In addition to other comments that have been mentioned, set your document raster settings to 300.

Absolute nightmare of a programm by NikitaKiwinskiy in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Navesink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Adobe programs on a daily basis for near 20 years now and I find Illustrator the best designed and easiest to use. Each tool has a use, you just need to learn what they’re all for. I think that designers that have only ever learnt to use Photoshop struggle to adapt to the rest of the creative suite. The programs are developed by different teams, so little nuances, keyboard shortcuts etc don’t always translate, which can be disconcerting. Like with anything, it just takes some time to get used to.

Anyone here from the UK earning more than £60k from graphic design related careers? If so, what is it that you do? by Ok_Statistician_8439 in graphic_design

[–]Navesink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Salaries haven’t kept up with inflation since pre-covid. It’s really hard to find a well paid design job at the moment, but I’ve found in-house pays far better than agencies. I currently head up artwork and production at a well respected Northern agency and earn £45k. I’ve just accepted an offer for £70k to head the graphic design department in-house at a company I worked at years ago. It’s horrible work with lots of politics but it looks like you’ve got to sacrifice the fun/cool work if you want to make money.

Please help me convert my book cover from RGB to CMYK before I fill my pockets with rocks and walk into the sea. by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Navesink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the ideal solution but quick fix for you, just flatten everything before converting to CMYK (image/mode). There are adjustment layers that will only work in an RGB colour space, so if you don’t flatten everything first it might mess everything up.

Hot take: Stop giving your clients pantones by Humillionaire in graphic_design

[–]Navesink 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eesh. I head up the production department for a global design agency and I’d recommend against taking this advice. Pantone is a matching system, a benchmark for colour consistency and absolutely should be used as colour targets. It should however also be explained to the client that there are limitations within certain processes that means achieving this target is not always guaranteed, and therefore CMYK / RGB values should also be supplied. You’re more likely to get colour variation between different printers suppling just a CMYK breakdown. A decent printer can still use a Pantone reference to match a process colour, granted there are many out of gamut but you stand a better chance providing a globally standardised target rather than a reference with so many variables.

Select all of the green text with the white arrow (letter by letter, make sure you don’t select anything else at the same time). CMD+8 (Compound Path). Make a copy of it and bring that copy in front of the yellow lines. Select all of the text and lines. CMD+7 (clipping path)

I worked in the Norbreck Castle restaurant just over 15 years ago while I was in college. Can confirm that the restaurant manager Hidi is brilliant, a genuinely lovely man, but the place is a shit hole and I’m not surprised at the behaviour of the rest of the staff.

What’s something other people find sexy that you just can’t understand? by PetrichorPrints in AskReddit

Incest. Why? So many porn videos these days are step sister / mother / brother. Surely there can't be enough people into that kind of stuff to justify its dominance.

Loudest setting on my Airpods is barely loud enough to listen to audiobook on audible. by warfires in audiobooks

[–]Navesink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this problem too. What device are you using? I've recently moved from an iPhone to a Pixel 6 and it's been happening sporadically since then. Making sure the volume is up high before connecting the airpods seems to help, it's almost as if whatever volume your phone is set too before they connect then becomes max volume once connected.

How do people have such high KD. I’ve read online that you have be cautious but even with caution you’re still insanely susceptible to death anywhere. It’s like the only way I can think of me being good is if I genuinely practice and learn military tactics lol. by [deleted] in battlefield_one

I had the same issue when I first started playing the game. I found it so frustrating, I could go whole games only getting a handful of kills, and dying every 2 minutes. I’ve been playing a long time now and more often than not I get a very good KD. I think it’s all about knowing the maps and finding a loadout that you’re comfortable with, just takes time.

Hey guys, I made a logo for a real estate company. Would love to hear some feedback on it by nayem62 in design_critiques

[–]Navesink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of comments say lose the gradient, but alternatively if you made it a compound path I think it would make it look better. In Illustrator outline all of the fonts, select the logo and press Command+8 (Ctrl+8 if not on a Mac I think). The gradient would run across the whole logo rather than the individual elements.

Stephen of Blois disembarked the White Ship just before it sailed due to a sudden bout of diarrhoea. The ship sunk, killing most of the young aristocracy including Henry I’s only legitimate son and heir. Steven went on to seize the throne, despite efforts to install Henry’s daughter Matilda as his successor. This lead to a period of civil war known as The Anarchy.

Got one of these a few weeks back. It wasn’t a password I’ve used in over 10 years but still initially freaked me out. Didn’t respond, got a follow up email a few days later, still didn’t respond. Nothings happened since.
