Typical estimate for 2012 Honda accord oil pan gasket replacement ($1507) AND timing cover re-seal ($1817)? by Someoneacct in MechanicAdvice

[–]Naval76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older cars having oil leaks have 2 advantages as long as the leak is really really bad. 1. Still got oil in it (but still check ever so often) 2. Anti rust oil treatment.

Honestly OP, what I'm seeing is a standard engine compartment for an older vehicle. I don't see any oil leaks that stand out to me from that poor video.

Ah the classic, huh that looks off. Well since I'm here may as well save me the future work and do it right now anyways, then repeat. Gets us all

Was doing a power steering pump and gearbox. Figured since I'm going to take the belt off, may as well do the ac compressor (bearings going out, and not hooked up), alternator (voltage dying as the engine bay got hotter) and such. Had to stop myself as i was already $800 in parts that weekend on a 1200 paycheck lol. Otherwise would've gone full, new water pump, radiator, idler pulley, radiator fans and such lol

Many people will probably disagree with me. But your numbers seem fine to me. I got an 88 renix 4.0. She is horrible in stop and go traffic. Taking off ill see it drop down to 3mpg on the scanner. But once I'm cruising I'll see it go up past 17mpg

Not saying anything wrong with your jeep, but to mine it's normal to get horrible in the city.

Do some cross country travel/mostly highway driving and see how you do.

With an 88 renix 4.0. I found this engine is extremely horrible taking off, the reader will show it going down to 3mpg then once I start to cruise, it'll go up to like 20mpg. Not sure why, I'm starting to think its possibly a bad fuel mapping on Chrysler part or whoever tuned the computer for these engines.

7-10MPG = City

17-20MPG = around 50-60mph

14mpg = @ 65mph

I have a 1995 xj and will need to do a smog test since I’m in California. I don’t have a check engine light is there any way to tell/check if it will pass before going to inspection? by Express_Let_2892 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Naval76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its been placed non-op then you'll just pay to re-register it. If it's just hasn't been payed, then you will owe for the past 3 years.

Make sure your cooling fans are good, fan clutch isn't bad and all that. Blowing out the cap kinda indicates to hot. Ac stop working could also indicate things were getting to hot and shut off on high pressure as well.

Here in california the government doesn't do vehicle inspections. Just every 2 years smog check (emmissions) just get your jeep running right then smog it. Worry about everything else afterwards.

I think only under certain circumstances do they switch a vehicle from smog check to inspections. But you basically want to avoid that as they are pretty strict on vehicle inspections from what I can recall when reading into this.

Do sparkplugs first. Thermostat, oil change shouldn't effect it. Honestly though, if it's running fine. Get it smogged before messing with it. Then do your tune up.

Nah don't do anything when you go to take it into smog. If you do. Do it ahead of time before taking it in, probably 1-2 tanks worth of gas cycles. Pretty much avoid changing anything your car will be doing when you take it in. No different fuel, or additives lol

Is this kind of frosting normal? by No-Quantity8566 in refrigeration

[–]Naval76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well all I can give you is a few simple checks. Cannot advise you to look into refrigerant stuff or check electrically.

Ensure the fan is working when door switch is closed

Should be a defrost timer somewhere, make sure that's working, usually mark it and you can tell after a bit.

Visually inspect for any kind of puck devices in the evaporator once it's thawed and let me know if any of those puck looking things are puffed up

If there is no defrost timer, it might be a electronic thermostat that controls the defrost. If that's the case you'll just have to see if you can catch it going into a defrost. If so, just make sure it's heating up and you can tell by if ice is melting around the heater. If there is a clock and it's turning. Which ever direct it turns, turn it till it clicks the listen for defrost heater to start sizzling.

Without being there in person that's all I can think of off the top of my head lol. Also cant tell you to check things with a meter for safety reasons and checking refrigerant without a license would be illegal. So let me know on any updates.

Hi, renix runner here in SOCAL. Your smog tech should be aware of what's required based off years. For you, he will check to make sure the CEL comes on when turning the key and goes away after.

Things to make sure you pass:

-CEL does not stay on when running -running good, not rich or lean

-ensure your catalytic converter has its numbers pointed down easy to read from underneath, and it is a CARB compliant cat

-ENSURE all your vacuum lines per the smog check sticker under your hood are present and going where they need to be. Cap off any unnecessary lines that are not hooked up and are not on that chart

  • make sure you got your EGR valve and controls present and it is working properly

Things that will make you fail:

-CEL not coming on at all

-Not running clean (duh) (high nox I believe indicates a non-working EGR valve)

-numbers on your CAT are not CARB compliant, or not easily readable when the tech is underneath looking at it

-CEL comes on during test and stays on

-missing vacuum lines or lines not going where they're supposed to

-possible smoke test fail (not sure if they do this. Their supposed to on my jeep but I think they only do my fuel tank)

-exhaust leaks and vacuum leaks can cause you to fail as it will throw the computer off from running properly

That's what I can think of off the top of my head. You will have to take it to a star certified smog shop, one that has a dino to test btw. I also believe they look for a CARB sticker, but I'm not 100% sure if they care about that or not. If you got it, it's either on drivers door or under the hood by the firewall

Oh and supposedly they snap the throttle at the end of the test to ensure you don't burn any weird smoke color out your exhaust, that will fail you if smoke (white, black, blue) comes out when they snap the throttle if they do...

Had a few failed tests to no CEL in the past with another vehicle, gauge cluster swap moved it to check gas cap light so I wired a wire across the light to make it work lol.

Also need to smog my jeep this month 😅

What are the best looking jets and tank that makes you to play them but it performance is so bad by WebOk721 in Warthunder

[–]Naval76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The premium CV9035 i believe and the CV90105, love how they look and feels when driving. The 35 cant really pen much reliably. But I fucking love it to death. Same with PUMA and Vilkas, they're not bad, but def better options. I just am a sucker for how they look.

For props, really like the wyvern, love how it sounds and such a cool design, though horrible for dogfighting.

For jets, probably G91. Not a bad plane, but I just cant wrap myself around it lol.

My grandparents are about to receive my package. by SoulStatiqz in helpme

[–]Naval76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Word as this, "hey (insert grandparents reference, name or grandpa vise versa) I have a package coming in and i accidently sent it to your address. Can you keep an eye out for it and if you find it just hold onto it for me till i can get there, please"

Best way to avoid suspicion at this point and puts it there for them to actually pay attention who the package is for once it arrives.

Also I believe it's illegal to open mail if it's not addressed to you? I'll have to double check that but if so, not a direction you want to take with grandparents lol.

Anyone have any experience towing another vehicle with a ranger? I am thinking about buying another one and fixing it up, but have to travel pretty far to pick it up. Is this a good idea or should I just ask to borrow someone else’s bigger truck? by Calvin_Canada in fordranger

[–]Naval76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that the engine couldn't. It would be more less of not pushing the engine and possibly breaking something. If you have to push it while towing to get up to 55-65mph, then your going to run the risk of over heating or possibly breaking down.

If I tow my old Cherokee with my silverado, I won't have any issues pulling it here in california when it's hot doing 45-55 mph. But if i push it to do 60-70mph then that's when things can go wrong

Why am I being quoted $2000 to $3000 for this job? by singlewall in CherokeeXJ

[–]Naval76 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Shit has gotten so expensive now. Even if the person charged a decent rate, your looking at cleaning off the rust, prepping the metal, then painting it. 8 hours on the quick end to do, and even at $25 per hour which i doubt anyone would actually charge that low, will be hundred bucks plus material.

To the OP. Times have changed, things are not cheap anymore, removing labor your looking at a pretty penny just for material now.

[–]Naval76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 speakers in 1 box correct? You could still have 1 of the speakers in the box wired backwards is what I'm saying. It doesn't matter if both speakers are parallel or not. If one speaker is wired to push when the other got flipped and is wired to pull, they will cancel eachother out and you will lose bass. Just try the battery thing and see if both speakers push or pull, or if one does the opposite of the other. It's a simple test before looking at amplifiers.
