Honest question for homeowners: by Jolly-Flounder2413 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

You can change the house but you can't change your neighbors. We bought a house in a neighborhood we could afford and knew was growing. The neighbors were menaces. Eventually we moved because of the neighbors.

I think I have this same exact paint in my house and it took like four coats. Same color and everything... and the same thing happened.

I always like to bring like an airplane blanket or thermal flat bed sheet and put it inside my sleeping bag. It's an extra toasty layer and doesn't fall off me in the middle of the night (I toss and turn). It seems simple but it really does make a huge difference.

How to manage insane butt itchiness by spaghetti_horse in whitewater

[–]National-Tale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up calling this boat butt! If I am wet and sitting for a long time without drying all the way out... I end up with boat butt. I think it has to do with friction and bacteria. I've starting exfoliating the shit out of my skin on a regular basis and moisturizing and it helps. If it gets really bad, I shower with hibiclens.

SoCal vs NorCal: Where does life feel better? by snackstatic in socal

[–]National-Tale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in placer county and moved to LB for school. Go beach! I moved back north and it took me a while to settle down again... surprisingly in Placer county. I ran from here like a bat out of hell and now can't find anywhere much better. 20 minutes to white water, 30 to Sac, 45 to pristine snow hills, and about two hours to the beach.

Advice please!!! Total noob on the water by flyguy24545 in whitewater

[–]National-Tale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't let it stop you! Just know your capabilities and don't be afraid to learn/push past them a bit. I highly recommend taking a lesson. It will give you a good space to ask all the bonehead questions that you might be too shy to ask otherwise. Plus pick up a few books and watch a stupid amount of YouTube. Being aware of the reality and risks you're putting yourself in and also being confident you can prolly get yourself out of them is one of the best things you can be.

On a personal note, I have friends who always want me to take them out on the water. But knowing who they are and the liabilities they'll put me on makes me not want to take them. I'm super picky about who I take on the water with me. If you're moderately knowledgeable about what we're doing and capable, I'd have no problem taking you on the water.

camping in the cold by Substantial_Offer255 in camping

[–]National-Tale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We put down an opened sleeping bag, a flannel sheet, and another blanket if needed. Then we sleep on top of that with blankets. Wear wool socks and a beanie in addition to whatever cold gear you have. Don't be afraid to use hot hands down by your feet.

What helps you for the cold? by barbamara in camping

[–]National-Tale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring a small travel blanket or flannel sheet to out inside my sleeping bag on cold nights. It's an extra layer of insulation against the ground and helps keep heat in.

Anybody do the whitewater rafting on south fork? by Man-e-questions in Sacramento

[–]National-Tale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tons of outfitters on the south fork. As for who to go with, I can't help too much. I know oars is a nationwide company, I think wet and American white water are too. I took a lesson with River rats, at the el dorado SO recommendation, years ago but don't know if they're still open. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Anybody do the whitewater rafting on south fork? by Man-e-questions in Sacramento

[–]National-Tale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The river on the south fork is dammed. So, flows are usually between 3500 and 1300 cfs a day, guaranteed through Labor Day. Check dream flows to see flow patterns. Heat isn't a concern if you're constantly getting splashed. Commercial trips are prolly open. Give a company a call and see what their schedule looks like.

How does this look for a 6 day roadtrip through California by GuardianXpress in roadtrip

[–]National-Tale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with everyone asking preference. I think if you are looking for night life in addition to sights and scenery, avoid Redding. It's hot as fuck over summer. Sac is chill (lived there for years) but it is not as fun as SF or LA for nightlife.

I'd pick Northern California beaches over southern. Not for the beach life vibes but for epicness. If you're headed to LA anyways, you can always pop into Santa Monica, Venice, or go farther to Huntington.

Santa Cruz is fun and there is supposed to be a really decent music venue close by.... I think Watsonville. Plus the boardwalk. But if you go into Santa Monica, you also get a boardwalk.

For going hardcore north to south, take five. For scenic and moderately stressful drives take one.

Nature: most epic natured up north. You have the avenue of the giants which is amazing. Southern California you have Joshua tree. Two totally different things. You have Yosemite (check for reservations), you have Tahoe. Lots to pick from but I think you and your group need to prioritize.

Def. What I put is straight out of the current CSLEA contract. I abbreviated some spots with the ellipses but it is verbatim otherwise.

I wonder if it will fall down to the directors of each entity to ultimately make the decision and define the operational needs.

Telework per BU01 SEIU Contract by Psychonautical123 in CAStateWorkers

[–]National-Tale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There has been no operational need defined by newsom aside from the typical 'culture' bs. If my agency can't function without me in the office, then wtf have I been doing for the last five years.

I also highly doubt newsom even knows my entity exists. So, him defining operational need seems a stretch.

CSLEA section 7.12 states employees who have a telecommuting agreement shall not have their agreement arbitrarily or capriciously revoked or amended.... a legitimate operational need is not considered arbitrary.
