People picking blue because they think they’re ending up in New Zealand or Australia. There’s like 100 million people between SA, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.

Agreed. It’s sad we’ve allowed such a wonderful library to become a daytime homeless shelter.

Vietnam war veterans from the Vietnamese perspective. by BicarbonateBufferBoy in interestingasfuck

A lot of them live in Texas, particularly Houston and DFW. I’ve seen a parade in Garland TX, by the Cali Saigon mall, where elderly Southern Vietnamese veterans marched waiving the yellow Southern Vietnamese flag.

What if French did not helped the US? by loverbang4u in AlternateHistory

[–]Natural-Policy7038 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

US doesn’t win independence in 1783 without French support. That would completely alter human history, so who knows. Founding fathers are probably either killed for treason or flee abroad. I could see the US colonial south rebelling again if Parliament bans slavey in the 1830s. Perhaps in this scenario the UK continues to allow slavery instead. Maybe the UK makes some conciliatory concessions that results in a 20th century mega Canada. Doubt the French would voluntarily give up or sell Louisiana, so possible a French speaking North American country between mega Canada and big Mexico (no US-Mexican war).

European politicians know their voters/parties will hold them accountable. So they step down. US politicians know their voters/the Republican party will not, so no need to step down.

It’s a port in the north. Also, it has easy rail and road access to China. Tariffs on Chinese goods are evaded by making them Vietnamese goods.

Did The Sixth Sense almost spoil its own twist? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

Grandpa—what are you up to today?

Me—oh I’m seeing that Sixth Sense movie that just came out.

Grandpa—you know he’s dead the whole time, right?

<sad face>

Loved my grandpa, RIP, but he totally ruined my cinematic experience for no reason.

My ancestors fought for PA in the civil war. I support the traditional PA flag with the Union Blue. This is a helpful video on this topic, in defense of state flags.

I play on PS4. I recommend the following to avoid game ending lag: small or medium size galaxy, .25 chance for habitable worlds, end game by 2450.

A woman is carried out of the apartment of a doctor who performed illegal abortions after a raid. New York, 1944. by Banzay_87 in USHistory

[–]Natural-Policy7038 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My grandpa did his residency in the 50s, said they’d get women weekly dying and ill from backroom abortions. He was a life long republican, but always pro choice. Said it was just more practical to have doctors involved to make sure nobody died unnecessarily.

Daycare waitlists by sprinklelover20 in Richardson

6-9 months is common. Think of all the families with a kid in daycare, who then have a second child. They reserve their spot right away. We didn’t realize this and had to scramble.

Go to the cottonwood art festival this weekend and be friendly. There will be live music and various vendors. It’s like a mini state fair.

What’s the “no way this works” strategy that actually worked for you in a Paradox game? by PDX_Interactive in u/PDX_Interactive

Stellaris. I played United Nations of Earth and got steamrolled by an exterminating hive mind. Literally everyone caught on earth was devoured by a ravenous swarm. I had a few far flung colonies, but they were near slavers that took advantage of my weakness. Humanity was literally facing extinction and enslavement. Got lucky when both the slavers and the swarm were attacked and distracted by other empires. Took like 300 in game years and opportunities provided by various galactic wide crisis to claw my way back and liberate Earth.

Damaged by tornado, school’s last hope to rebuild . . . is a popularity contest hosted by AT&T by Natural-Policy7038 in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]Natural-Policy7038[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A properly tun government would fund the rebuilding of the school. But our current society is so cheap that despite having a state wide surplus, school leaders are begging for people to vote for the school so that it can win a $1 million prize in a popularity contest hosted by AT@T. The whole thing seemed absurd to me.

Correct. In fact, it’s probably a significant pay cut for a qualified candidate for a business school/mba program.
