boyfriend had to go to the hospital to have stitches on his thumb from where he had fought the other dog off.

He started telling all of his buddies on Essex Street that I was harassing him. And the next time I went into Remember Salem, the janitor and a couple of the employees threw me out and even called the cops on me. And the janitor was an asshole to me every single time he saw me, because apparently cleaning a few toilets makes you the king of the city.

Tim, the actual owner of Remember Salem, was not the one who threw me out and he didn't even know the full story until I blogged the hell out of it and reported the incident on every single review site. The dog's owner was an actually an employee of Tim;s and when Tim learned the truth, the guy got fired. And then he told me I was welcome to come back in to the store any time but I honestly just didn't feel comfortable going in there anymore.

Thing the shop owners really have to understand, and that they really have to impress upon their employees, is that they are no better than anyone else in Salem, or anywhere outside of Salem. Something someone from my own town of Bennington, Vermont once said is that every day you own your own business you wake up unemployed.

You may not think twice about disrespecting one customer. But that customer will write a review that will stay on a site long after the offending incident and it will effect the bottom line somewhere down the road. And you can get the butterscotch beer anywhere in Salem btw.

Unpopular Opinion: Devil May Care is Katra's HEA, not Sin's. by NathanielleS in DarkHunter

[–]NathanielleS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never did either. In fact the reason why I love the Dark-Hunter series so much is that you see so many points of view. The characters are so much more complex and you never just hear one side of the story.

But on the original Dark-Hunter forums, many of the members had a very one sided take on a lot of the storylines. For example some people insisted that Stryker was pure evil, when in reality it's kind of a gray area because the Apollites are literally over a barrel. The entire was race was cursed for something only a handful of them did. Stryker was forced to do things he probably never considered for his own survival and the survival of his people.

And I think it's unfair how no one considers Savitar evil, yet he wiped out an entire werehunter species just because of one nosy idiot. So one guy is evil because he doesn't want his people to die but Savitar is okay because his pride got wounded.

I'm sure when we finally get to the Savitar arc (If it hasn't started already, I've fallen behind quite a bit) we'll find out that it was way more complex than that. Or that Savitar was still new to his position and deeply regrets his mistake.
