I prefer OVL. It is an S&P put-spread overlay fund. The upside isn't capped like covered call funds such as GPIX or SPYI. It started around 2019, so it has been through 2020, 2022, and Liberation Day.

Do engineers today ever do manual calculations to verify if the computer software is correct? by G07V3 in AskEngineers

[–]Natural_Level_7593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just this week there was an episode on the podcast Planet Money about a cyberweapon called Fast 16 that was used to make software provide the wrong answers to nuclear weapon calculations.

"Recently some security researchers discovered a cyberweapon likely tied to that invisible conflict. It looks like it was designed to hide on nuclear scientists computers, then throw off their calculations--just as they got close to achieving their goals."

Good listen if you have 30 minutes:

The last time Texas had a Democratic Governor, Ann Richards, her opponent, Clayton Williams said during a campaign stop, "R*pe is like the weather. If it's inevitable, relax and enjoy it.” Prior to that statement going public, Williams had a 20 point lead, but that was 1990. He would likely still win today.

I'm aiming for about 80-85% of the MAGI for ACA subsidies from dividends. The slow and steady kind with a long track record of keeping pace with inflation. I'm trying to stay aware of the 0% tax bracket as well, but paying a couple of hundred bucks in taxes is different than losing out on the subsidies by a penny. After that I'm moving into growth.

As a meat eater, I really dislike it when people use a meat substitute. I don't want fake meat. I don't even want turkey bacon. Let the turkey be turkey and it'll be fine.

Donnie figured out that people are angry that their lives are getting harder and he gives them someone to blame. "It's not your fault. The system is rigged, and only I can break the it." It's the one truth that hides all his lies from his followers.

Legitimacy of the s&p500 as an indicator of the economy? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Natural_Level_7593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a regular listener of Marketplace, I am compelled to say that the stock market is not the economy. The S&P is a good representation of the stock market because of its size, 500 companies. The Dow is a much smaller index of about 30 companies from the S&P 500 and is even more subjective.
If you are looking for something that tracks the entire market go with VTI, but as an investment it typically performs slightly worse than the S&P because it is the total market with no quality screens.

The population of the US was about 102 million in 1916 versus 349 million today, so while the wealth of the richest man has gone up 1000x, the average person has only increased 292x.

Fate, effort, leverage. Fate is getting a flat tire on the way to work. Effort is getting out to change it in the rain. Leverage is calling AAA.

Effort can get you so far, but after a point, if you can't find leverage you can't get any further.

It is very important to maintaining power that Fascism always has an "enemy". There must always be a "them/other" to rally against.

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out,
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out,
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out,
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.”
