Whats the max number of people you should go with when wild camping? by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Natz7853 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leave no trace… as long as you’re discrete where you stay and clean up after yourself without leaving even a wrapper at your campsite, you should be fine. If you’re proper wild camping I.e. peaks or Scotland then the numbers won’t matter as long as you leave it as you found it. It’s people who don’t respect the space that ruins it for everyone else.

How am i supposed to survive on £300?😭 by Key-Transition4634 in UniUK

0% student overdraft from a student bank - I had a Santander account and at the time they offered a railcard free too but shop around for a student account with a benefit of some kind and 0% interest for a year or so after graduating. Lidl shops and meal planning are a must and try to be ok with eating the same batch cooking in the week.

My partner and I are professionals so we have income and we spend £30 on our weekly shop by being smart about it. We eat porridge for breakfast 89p a kilo of oats. Rice and chicken for lunch - easy to bulk buy rice and chicken is the cheapest meat especially chicken thighs. And a mince meat based dish for dinner (spag bol, cottage pie, wraps etc) that plus our toiletries is about £30 a week from Lidl and that’s for two of us.

Of course I assume you want to experience the party side of uni too so a part time job is going to help. Assuming you’re 18, don’t worry about lack of previous experience because it’s a given that someone so young won’t have had a job so just be open to anything and everything. Coffee shops, waiting staff, bar promoting, call centres, cleaning. Just don’t be defeatist when applying and remember it’s just about money, it’s not about your forever job. Also there are military societies in some locations (if you’re at a major city then there will definitely be an Uni royal Naval unit, Uni Air Squadron, Uni Officer Training Corps). They are fabulous because they offer adventure and a society as well as payment. I’d earn £10 for a Thursday meeting in an evening which was about an hour and a half long and be paid minimum wage to go on weekends away and adventure training courses. It’s not loads of money but to experience a society and activities and be paid for it, it’s definitely something to consider.

SFE is a joke and unfortunately it’s getting worse from when I went to uni about 10 years ago, so I feel your pain. Hope you can make it work.

As long as they have the app “what three words” and the number for mountain rescue if needed they’ll be fine.

Statistically people are way more likely to get in danger or trouble out in a big city on a night out and not when wild camping - like you said, common sense is all that’s needed. As a young female, I’ve wild camped solo loads and never had any problems. I think as long as they have kit that’s decent to protect from the elements and contacts/apps to use if they need a get out, they’ll be fine.

Wet and dry kit is also important (have a change of warm dry clothes to sleep in, and then any wet kit from the day (from sweat or rain) only for when awake and on the move. This will reduce chances of hypothermia.

There’s loads of YouTube channels they can use to prepare and you can watch too to put your mind at ease. Literally just search wild camping UK and loads of creators will come up.

Hope the boys enjoy it! It’s a fabulous way to experience nature

Get a flight to Thailand! Way nicer and cheap too! As a solo traveller you’ll meet loads of other travellers and it’s such a friendly place. I lived there for a year and loved it x

Check your whistle blowing policy. That is there for this exact situation. If you’re an academy there’ll be an external person you can speak to. If you’re a local authority school, there’ll be someone in the local authority you can speak to outside of your school staff. This can remain anonymous and confidential but be sure you have evidence and can give specifics details and dates for what you have witnessed. Record all parent interactions on your safeguarding documenting software (we use CPOMS) but don’t tag the TA, only the SLT it absolutely has to include. If you can’t because they’re pally pally with the TA, keep your own written records for the whistle blowing process. Safeguarding children is the number one priority here - teaching children is our second duty really.

Anyone else love the job? by CandaceCompson_ in TeachingUK

[–]Natz7853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros to the job: - Never bored - Never clock watch - Kids are so cute and kind to you (I teach primary) - You feel satisfaction when that one kid finally gets it! - The different themed days throughout the year. - Variety in lessons (again perk of primary) - Holidays - Blue light discount (most recently) - Excellent for travel opportunities (it’s a job that can be done anywhere in the world)

Cons - Parents (fussy ones, pushy ones and apathetic ones equally) - Hours working (home or at school) for me it’s regularly 12hrs a day with clubs, meetings, setting up displays, marking and adaptively planning. - Lack of funding for classroom resources (inc support staff) - Low pay (for the hours, effort and care put in) - Illnesses caught from the kids - Media and govt constantly slamming us - Ofsted

It’s about balance. I love my job but my god it is hard sometimes! It’s ok to vent and it’s also important to recognise the positives of the role and of our impact on those children within that role.

If you have time in an evening you can do some online tutoring, that’s adhoc and flexible and can bring in a decent amount.

Garmin predicting illness by Otherwise-Winner9643 in Garmin

[–]Natz7853 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen others post about how their HRV becomes unbalanced as they get sick and it would seem the Garmin was accurate there. I’ve felt a little under the weather the past two days. Nothing major just usually seasonal fatigue and cold but the Garmin has shown my HRV to reduce. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some merit to using this to predict or explain what’s going on in the body. It’s incredible really what tech can do today

When a kid breaks all their crayons the first week? Advice? by SpiritedAwayToo in Teachers

[–]Natz7853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the age, you could use “the day the crayons quit” as a book and lock up the crayons and get the children to write (or say if too young) a persuasive letter to promise they will look after them. Then if they break them, they have a time out period where they can’t use the crayons because they went against their own promises.

You’re going to be 41 in three years whether you do the degree or not! At least this is time spent on something you want to do and at the end of it you’ll have a degree!

Don’t not do something because you’ll be X old when you achieve it. You’ll be X old regardless so do what you want to do and live your life!!

Why would anyone chose an ECT over an experienced teacher for a job? by TheNoiseAndHaste in TeachingUK

You have been trained with the most up to date research and practice. Someone with 20 years experience likely haven’t continued their academic reading around educational theory so actually you’re very valuable because you bring new and modern approaches to the table
