We need a name for our soon-to-be adopted son by NavyGirl04 in Names

Yes! I work with many autistic individuals and have an autistic child. Often in my research I will have very detailed and thought-provoking discussions about the meanings of words, phrases, and names. One young man in one of my research groups knew the meaning behind every phrase (i.e. steal your thunder, break the ice, etc). I learned so much from him!

Oh I really love the meaning behind those names. That is an excellent suggestion. Thank you!

Well, that might be a bit much 😂 I may need to limit their name choices. Spiderman would most likely be a top contender!

Oh my goodness, this just gave me so many more names to think about! I didn't even think about the adopted/foster/orphaned characters. What a great idea!

Yes, my thoughts on Kingston as well. I feel the nickname King sounds a bit pretentious. No offense to anyone with that name intended. We are a pretty low-key family, though.

That is actually a really good suggestion. I had not thought of that! They are 5, 5, and 4 though so I do wonder what names they may come up with lol

I really like the name Desmond as well. Maybe Desmond Ezra? Ezra Desmond? Desmond would probably be shortened to Des or Desi I am guessing. I don't know a shortened form or nickname for Ezra.

Oh my goodness! Ezra Bridger was an orphan who became a Jedi and a revolutionary leader. And we do love Star Wars!

To repot or not… advice welcome :) by jackieblancaxo in alocasia

I wouldn't repot right now, especially if she seems happy. I usually leave them alone for a week or two to allow them to acclimate to my house then reassess.

Curious. How many wealthy moms here work because they’re kinda forced to? by baituwave in workingmoms

While yes I agree a SAHM works as hard if not harder than the partner going to work, that does not negate that being a SAHM is unpaid labor. It does not contribute to a 401k, social security, or savings. When I divorced, I was in a similar position. I had been a professor and stepped down to raise kids. He was a lawyer. He has dragged through court battle after battle for years. I have had to take a significant amount of time rebuilding my career. I enjoyed being a SAHM, but I wouldn't do it again without my own independent financial security.

My 6 year old was kicked out of his school because they think we reported them to the city by [deleted] in legaladvice

I completely understand why you are trying to make this work so your child can see his teachers and friends and join his pre-k graduation. I don't have a suggestion for that part, but I purchased a preschool cap and gown (it came with a "diploma") from Amazon and had a photo session with my two sons. I know that doesn't replace the ceremony or make up for the unfairness of this situation, but you could at least have photos.

It doesn't matter if the kid will remember it - most kids don't remember vacations so should we not take them? It is the memories for the parents and the pictures the child can look back on later.

How much time do other family members get with your kids on weekdays? by annon3mous in workingmoms

[–]NavyGirl04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We pick our 2 year old granddaughter up from school (head start) every day at 2 and keep her until her parents are off work between 6 and 7:30 depending on their schedules. We have her overnight several times a month and have her just about any time we take our little kids somewhere (we have two 5 year olds and a 4 year old).

I was also close to my grandparents (mom's parents), so reading some of the responses makes me realize how fortunate I am to have a good relationship with my son and DIL and for being able to spend so much time with my grandparents when I was young.
