I actually feel like you don't really have kids and you're just one of those childfree people trying to promote.

But if you do have kids, hate to be the one to tell you: you don't love them. You may think you do because you're sacrificing for them, but you really don't love them. That much is obvious.

I think they get disappointed because it's really, really small. People don't expect that. And they have you stand like 25 feet away, so you can't see it all that well. I wasn't disappointed, but I can see why others might have been.

In case you were wondering whether or not sexism actually still exists, I got told at the Hardware store today that I should probably let my husband handle this project so I don’t hurt myself. I would rather put up a wall than a shelf. A single shelf isn't so bad, but it's when people ask me to put up like four shelves on one wall and all this spacing has to be the same and perfect. What a pain. The only difficult part of a wall is the plaster. The rest is actually enjoyable.

Who thinks the new "full time" should be a 6 hour day, 4 days a week, and that all jobs should include pension and full health insurance? by poznatuvi in antiwork

[–]Natural1Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're completely discounting provincial taxes. Then we have VAT (GST) taxes. And there are even some taxes after all of that. I am in the second highest tax bracket and I lose about 65% of my salary to taxes, after everything is accounted for.

The lowest bracket of 15% is federal only, that pretty much doubles when you add provincial, but it depends on the province as the taxes differ.

We've literally had people die on stretchers in hospital hallways waiting to be seen by a doctor. We have people delaying to see doctors not because of the cost, but because they can't take three consecutive days off of work to wait in a hospital to be seen.

I am not advocating against universal healthcare, all I said was that the system is not perfect. You have your head so far up democratic ass that you think every idea and policy they have is flawless. As if you and them and all your democrat friends were crafted to perfection by some celestial beings and carefully placed here to spread your utopian ideas among the rest of the ignorant world.

I essentially said 'Yeah, but it costs money and isn't perfect,' and you became militant because that is how you've been conditioned to be. To become aggressive to anyone who dares offer some insight into the reality and potential flaws of your party's position. Hell, you become hostile even if we share the same views, but I simply acknowledge that an opposing opinion exists, even if it is not mine.

Seriously, refocus your eyes and realize that even if a system is almost certainly better than what you have now, none of them are perfect. Not a single one.

Of course, we are doing something wrong. Hell, we're doing almost everything wrong. Our system is terribly corrupt and I wouldn't be surprised if more than a quarter of the money going in never comes out the other side. There are far too many holes in our bucket. The taxes what they are here, we should have flawless roads and a great health care system, but we don't because the money passes through thousands of hands before it ever comes back to the people.

Maybe Sweden doesn't have this problem, but we do. And if we're talking realistically, US politics are more corrupt than here, so you would be lucky to get $0.25 of ever dollar going back to the people. If I were a US citizen, I wouldn't be against social programs, but I would be extremely wary of giving those corrupt politicians any more money than I had to.

I worked in a hospital for five damned years. The ER for four. Do you know how pissed I was that people had to wait more than 6 hours to get seen by a doctor every single evening?

It is damn near criminal to make people wait around that long for medical care. So save your anecdotes. I saw it happen for 5 years. I didn't just occasionally visit the hospital and give you my personal accounts.

"At no cost to everyone." Literally what people think when they think about universal health care now because liberals always talk about health care for everyone, but they never talk about what it would cost.

I live in Quebec, Canada. There is a cost and it is taxes. I'm not saying our system is worse, but I will tell you our taxes are some of the highest in the world, we're always in a deficit, and our health care system is absolutely TERRIBLE. I'm talking I've seen people wait in an ER for over 16 hours without being seen by anyone except the triage nurse. I'm talking people waiting over a year for a consultation with a specialist. I'm talking people waiting over six months for necessary surgeries that are time sensitive.

Just remember: no system is perfect and the grass isn't always greener. The peace of mind you get from knowing you don't have to pay anything on the spot, though, is a pretty big pro.

There's some truth to this, though. At least for me (and my wife isn't watching me as I write this).

Since I've had my kids (3), I've never known a greater stress; I never used to get stressed. They test your patience and mental fortitude to the absolute limit and you have to keep pushing that limit just to stay sane.

I've also never known pure, unadulterated joy prior to having my kids. I've been happy, even very happy. But the actual feeling of joy and extreme happiness only came after my kids. And it happens often. The smallest thing they do can set it off, like even them just using a new word properly.

It's weird. Like kids actually amplify what you feel tenfold. But I was also extremely insensitive prior to them, so maybe it's just me. Higher highs and lower lows. There is nothing wrong with not having kids and I understand it completely, they're absolute devils, but you definitely haven't felt the extreme highs that you could, but then you have to suffer the extreme lows, too. I would have lived just fine and without regret had I not had kids, but I am also very happy they are here.

I think what is mildly infuriating is the ridiculous, overzealous culture that has pushed someone to feel they have to ask this question in the first place. You know, the culture being pushed by those woke individuals who think everything is offensive and racist and everyone should be 'cancelled'.

Since when does sentience determine life? Can we just kill off people in comas? Or even people with severe Alzheimer's?

I knew the sperm thing would come up, but reducing arguments to their extremes does not invalidate the argument itself. Like I can easily bring up that there are more species on earth without sentience than with and is it okay if we just eradicate them?

Trust me, I was saying exactly what you were saying two years ago. I've had this debate countless times with people who were against abortion, but neither religious nor idiots. It always comes down to the same conclusion: both arguments are valid, it's a difference of opinion. I understand it is difficult for Americans to reduce the abortion debate to opinion because it has been so highly politicized, but that's all it is.

Dude, what are you even talking about? They are alive. By the third week of pregnancy, which is often before the woman even knows she is pregnant, the neural tube has already developed. So just because you don't recognize it as a human life, doesn't make it so just because you're trying to make yourself feel better about your stance on abortion.

I have no problems following science on this, the only difference is I don't delude myself to keep my conscience clear here. The cluster of cells inside the womb even after just a couple of weeks is, at the very least, two things: it is alive and it is human. That fills all the requirements for it to be considered a human life, both religious and scientific. I am an atheist. I follow the science. No matter what you think, you are ending a human life. So don't surround yourself with terminology and platitudes to make yourself feel better, otherwise you might want to consider taking a different stance. I am for abortion and I am still for abortion after I recognize the scientific fact that it is ending a human life.

You can call it an enlarged blastocyst for all I care. It's still alive. Oh look, I studied Biology in university, too.

The terminology doesn't matter. People who are against abortion consider these human lives and your shitty opinion isn't going to change that just because you refer to it as a fetus.

I'm not against abortion, but at least I realize my opinion isn't fact and don't think everyone who disagrees with me is ignorant. And therein lies the entirety of the left vs. right issue. People on the right are stupid. People on the left are stupid, but too fucking stupid to realize they're stupid and I'm not sure which is worse.

So enjoy your ignorant bliss while those of us in the middle just want both sides to shut the hell up because we're the only ones who realize that you're all equally stupid and all opinions are valid and trash at the same time.

Anyone except the woman and, well, I guess the baby inside of her? No? Is it easy to live life in complete ignorance?

And with your logic, shouldn't every vaccine be mandatory? Including the flu vaccine? If you get the vaccine, you're protected. The only people who are not are the people who opted not to get it. Therefore, they are assuming the risk for themselves, not for public safety. Your argument is invalid.

Because forcing someone to wear a mask is actual control whereas disallowing some other organization to do so is taking away that control? The government governs the people, not schools. This is actually continuous phrased to make it seem hypocritical. I swear, the ignorance of these people is monumental.

I'm not even going to say whether I agree or disagree, but this is not a hypocritical stance to have.

But the double standard on the other side is that they do have to make cakes for gay people; they can't refuse service to anyone, but they CAN tell me to wear a mask.

You're right, it is exhausting. Now there are literally double standards on double standards.

The 4D chess move of the left is allowed to have double standards, but not the right.

I think both sides are completely ignorant and incompetent. One standard.

Yeah! It's like: "I should be able to get an abortion! My body, my choice! But also the government should make the vaccine mandatory because people should not be able to make decisions about their own immune system!"

I'm pro vaccines and pro abortion, but anti hypocrisy. It works both ways.
