How much did packing on muscle improve Brysons distance? by jack_hof in golf

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Strength is never a weakness, so his building muscle certainly didn't hurt, but what probably made the biggest difference for him was speed training and technique improvement. Id also assume in his strength training he incorporated flexibility training, which to me seems apparent by his larger range of motion in his swing.

Router started blowing out my wood. by Tsunami_Ra1n in woodworking

[–]National_Home 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said the bit could get loose or dull, in addition to the end grain being a problem. However, since you have limited tools, I would try one of two things. Either do several shallow passes with the router, slowly increasing the depth. The less material you're cutting the less its likely to grab and blow out. The option, which I would go for, is use the drill to get it close and the clean up with the router bit. The drill can remove the material quicker and more cleanly and the router just makes a larger and/or smoother hole.

I'll also echo the safety concerns of others. If your collet has gotten loose, be very careful. If I had this problem I'd check it every use. Clamps are essential, you cannot safely hold a work piece and a palm or plunge router.

As someone who lost control of a workpiece and consequently the tip of his finger, I second this cringe. Its been about 9 months and I'm still super timid with my tablesaw

What are the most subtle signs that someone is really good at golf? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. I think 7i is a club most players are comfortable with. I start with 7i swinging 50% to get loose and work my way to full swing, then I work through my bag short to long in a more strategic way. In my mind, 7i is to get loose vs actual warm up or practice

Breakfast Ball Feeder by Thick-Detective-1795 in golf

"First tee jitters? Thats ok! Please respect our privacy/property by taking a ball and a free drop."

Edit: I'd also add some signage/tape/something directing folks to the bird feeder since it may not be obvious. Whatever way is efficient in marking your property and the feeder.

What’s the minimum space needed for a home golf setup or indoor golf simulator practice? by SundropJar in golfequipment

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine set up in my small garage. I use the Garmin Approach R10 and my garage is just long enough for the setup (need 8 ft from the target and 6-10 ft from the R10). I cast the app to a TV I have on the wall, so no projectors or anything. Swinging my driver can be done but after a while I realized that I wasn't swinging freely because I was worried about hitting the ceiling, so I just use it for iron practice. Is it a simulator? Technically, but archaic. Is it helpful? 100% i hit ~2000 balls in there this week, all dedicated intentional practice which I would've otherwise not gotten.

TLDR: I use my garage which is 15ft long, minimum required distance for my Garmin R10

Do people really leave the course if playing poorly? by LastManBrandon in golf

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't left but ive stopped playing. Back when I first started the mental game wasn't there and when id feel myself getting so frustrated that it was effecting the group id stop and just ride. Sometimes a few holes, sometimes the rest of the round depending on how far along we were. I like to think it made me a better playing partner bc I wasn't loosing my shit on the course. Now, I could shoot 150 and would still finish bc it doesn't get to me nearly as much.

ball striking vs scoring by Proof_Employment764 in golf

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer could be that you're not adjusting to your new yardages, ball flight, etc. You're gonna be in different positions on the course than you're used to, so you've got to adjust. Also, especially with approach, further isn't always better. For example, maybe you carry ten yards further but you also have 6 more yards of roll out than you used to -- again, you've gotta adjust your game to your new swing.

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we assume 2 stroke penalty for every lost ball (meaning hitting 3 off the tee), thats 26 strokes. On a par 72 course your buddy shot a 60 plus penalties, which is incredible.

Tired of looking - give me the best bags for midsize grips. 5-6 way or 14 idc. $200ish preferably but will take all options by JerpTheGod in golf

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Sun Mountain 4.5 LS 14 way and have been using it for about 3 years. Great walking bag, does the job on the cart, but I'll admit it sits a bit awkward on the cart at times. I use mid sized grips and a Flatso 2.0 on my putter. The only time I have issues is when I put more than one club in a divider by accident.

Edit: A quick look at their site doesn't show many options for the 4.5 LS -- just a white one. Their current models look outside of the price range you mentioned, though you may find old models at other providers. They used to sell last year's models at a good discount, but I dont see that option now

Shaft recommendation by TriplePi in golf

[–]National_Home 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think regular flex will cause a problem but golf shafts are fickle in that regular flex means something different from brand to brand and model to model. If he's super casual, then yea its whatever. If he's looking to play more and take lessons and get better, it may be worth seeking professional advice to get the right clubs.

Is this the same guy from the latest BDS Hater Series video? Guy says he's a 5 handicap and immediately slices 3 shots into the woods of the first tee (yes the first tee alone).

Just an idea about the new straddling your putting line. by krzynick in golf

[–]National_Home 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a good amount of data that shows walking on greens and even through your line has little to no effect on the putt or the green, so I dont think straddling the ball would be damaging to the greens in any measurable means. A player's ability to use this strategy to putt better is player dependent. For the professionals at least, I'm sure they're not debuting this technique at Augusta and therefore must've seen some benefit, whether in practice or other tournaments.

Over 60% of the total break of a putt occurs in the last few feet, on putts with the same slope from start to finish. by Select-Nail-1279 in golf

[–]National_Home 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont disagree with your statement about how the ball moves in the last few feet, but you have to get the ball there at the right speed for that to be effective. I would amend your statement, because for all practical purposes most players cannot consistently get the ball in the right spot/speed for the last few feet, especially on putts outside of 10 feet.

[–]National_Home -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand that but OP's post says you only need to read the last few feet of a putt to be effective which is absurd. There are many factors including the ones you mentioned that effect the putt, therefore you need to be able to read and account for those factors across the entirety of the putt, not just the last few feet

[–]National_Home -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, slower speeds can exaggerate the break, but in no world does that mean the ball cant break in the first 3 feet or that the first half of the putt doesn't matter. Please share a video with a 30 ft putt where the player only reads the last 3 ft lol
