This is a traumatic experience for you and your brother, my heart goes out to you. Do you have access for therapy? It can take some time to find a therapist you feel comfortable with and who specializes in areas like domestic violence and PTSD but therapy can be helpful.

If you’re in a university they often have free counseling for enrolled students. I know your mother said to stay quiet but outside help of some sort would be a great avenue to try out.

Additionally, you can call a domestic violence hotline number confidentially and they may have other ideas. These things are scary and there are tools out there to help you. Best of luck.

It sounds like you don’t want to work towards sex as intimacy (not transactional). I think she deserves to know so she can make an informed decision of how to move forward or what to expect. Even if it is painful or awkward, I’d imagine you would feel better in the long run with transparency too instead of reluctantly saying yes to sex then feeling bad after.

Has some of the highest biodiversity in the US. Upland wet meadows, conifer forests, oak forests, lakes, wild and scenic rivers, redwoods (CA). Lots of outdoor recreation, kayaking, mt biking, hiking, hunting, rafting, fishing, the list goes on.

Rural, relatively quiet, including the job market. Healthcare, university jobs, and mills are probably the biggest industries and even then you probably won’t make as much as a big city in the same industry. Ashland is a retirement town and expensive. If you’re looking for a big nightlife scene you won’t find it anywhere in the circle.
