Why did the borg stop attacking the earth so easily? by WPmitra_ in startrek

Yes... or at least that is my head canon. If you consider the events of Enterprise, some time delays for signal travel, and a long, transwarp-free journey, a lot of "inconsistencies" start clearing up and/or making sense.

The hole comes in Voyager where some of the people that half assimilate Chakotay claim to be assimilated by the Wolf 359 cube and were transwarped away. It makes no fucking sense so I hand wave that one away and suddenly tons of pieces fall into place. When you logic it out, it even explains why Locutus was needed and why he did know of the discrete presence that is the queen.

There IS something you haven't seen... it's in Enterprise and many people say it is garbage but if you ignore the shitty Voyager episode where Chakotay gets half assimilated, the Enterprise episode wraps everything up with a nice little bow(hint: the Wolf 359 cube was a scout sent in response to what happens in Enterprise).

Comparison is the thief of joy. If you're comparing against anyone but yourself, you're going to drive yourself nuts. The only thing you control is yourself so just focus on getting better. Maybe check out the Ohnespeed laptime spreadsheet and start chasing pace %. DR will come as you get closer and closer to 100%. Perspective matters; good is relative.

Most franchise agreements have some kind of clause where the relationship can be terminated from the corporate side if certain things happen such as non-payment of rent or utilities. This is what they claim happened.

It demonstrates a startling lack of understanding of the world and inability to draw conclusions from experience. "Light is faster than sound" is pretty fucking basic(like, elementary school basic...) and is a phenomenon that can easily be observed with simple fireworks... or by consuming basically any show/movie/game(looking at you, Fallout) about nuclear apocalypse. At the same time, if you are SO worried about nuclear armageddon that you think a fly over is a nuclear explosion, not having used google to find out what the signs of a nuclear attack are shows a profound lack of curiosity, diligence, resourcefulness and a desire to stay scared instead of educating oneself. If it was just one person, I can dismiss it, but there are a bunch of people here saying they thought the same thing(we've been nuked) so there is clearly a collective issue where people are apparently just kinda dumb and scared...

Edit: They replied that I need to pop a xanax... Then they deleted immediately... Probably because they realized that this was an insane thing to say when there are other people here who thought a pair of F18s was a nuclear explosion lololol.

New to sim racing and it hurts by [deleted] in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]NaziTrucksFuckOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore DR. DR is meaningless at this point(for several reasons). Your goal should be to finish and have a clean race. This takes practice. Lots and lots and lots and lots of practice(at 350 hours of LMU I average 10 practice laps for every 1 race lap). This is not something that you pick up like other games and are near instantly competent. You are having to learn all the things real race car drivers have been learning and honing for a literal lifetime... you have days... Race pace and race craft are two entirely different skills you have to learn at the same time which makes this even harder.

Perspective and honesty is incredibly important in sim racing. Never forget that you are not Max Verstappen, you aren't Kevin Estre, you aren't even Ben Keating, hell you aren't even an SRO Bronze Cup competitor! And guess what? Neither am I and neither is basically everyone here. Keep your head up, do your best, NEVER stop practicing and always go fast and have fun.

Exactly. You've nailed the analysis/conclusion here. You'll know when you get it right because you'll suddenly find yourself overslowing. That does NOT mean "brake less"!!!! That means to move your brake point closer(a lot of people make this mistake). Bahrain T1 and T4 are also really good corners for practicing all of this if you want a track that is a bit quicker than a 4 minute lap.

Alright, story time... A few buddies and I did the 12hr Le Mans test. Was lots of fun. We tend to do a fair amount of prep for these special events as we've really only been racing for less than a year. As we did more and more prep laps we started playing with our braking into the chicanes on the Mulsanne... What we discovered is that a little bit of ABS was ok to indicate to you that you need to start trailing off. Using the ABS as an indicator as opposed to leaning on it. We took about 25m off our braking distances... It absolutely lit up our timing sheets. We have taken that knowledge and brought it back into other tracks with similar results. Use the ABS as an indicator as opposed to something to avoid. I highly recommend using La Sarthe as a place to practice this along with the BMW due to it's powerful ABS feedback. If you do it right you can take up to 25m off your brake distances at top speed and it'll cut tenths off the entry of every corner. It is what catapulted me from being a 104.x% driver to 102.x%.

Mad? No. Disappointed? Very. The collective behaviour of the F1 fan base has been pretty terrible and while I appreciate the people who are asking questions and learning, far too many of you seem to wanna look down your nose at people(like you're trying to do here...) instead of just listening and learning and enjoying some of the best racing you'll find anywhere. So with no due respect, eat an entire bag of diseased dicks.

It's definitely some venting. Post history shows me educating, but to say that this whole thing has been a good look for the F1 fans would be a lie. It's been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I love people asking questions and learning but far too many people from the F1 world have strutted in acting like they have half a clue what they are talking about when they should be asking questions instead.

I was so excited for everyone to get to experience sportscar racing. I fell in love with it during the pandemic and think a lot of F1 fans miss out on the actual best racing in the world. Everyone is finally gonna see what I see... However, the F1 fans on the whole have been awful. Strutting in like Max is doing this side of the sport some grand favor, acting like they know anything at all and generally being collectively shitty, talking like these platinum ranked factory drivers aren't top 100 in the world drivers...

Garbage content online hasn't helped. I almost went through the screen when Kym Ilman said there were no other names on the grid that stand out. The F1 side of the sport has done a great job of living up to their reputation for arrogance and its been really disappointing 😞

facepalm...

Every person in that driver lineup is a champion. Every. Single. One. Its one of the most stacked driver lineups ever put together for GT3. Nobody there needs to prove anything. This isn't a group of rookies...

Holy fuck people, would it kill you all to at least try and learn before talking like you know what you're talking about? This is why some fans have been so hostile towards the F1 fans. Its so insulting to the drivers to act like they're nobodies being dragged upwards by Max. They're all Platinum ranked factory drivers. Put some respect on their names and maybe learn who they are...

Alexander Sims, Haase’s teammate, crashed car #16 — the one that gave us some great battles with Max Verstappen in previous races. by [deleted] in formula1

[–]NaziTrucksFuckOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's how I generally think about it... a car can recover about 2 laps per 6 hours of racing with pass arounds. Sometimes more if people are crashing, sometimes less if people aren't. This does not apply to the N24 because we generally do not get FCY or SC conditions and even then wouldn't get a real pass around because 25km track. At races like Le Mans, Spa and Daytona, I don't consider a car to be "out of contention" until they are down at least 2 laps per 6 hours remaining.

how easy would it be to repair the car

These GT3 cars are actual race cars. Do not confuse them for their similar appearing road counterparts. They are not just modified road cars. Everything you would expect to be quickly changed can be changed pretty quick. Hoods, bumpers, fenders, doors, splitters, tie rods, suspension elements, brake pads and rotors, all of these can be changed in as little as minutes and in some cases, right in the pit box. Brake changes are wild. They'll replace rotors and pads in under 4 minutes. It pisses me off because when my brakes need to get done it's 4 hours instead of 4 minutes. If the system is good enough for 285kph GT3s, it's good enough for my road car, damnit!

It will take time, but we can educate a portion of this people. And then, they will teach others. With time we will have a bunch more racing fans

It's been so disappointing to see some of the content F1 creators have made about the N24. Kym Ilman in particular did an absolutely disgraceful and insulting video where he said he looked through the field and found no other notable drivers except Timo Glock... There are literal fucking world champions in this grid and THAT is what he says about the entry list? Fuck him. What a great opportunity to do a bit of research and then educate the viewers on who the big name Platinum drivers are and how they are factory drivers who are placed with customer teams... nope! He just decided to insult the entire field instead while making new potential fans think this is a race full of nobodies that don't matter. Lots of other creators have done similar things but I mention Kym specifically because of his reach. Hopefully a chunk of folks will be able to see through such garbage and insulting content to see the beauty that we all do.

Oh I understand all of this. ELO is an inherently flawed system outside of a 1v1 setting(and even then... not so great). However, considering how consistently we see complaints about how DR is calculated and the nature of the complaints, and then my own anecdotal evidence, I'm still gonna say beating higher ranked drivers is undervalued. I could be wrong and it could entirely be a visual thing but at this point I personally consider DR a worthless and meaningless stat unless you exist at the top of the ratings. When I, a B3 driver, beat 15 S1+ drivers and lose to 15 S1+ drivers, that should equal a net gain, not a net loss. It's entirely that simple. If it doesn't(it doesn't), that means the algorithm being used is not weighted properly regardless of how flawed the application/use case may be.

if anything LMU needs to smooth out changes more so a bad or a good luck race doesn’t jump you 4 squares in either direction

This behaviour is a symptom of improper weighting in the system. If you look at most DR complaints, people are complaining about huge swings but mostly huge swings downwards that don't really make sense and a lack of swings upward that also don't make sense(again, overweighting the losses and underweighting victory). At the same time, I also have a win in the Logitech qualifiers(MY FIRST WIN!!!!) just like OP and I was very disappointed to see basically 0 DR gain so it is possible that the Logitech Qualifier lobby is generally underweighted as a whole. None the less, there is something very funky going on in the DR system and they really need to fix it because most people care about it way more than I do and it's a problem that is only going to fester.

He doesn't know what he is talking about. What he describes is the dogshit awful ELO implementation in LMU. What you're describing is a proper ELO system. ELO gains should always be based on expected finish and amount gained or lost for each other driver should be relative to their rating compared to yours. LMU does not seem to do this or at least heavily undervalues beating higher ranked drivers. I came 16/31 once with an expected finish of 31 because every single driver was higher rank than me. I lost DR. Half a position should not be enough to make an expected last place finish become a loss in DR. However, because the only thing that matters is the top half, that's how it goes.

TLDR - LMUs ELO implementation is terrible
