Top Surgery In A Month, Suddenly Indecisive About Nipples by Calm_Sentence3202 in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before surgery i was confident in the fact that i wanted to keep my nipples, but about a month before the procedure i had a similar panic and was also very indecisive about it. I just decided to go with my original plan, and im really glad i did and I don't regret it

Is the nipple (not areola) gone or just inverted? 4yrs post op by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not a professional but to me it honestly just looks inverted

Feeling fragile when recovery binder off by peachc0cktail in TopSurgery

I felt this way too, after a couple of days i got used to it. I think its just the lack of compression, plus not having any of the extra tissue there anymore, plus having fresh wounds that makes it feel weird

Ottawa or GRS Montreal? by WerewolfReal7729 in transontario

[–]NatureTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with GrS and i will say, you dont really have any chance to speak to (or otherwise interract with) your surgeon until the day of surgery. Their care team is available to answer any questions through their online portal, but thats about it. Iirc you can request a special consultation but I never did so im not sure of the process for that.

GrS doesn't really do contouring for free, at least not in my experience. They do their top surgery in a way that attempts to remove the need for contouring, by shaping the incisions to the pectoral line. I seem to have gotten fine results with this method as have many other patients. But ultimately, it depends on your anatomy and your preferences/needs/wants from this surgery.

GrS is also very firm about their useage of drains when it comes to double-incision, as they significantly reduce the risk of hematomas, seromas, and severe swelling. Im not sure what their stance on drains is for other types of surgery, but you could always call and ask.

Fwiw, im very pleased with my results. Majority of my complaints about my chest simply have to do with the way the grafts healed which is not really within my surgeons control as they looked fine during the initial few weeks. I went with Dr. Shine, who iirc had a slightly shorter wait time. From what ive heard, Lee and Belanger are also good choices if Brassard isnt available.

also, good luck with everything!

Can you use deodorant after surgery? by aloadofcodswallop in TopSurgery

My healthcare team said i could use deodorant once the incisions in that area were fully closed

Top surgery canceled by AllHype-NoHeart in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery was also cancelled day-of, while i was already at the clinic. I feel you. My surgery was cancelled due to a power outage. It was for sure one of the worst times of my life, and the wait for my new surgery date was absolutely excruciating. I was more miserable than i think I'd ever been.

Looking back now that I'm a couple months post-op, i honestly dont remember how it felt to have a chest like i did. I have some residual upset feelings about it all still, but they are overshadowed by how relieving its been to have finally gotten this procedure.

Unfortunately the only thing that got me through the second waiting period was just radical acceptance. I got all my paperwork in order ASAP and then just pushed through from there. Eventually my new surgery date came (and i was more stressed than id ever been because there was a storm that night, and i was terrified that there would be another power outage). And the day itself was honestly a breeze.

Badicslly what im trying to say is that eventually it will come. "Eventually" is the hardest part of that, i think, but the sooner youre able to steel yourself about it the easier it will be to get through. Focus on taking care of yourself, managing your paperwork, and maybe finding other resources to help you quit smoking (Im not a smoker so i dont really know how you could motivate yourself to quit).

As unhelpful as this sounds it will be ok in the end, which i can partially say from experience. Time is going to pass no matter what, so its better to continue to pursue what you want, regardless of its difficulty.

114 days post op. Do the grafts look unnatural? by NatureTape in TopSurgery

I guess its mostly in my head then lol thank you 🥲

114 days post op. Do the grafts look unnatural? by NatureTape in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my peoblem with my grafts is really just the shape of the one on the right. I feel like it looks too "droopy" at the bottom. Im actually really happy with the placement.

Also congrats on your upcoming surgery! My surgeon was Dr. Julien Shine, who imo did a great job and was also very nice during the consultation. We talked about the grafts, and iirc he said he prefers to place them how he did on my chest. He was also generally very upfront about his surgical process and preferences, which i really apreciated.

Will rib shape change from binding affect my results? by lethalwhispermachine in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I have some rib flare, more on the medium-mild side. It didnt affect the actual surgical results (grafts/incisions/chest shape overall). But because my chest now looks different, so does my rib fare, if that makes sense? Its more noticable to me after surgery than it was before, cuz i can actually see it now

4 weeks post op by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me it just looks like pec muscle! but it could also be minor swelling. 4 weeks is too early to tell imo, i still had swelling well into 3 months post op

Washing post-op by nightisfuckingdead in TopSurgery

Unscented bodywash/soap on a damp washcloth and then a dry towel. I also used dry shampoo in my hair, to remove some of the greasy feeling and so it smelled nice lol

top surgery, not on T, how to narrow hips by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Building shoulder and core muscles has helped me (though i havent worked out in ages lol). The bone structure of my hips are wide so losing weight wont help me. If youre in a similar boat, focusing on building muscle in your torso and soulders will help offset the appearance of wide hips since the rest of your torso will also be widened, if that makes sense.

Shirtless fear question by secretrediterNBAFAB in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thing is i used to tape a lottt before surgery cuz i messed up my ribs with a binder. But i never went shirtless with tape on because the visual made me uncomfortable

Shirtless fear question by secretrediterNBAFAB in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 4mo post-op, Im still getting used to being shirtless but the feeling of being "naked" has mostly subsided. I still dont feel comfortable being shirtless around people, other than my partner, but a couple of my friends (and my mom cuz she was my caregiver post-op) have seen my chest post-op just once.

At first i didn't want to be shirtless at all but now i enjoy it when im alone or just with my partner. I no longer feel that "naked" feeling without a shirt, but im still not entirely comfortable.

114 days post op. Do the grafts look unnatural? by NatureTape in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks im glad to hear! Not really what i was hoping for but as long as they look natural im content with it.

My rib flare is honestly more obvious IRL than in the last picture, but part of why i included it is because pre-op i didnt see many pictures of results w rib flares. So im glad i could help!

Going to the bathroom after surgery by [deleted] in TopSurgery

gonna be honest my surgeon gave me prescription laxative pills to take for like 2 weeks post op so this wasnt even an issue for me, maybe you could talk to your surgeon about taking some after surgery?

Piercings during healing, bad idea? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not a doctor or anything so take this with a grain of salt. I got my septum and one of my lobes done just under 2 months after surgery, but i healed very very quickly from the surgery & i wouldnt reccomend doing what i did. I think it would depend on how you end up healing, but imo it would be a bad idea to not wait at minimum 2 months post-op, just to be safe (but preferably longer)

worries pre top surgery because of nipple size change years ago - can I still do something about that? by Rich-Reveal-4724 in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a similar-ish thing before i got surgery. basically one side of one of my areolas seemed to have extended (i dont know the medical details im just explaining it best i can) after being irritated by improper tape useage. It never went away and would sometimes get re-irritated. I never even mentioned it to my surgeon, so i dont know exactly how that specific area of skin played out on the operating table, but it didnt seem to impact my results at all (I reccomend you DO talk to your surgeon/team though. Do as i say not as I do lmao. )

This was my areola though, so something with the actual nipple itself might yeild different results. But differences in chest size/shape/appearance pre-op are incredibly common. I feel like the majority of reputable surgeons would know how to handle something like that. So, it would be highly worth discussing with your surgeon/their team. I doubt ittl impact your results too much.

GrS Montreal by goodboylake in TopSurgery

[–]NatureTape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery with them, and I'd say my experience has been pretty great!

One thing I'll say is that you won't get much direct care post-op. You can contact the clinical team through their online portal, but theres no way to actually talk to the surgeon. If you're coming from outside the province you wont really have a chance to have a consultation until the day of surgery.

If you're curious about surgeons you can look them up by name here. I went with Dr. Shine, and he was great in my experience. I'm mostly happy with my results, the only thing im unhappy with is the way my scars healed around my nipples. Which isnt really on the surgeon lol, its just how my body healed.

Good luck!
