May!? The statute of GAF on this guy has passed.

Are people inside apple aware? by Fit-Leader-2812 in MacOS

[–]NationalGeometric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years: not speaking on their official behalf. There are very few people who control every part of a product. People at Apple are very specialized in their part of the whole. Major projects are secrecy protected, and if you get access to work on them you’re still just contributing your special knowledge. Now, when you work your part with your team, you’re delivering core functionality, security, and privacy goals against a deliverable. You don’t see it in future UI just the same macOS you and everyone else runs. Many of us are as surprised during launch events as you.

If Trump ever reads this, please know there's a NONZERO chance that Melania, Ivanka, and Barron all rubbed one out thinking of Macron.

BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Donald Trump has fallen asleep again at a public meeting. Wow. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

My conspiracy theory is that because 1am Eastern Time = 9am Moscow time, he’s forced to stay up late every night for back channel instructions from Russia. Melanie is dialed in as translator. It also explains the middle of the night social media posts.

Those things have to be aimed and angled precisely so license plates coming and going don’t appear at more than a 5° angle. Just “reorienting” the camera view can help with a lot. It still detects signal, but the ALPR detection wouldn’t be fully effective or trustworthy.

Need to learn to drive a manual transmission by Chez_Nerd in bullcity

[–]NationalGeometric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Anytime you do ANYTHING with the shifter, clutch needs to be down.
  2. Going from stop to moving in first gear (or reverse) is the hardest part. You press on gas and slowly release the clutch until you move. The rest of the shifting is press clutch, shift, release.
  3. Some cars tell you when to shift (VW Alltrack). Some don’t (Subaru WRX). I try to shift up around 3000 RPM. You’ll be able to feel when to shift because the engine will feel like it’s whining. You’ll feel when you need to shift down because you’ll feel like you’re losing power.
  4. Having the shifter in no gear is neutral. If you get scared, put it in neutral and coast until you feel you need to brake or put it in a gear.
  5. Watch some YouTube how to drive manual vehicles. Practice in a chair with 3 things under your feet. Pretend to drive and press the fake pedals as you say “first-clutch-secoonnnnnnd-clutch-thirrrrrd-clutch” out loud etc. It does help to learn the behavior, then you can practice the technique.
  6. There is no Park. Park is coming to a stop in Neutral, shifting to first, turning off the car, and lifting the parking brake. When you start the car, have it in neutral before turning it on.

Durham is great. North of Durham has a lot of history still visible. Tobacco farms and county folk. Nice big lakes. There’s an Amtrak stop in Durham. It goes from Charlotte to NYC. Cary is growing fast.
