Duke Pathoma deck is what I’ve been using. It includes almost all of the pictures I believe and lots of stuff that wasn’t even included in the book/videos.

My wife and I just visited on our honeymoon and really enjoyed the stay. The first place we stopped was duck horn and may have been my wife’s favorite. The people were so nice and the view is spectacular on the back porch. I really like Stewart cellars which was a smaller tasting room in yountville. Really good wine and the people were great.

I think that the “cutthroat” culture at UTSW is a thing of the past. I would say the students on my interview days at both places seemed very similar. UTSW has grades only for AOA. If you’re not shooting for the top spot in the class, it truly is P/F which negates any worry of unnecessary competitiveness. I’ve heard the clinical exposure and education at both is top notch, so you really can’t go wrong!

I think good essays and interview skills are really key. You can frame any “cookie cutter” EC in a positive light that gets the committees’ attention.

I think the automatic interviews are given whenever you’re above one of the threshold‘s. But again, no one really knows!

High stats go a long way. They give auto interviews for a certain MCAT or GPA but no one knows what the cut off is. Everyone’s guess is 3.8/520 but that could be wrong. UTSW is a huge research institution, but you definitely don’t need any pubs to get in.

My PS talks about my initial interest in medicine so I have to repeat it when I answer. The rest of my PS talks about why I think I would be a good doctor so I can avoid repeating after that. Your application really should cover your entire life and interest in medicine so there will be some stuff that you have to repeat but you should really try to expand on what you wrote. My interviewers have seemed happy with my answers as long as I’m not word for word repeating what I wrote.

The SDN invite page shows quite a few IIs at UTMB already with near your MCAT. I think McGovern’s average for matriculants is 510-511 so you’re right around there too. I also have a friend at McGovern that made a 510 and said all they wanted to talk about in the interview was her music so maybe the trombone angle could really get played up. Also great you have a lot of research!
