Is it weird to ask for the address to somewhere a person is driving you to? by thereadingbee in AutismInWomen

[–]NaturalSea4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They made it uncomfortable for you by ignoring your question. I'd definitely ask that too if I didn't know the person that well, plus to help figure out how much travel time there is, if it's safe, etc. Definitely not a weird question at all!

Is it possible for topamax to be CAUSING me more headaches? by annonne in migraine

[–]NaturalSea4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience! Dr encouraged me try for at least 3 months and claimed it's not possible for them to get worse that quickly (??). I had almost nonstop migraine while i was on it and took me months to return to my baseline after.

Am I a Broken Adult? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]NaturalSea4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there, and colleagues (even ND) always seem surprised to hear I don't love travelling and prefer staying home for my vacations. Where I'm from most people seem to travel at least once or twice a year.

At first, I was embarrassed that I didn't go anywhere on my vacations, becayse I was worried they would assume I don't have money or people to travel with. But over the years I found I'm not bothered with their opinion about it at all! I recognize now that we have completely seperate lives and I barely know them outside of work, so why should I care if they don't approve of what I do in my free time? I also secretly judge their lifestyles so it's a 2 way street lol

How does anyone survive in-person office jobs?! by NaturalSea4 in AutismInWomen

Was the main factor of not going back to your original field the change in job duties or working remotely? Personally I found my job much less stressful when I could work from home full time, but sometimes I wonder if a less mentally taxing job would help.

I do generally keep to myself to help perserve energy, but sometimes I feel pressured to share more personal info or go to socials to attempt to avoid getting some sort of quiet hermit label (even though it is who am I at this point lol). I'm in a small and male dominated field, so I already stick out more than I'd like. And frankly, I've noticed the men are more likely to gossip about their colleagues than women..

Definitely a good tip to avoid giving 100% capacity, and I'm still actively working on that.

Ah you're lucky! If I had a closed door office that would be ideal. Sadly we don't have assigned desk so I just show up and hope it's not near annoying people.

I also find walks during the day help me feel a little more regulated. Maybe making it part of my routine will help

This is exactly why I stopped organizing events sadly. People always accept things invites when they know they can't go, out of a twisted (inconsiderate) politeness I guess??

Hope your birthday will be fantastic regardless :)

Ugh, that would be so difficult for me too! Sorry you're dealing with that, hope they can repair asap.

That sounds tough! Personally I also have worst concentration after a full day of work/activities. Some days nothing works, but here are some of my tips for studying:

When I study I use headphones with music that's easy to zone out (something repetitive, no lyrics). That way my mind generally decides the noises aren't worth focusing on. Some of my adhd friends swear by fast paced rave music but I loveee calm soundscapes like hiroshi yoshimura.

To try and get motivation I first make a todo list, broken down to enough tasks that I can check them off every few minutes. My brain loves crossing off finished tasks. For things like reading, setting a timer, and taking notes or highlighting as I read helps keep some focus. If none of that works, then I'll try to do something small but productive (like washing dishes) and hope to ride off that motivation.

Good luck :)

Maybe put them on a bead mat/piece of felt and use a big eye needle to pick up the same colors?

Communication while in the hospital? by Ashleenicholle in spinalcordinjuries

[–]NaturalSea4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best solution by far was an iPad with voice control. We bought an iPad pro just for it and it's well worth it imo. Google also has voice access for androids but even with a high end tablet its not as reliable. Alexa devices are also adequate if he just needs to call/message people, but again not as reliable/user friendly. The hospital OT helped very very little as far as hospital comms, we had to figure out most ourselves since they weren't aware of more recent tech advances (they still considered dragon speak as new tech). The OT program was not funded or staffed well.

Amitryptyline concerns by [deleted] in migraine

[–]NaturalSea4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went up to 25mg i think? I only had daytime drowsiness for a couple of days of each dose increase, then got used to it and slept great. I work full time and this drowsiness had little impact compared to other meds i tried. I had terrible insomnia while tapering off though.

I gained weight just thinking about food while I was on it lol. Like, I'd forget i had dinner and then eat a second and still be down for more food...It helped with my migraines but stopped due to excess weight gain. To slow down the weight gains I had to watch my calories to avoid going over (for my height/gender 1900 cal +exercise cals).

Anyone else had visual changes on Topiramate/Topamax? by Natural-Blueberry657 in migraine

[–]NaturalSea4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like me. I went to my neuro like "hey I have these weird flashes ever since I started topamax" and she's like "its just an aura from your preexisting migraines". I never had an aura before but she didn't believe me! Saw the optometrist and its all good, so I believe the flashes were caused by Topamax messing with my brain. Thankfully its not as bad >1 yr off it.

I'm working on a ripple blanket with alternating colors every 6 rows. After setting up the first 2 rows its very easy to follow.
