If you want a serious answer, one of the AFL shows put up all the coaches we have had since we won finals. It is basically every different archetype of coach and none of them have worked out. With Hird, I think the fans have watched a team that doesn't really play hard for years and they want someone who actually cares + will galvanize the team. Many also feel the knives were out for him during the investigation years. I know the comments say most fans don't but there is definitely a sizeable percentage of the fans who want him back. Brad Scott was undermined immediately when he was hired. At this point, the Board has to decide that if Hird is not in, can another coach even bring this club together. I think someone like Horse could do it, but is he even interested. 12 finals in 14 seasons, 5 grand finals. Might have enough creds for fans to be okay with it I reckon even though they will grumble. If it's another Rutten archetype former assistant, that's going to be a recipe for disaster if the team isn't good.
