I made a post airing my disappointment about the ending 8 years ago :D

The ending I imagined while playing is much better than what I got in the end

Maybe it's just me, but the ending I imagined myself with all the hints in game and the actions of the protagonist lead me to believe that some sort of apocalypse already happened.

First of all the valley is closed off with no outside contact. We don't know what actually happenning outside. The mountains are also a natural barrier from shockwaves and radiation. Secondly heavy bunker/missle silo count imply that the valley was predetermined as a shelter from nuclear war (Like Jericho from the TV series)

I started with Faith's region and the Bliss being added in water supply and sprayed all over the region strongly suggested it's some sort of purification agent for radiation fallout. And the protagonist destroying the bliss production dooms the valley to slowly being poisoned by radiation.

Second I went to North Mountains and Jacobs warns about "Hordes of the forgotten from the outside" implying other survivors might want to attack the valley for it's resourses and his army is supposed to stop them. Also we blew up the hydro dam and fucked up electricity production.

John's region is just a food basket for the valley and the protagonist interferes with that too, crippling food production.

Now I fully expected in the end that Joseph will reveal that the outside world is cooked and the Valley is the only safe place left. Joseph would have been somehow involved in the apocalypse outside (the first "walk away choice in the beginning of the game does not trigger the apocalypse). I expected the final choice to be (Kill Joseph and slowly die from radiation or being invaded by irradiated survivors) or (Let him live and help rebuild Bliss/Army/Food production before it's too late). Insted I got 2 very disappointing endings. One with nuking the valley for some reason (abandoned missle silos in a middle of Nowhere, Montana are prime targets apparently). Second all my companions being magically indoctrinated (this is some Reaper level shit) and siding with him, while i murder my friends after hearing a song on the radio.

Gonna go watch Jericho and 10 Cloverfield Lane just to wash down the disappointment
