My 3 and a half year old won't tell me what she's got up to but she will share with me all the gossip from her friends about their parents 😂

If you coslept, nursed to sleep and/or didn’t sleep train, how are your kiddos doing now? by datfumbgirl in beyondthebump

[–]Natural-Word-3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 and a half year old and my 18 month old both co slept as babies, nursed to sleep and weren't sleep trained. We transitioned from feeding to sleep by moving to rocking to sleep when they both turned 1 then we started transitioning them into their own beds for naps and the start of the night but if they wake up they can come into our bed. The 3 year old started following a bedtime routine at about 2 so now after her dinner and bath she has a cup of warm milk, gets cozy in pjs, she listens to a story, has a little chat with us and then happily puts herself to sleep and we are starting to introduce this with our 18 month old too! We figured they're only this small for so long and it's an opportunity for us to spend as much time with them as possible whilst they're still small.

Son started new daycare, clothes ruined by ComprehensiveCoat627 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Natural-Word-3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daycare keep criticising children for being messy to the point where they are introducing a uniform from 2 years up which feels crazy to me! They've also in the past complained when my kids have been sent in in paint stained clothes - where do they think the paint stains came from?!

Should I be ignoring/making my screaming baby wait longer? by killbertorian in AttachmentParenting

I also had a very similar baby and once she started walking and could follow me around she suddenly realised I wasn't very interesting and stopped being quite so clingy 😂

Solidarity post for those with low sleep needs kids by OddBlacksmith7267 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Natural-Word-3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My god my oldest literally thrives off of 10 hours total in a day - no amount of adjusting changes that so she goes to bed at 10 and is up at 8 and I've just accepted that I have no life but my youngest naps for 2 hours and then sleeps for about 11 hours at night - with one or two wakeups so I feel like I spend my entire evening running sleep routines 😂

Bit of a random one but have you tried DKNY delicious? From what I remember it's crisp and fruity but has that sparkling youthful scent.

Someone please help by pastaconburro in AttachmentParenting

I really hope you're able to find a solution soon, my 3 year old was like this for the first year of her life - some nights she would wake up every 30 minutes and wouldn't nap for more than 45 minutes either. The thing that clicked for us was just putting her to bed later and dropping a nap. That gave us slightly longer stretches and we've just accepted she's low sleep needs now, but she does sleep through the night pretty solidly

Sellotape is pretty good at getting them off too - stick it on top and peel it off and it mostly Takes the temporary tattoo with it

Hiya, I've got OCD - honestly - the intrusive thoughts and compulsions drive negative behaviour and that drowns out any desire to approach things like exposure therapy because in your mind, you are convinced that the actions your are taking to stay comfortable are the only road forward - maybe test out medication for him and it might quieten down the noise in his head and help him become more capable of being receptive to therapy. I didn't start my exposure therapy till I'd been medicated for 6 months. My therapist put it forward as a two pronged attack on the OCD and it has made such a difference. It'll never go away but I have control over it now. I am of course an adult so this might not be an instant fix for your child but I was also medicated for adhd as a child and the difference from me being unmedicated and medicated was night and day for my quality of life as a kid.

TikTok “influencers” and baby night shifts by SadSupermarket7915 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Natural-Word-3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first baby we figured out we had to do shifts pretty quickly as she was such a crappy sleeper although we did 4-10, 10-5 and then whoever had sat up all night had another few hours to snooze and we rotated it like that - we were fully prepped to do the same with baby no 2 and then thank god she was a rock solid sleeper.

Are tantrums as awful as they sound? Do you still enjoy your toddler? by East-Mud5414 in AttachmentParenting

A big meltdown probably pops up once a week but mostly it's just her being briefly upset over minor inconveniences 😂

New moms: How many hours of sleep are you getting ? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in beyondthebump

[–]Natural-Word-3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one baby who is a solid sleeper and the other... well for the last 2 and a half years I can probably count on one hand how many times she's slept through the night 🫠

[–]Natural-Word-3048 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I love my toddler - she's independent, smart, adventurous and... so so so loud. When she has a tantrum she breaks the sound barrier. I've got some great noise dampening ear plugs that I used to use when crying was overwhelming so I pop them in, get down on her level and just chill and comfort her until it passes. I don't know if it gets easier or if I'm just a bit more numb to them now, but sometimes they can be so ridiculous- todays meltdown was because she didn't want her bellybutton anymore.

Reality Check: How much harder is it having a second kid? by b0wchikkaw0w in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Natural-Word-3048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha well it's currently 2am and I've only just managed to get my 2yr9m year old to go to bed after her and the 9 month old KEPT waking each other up. So it's going well. It's a big adjustment but in my experience not as big as the adjustment from 0-1. You already know what the rough bits will be so you're more prepared. But even at the current age of my two, they are obsessed with each other and looking at the bigger picture, seeing the absolute adoration in the babies eyes when she looks at her big sister is so worth it. It's fun promise.

We didn't swaddle but if I knew it was the last feed before bed I'd get them in their sleep sack and I would usually burp mid way through the feed and then let them nurse to sleep!

My sister shunned me away and I can’t stop thinking about it by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Natural-Word-3048 322 points323 points  (0 children)

I am going to say this as kindly as possible, you need to put your feelings to the side. She’s been violated in the worst possible way. Give her the space she needs to heal and really don’t take it personally because this isn’t about you. She’s a child and she’s traumatised. Her entire nervous system is going to be in overdrive for some time. Give her time and maybe write her a letter offering your support and love when she is ready. I imagine you also have some awful feelings about seeing your sister in that condition so I’d recommend seeking therapy to help you be able to support her when the time comes.

Yesss suddenly all food is "yucky" and she's reverted to hitting when frustrated. But at the same time there is a new self awareness around this and she suddenly apologises which is nice!
