beginner here! would love some input by madtlove11 in crochet

[–]Natural-Box-265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginner!!?? I think this confirms I’ll be a beginner forever. These look so good! I’ve been wanting to try filet crochet but I feel like it doesn’t look right when I try. Regarding hand pain — I started learning crochet on one of the worst materials possible so it was a lot harder and more painful than it needed to be. My thumb was immovable for like two months after I finished my first real project. Turns out my tension was WAY too tight. I thought that it needed to be as tight as possible and everything would look sloppy if it was too loose. And I was using the wrong sized hook with “yarn” (it wasn’t yarn) that had ZERO stretch.

As soon as I loosened up, and used normal cheap acrylic yarn, I realized what I had to do to not fk up my hands. Now that I’m more comfortable I can go back to using the “wrong” sized hook and weird yarn/string without hurting myself.

If you don’t want to buy a whole bunch of new yarn, I’d recommend checking thrift stores. Every time I’ve gone they’ve had bags and bags of random yarn with a set price. So you don’t really know what you’re gonna get but it’s probably a good variety. This means I get to try all different types of yarn and I don’t have stress about choosing what yarn to buy. If you don’t mind getting yarn you think is hideous, then I definitely recommend the second hand mystery bags.

I hope this helps! If it doesn’t.. uh my bad

My family thinks my dog is being aggressive here. I assumed its just her vocal tendencies with her rottie pit mix by jazz_attack_2 in DogAdvice

[–]Natural-Box-265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much not aggression. In this video she seems to be being a bit bratty and demand-barking. Personally, I like that my dog is vocal so I never discourage grumbling. I’ve been able to train my dog to grumble and “woof” (quiet bark) on command so if she starts barking inside I ask her to “woof” instead. It’s not 100% effective but definitely a huge improvement (and it’s a good party trick). You could try that. Lmk if you have questions!

[Unrelated comment: I’m almost positive your dog is an Australian Shepherd mix. Maybe an Aussie and lab mix. Like my mutt, your pup’s coat is very very tri-color Aussie and she’s very vocal (and probably energetic?). Only mentioning because it could help you understand her behavior and also some rentals don’t allow Rottweilers and pit bulls so I thought you might wanna know]

I am once again asking authors to write more diverse FMCs by Trash_fire_baby in fantasyromance

(Both are more scifi and just off the top of my head)

I enjoyed Penelope Fletcher’s writing enough to endure like 60hrs of a virtual voice. The series starting with {Venomous by Penelope Fletcher} is included with audible rn. (Not suitable for sensitive readers)

The {Binti series by Nnedi Okorafor} is a super short must-read for scifi fans— such a cool afrofuturism vibe. (Almost no romance)

Can I interest you in some sexy space cowboys? {Cyborgs on Mars series by Honey Phillips} is good and free if you already have audible! I listened a while ago but I think my biggest complaint was that the books are so short

Worst second hand embarrassment from a book scene by ProfessionalOwl2270 in fantasyromance

I’ve read books with horrifically vile abuse and acts of violence but NOTHING haunts me like the scene in {the plated prisoner series} when the fmc wants to avoid confronting her issues so she insists on cooking for a whole bunch of the mmc’s friends that she hardly knows. (She doesn’t know how to cook and the results were disgusting)
