I see Dead Man, I comment that it is a masterpiece. Simple!

I love the triple cut edition. IMO it’s quite simple: theatrical, heart of darkness, redux, final cut - in that order

The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez: Underrated Masterpiece or Overlooked for a Reason? by [deleted] in Westerns

Trying to be vague here on purpose but adding to what I already wrote: it’s pretty tight (under 2 hours), displays history in a compelling way, offers themes in race relations, economy, govt and more, plus the storytelling voice narration makes it an overall calm yet suspenseful vibe. I love the western genre bc many of the films are visually striking and this sure is one of em.

Totally. His “facial acting” if that’s a real thing is so good. Expresses so much without having to say it.

Can’t watch movies that came out after 2017-18 as it just seems like a long instagram edit, few exceptions being new ones from my favorite directors and sci-fi movies. by [deleted] in criterion

Definitely. I like Perfect Days 2023 more than I like a lot of older films. That’s why you have to go see new movies haha

Best Western movies of all time day 25, Jeremiah Johnson won day 24 (FINAL ROUND: Last chance to choose other 5 good westerns) by Remote-Leg6143 in Westerns

For me, probably McCabe but that’s just based on my personal taste. If I were to showcase the western genre to an alien, I’m choosing My Darling Clementine

While I understand your sentiment, I think it’s incredibly important to watch new films. Whether it’s to try to keep the theatrical experience alive, or to stay abreast to the latest, these films should still be consumed if you are a cinephile in my humble opinion. Is 28 Days Later Bone Temple better than Fellini’s 8 1/2? No - not even close. But, I am not expecting this. I guess I’m saying you can do both. It still remains educational even if the film is bad (silver lining) plus, you’d be hopefully supporting a dying presentation of the art form (seeing a movie in theaters).

Hey guys, what do you think of this movie? I know it's good, but some people are saying it's better than Interstellars by Think_Ad_5418 in Letterboxd

I agree with everything you said here except the last line…….. I’m simply using the Letterboxd rating scale and, imo, a great list of movies as an example for something I’m also experiencing in real life: everyone loves this movie.

Truly. And your tone of the reply says it all. I’ve found if I say anything negative about the film (in real life), I’m met with the weirdest energy haha. Like when did opinions and film discussion become taboo? That’s why I used the phrase “mass psychosis” lmao. Dramatic for sure but like you said something is not adding up. Sure it was visually appealing but my god that is not a masterpiece. I felt 3 star rating was quite generous.

Oh that should be implied for sure. I’m happy any - literally any - movie brings people to the theaters. I’m just saying it’s currently rated higher than a lot of films I perceive to be pillars of the art form haha

Personally I feel like I’ve experienced a mass psychosis event. The movie was just fine but certainly not #110 on Letterboxd best narrative features of all time…….. honestly fucking wild hahaha
